You know I was going to post this same exact thing, but beg people to choose batman.![]()
I was watching Toonami today when an ad caught my eye they adverised that between July 2-6 you can cast your vote on which show you want and the show that gets most votes will be aired at the 5:30 time slot. hopefully Batman will get enough votes.
what are your thoughts on this?
you can vote at toonami.com between July 2-6
You know I was going to post this same exact thing, but beg people to choose batman.![]()
You're cheap, but not as cheap as your girlfriend.
Who did you vote for last year? Can you vote? Can you read? Do you have thumbs? Show me your thumbs!!!
...No not vengance, PUNISHMENT.
That's right. Voting starts Monday. Unfortunately I'm not that enthused about it. I mean we only get to pick ONE show. ONE! That's like, one less than two, two less than three! Not enough to change the ENTIRE schedual like I want em to.

Now.
Well, I'm voting for Batman.
Well, it looks like we get to vote between Batman, Superman, Reboot, & Outlaw Star.
This is the way I see it -
Outlaw Star: I like the show, but it will be returning soon to the midnight run, so I see no reason to vote for the show. Plus Toonami's all anime right now, we need to put some diversity in there.
Superman: I love this show, however it's just finished three full runs and it deserves a break. But if Batman and/or Reboot weren't choices than I would be voting Supes.
Batman: Heavily leaning in this direction. Toonami (and CN) are in an interesting position, they have the rights to all 109 ep's and can play them in order, something that has never, never been done. Plus word is that both Bats and Supes may never return to Toonami again (though not leaving the network), add this to my theory that they'll be heading to Adult Swim along with JL. Yep, that's right, I believe that Justice League will air on Adult Swim, not Toonami.
Reboot: The only show that's keeping me from voting Batman. I'm torn here, I haven't decided yet. But it's going to come down to this or Batman. On the one hand, Reboot will be returning in the fall before season 4 airs. However, word is that if demand for Reboot is high enough CN might look in to acquiring some more of Mainframe's shows like Beast Wars (and Machines once Fox's contract runs out) Shadow Raiders (I hate the name War Planets) and the in production with Sony Heavy Gear.
So right now, for me, it's a choice between Reboot and Batman, both which I love, but I may vote Reboot on the chance that it will lead to more Mainframe productions.
Can't you vote for anime shows that haven't been aired on TV yet? Like, say, Cowboy Bebop?Originally posted by Mr. Obsession

You can't vote for series that have yet to air. Get the full skinny at another TOONZONE site, http://cnx.toonzone.net . I'm voting for Batman. Who isn't?

Well if Bebop was a choice I'd vote for that in a heart beat, but it's not and like I said OS is returning to the midnight run soon and with the block currently all anime I'd like to see a little bit of diversity in there.Originally posted by Leap Larry Jojo

I still can't decide between Batman or Reboot.
The reason why I haven't put this on the newspage is becuase I've been purposely putting it off until this weekend, where I can do a longer report on it. I plan to do a totaly Batman and/or Superman slant to it. I wanted to make this news the highlight of the weekend news, isntead of getting lost in the shuffle of the weekday news. As for Reboot....I dunno...they reran that so much awhile back the episodes seem...uninteresting anymore. I say BATMAN is the way to go. Then again, I'm a BATMAN fan so my vote is already chosen.![]()

First of all Leap Larry JoJo, If Cowboy Bebop is a choice, DO NOT! DO NOT VOTE FOR IT!! Cowboy Bebop is too good of an anime to be on 'Toonami' I protested the coming of Tenchi on Toonami.
here are my reasons
1) Cowboy Bebop is too good of an anime to go on Cartoon Network.
2) Many people spent all that money to watch Cowboy Bebop, whether it was on VHS or DVD.
3) The screwed up Tenchi when it came to Toonami. For ex. There was nudity in Tenchi, but they painted lame bathing suits on everybody. Cartoon Network cut out WHOLE SCENES of Tenchi, because they were inappropriate for smaller children. They cut out the word 'Sake' which is an alcoholic japanese beverage, and replaced the word with 'tea.' Back to the scenes, they cut out everyone's favorite scene which was 'I've got magic fingers!' Doing all of this to Tenchi, cut out the real reasons it was an anime. It took away from the actual Japanese of the show.
4) Do you really want to see Cowboy Bebop cut apart, hacked, knawed, and torn to pieces so little children can watch it???
5) Cowboy Bebop, can not be a choice because it is very new to the U.S. as Tenchi, DBZ, and Sailor Moon had been floating around for many years. the Company who owns Cowboy Bebop would not permit it to be on TV, because they are making lots of money right now with people buying it. Perhaps in a few years, after the profits go down, it will be on TV.
Do not vote for any real anime on Toonami. They change the words, cut out words, cut out scenes, edit the pictures, and edit the music to be suitable for younger children, it basically becomes a Japanese-originated Blues Clues.
Personal opinion.Originally posted by JustWhelmed

Actually, airing anime, on TV is a good thing as it gives people a chance to see if they actually like something before they start spending huge amounts of money on the VHS or DVD's. If Outlaw Star hadn't aired on CN I wouldn't have given it a second chance but now I'm collecting the DVD's. And yes I have all of Bebop, and I love it, however when I first checked it out all I had to go on was word of mouth, if I had actually seen some of it on TV I would have probably gone out and bought the entire series right away.2) Many people spent all that money to watch Cowboy Bebop, whether it was on VHS or DVD.
While seeing Bebop edited wouldn't exactly be my first choice, I would like to point out that Bandai (maybe you've heard of them, they're the company who holds the rights to Bebop) has stated that if CB is going to air anywhere they are going to make sure it's done right.3) The screwed up Tenchi when it came to Toonami. I'd also like to point out that CN isn't quite the evil destroyer of anime that you make them out to be. First, most editing of a series for television broadcast is done by the company who holds the rights to said series, not the network, for example the bathing suits in Tenchi were done by Pioneer, as was the redubbing of some of the dialog. Second, CN has much more lax standards (being a cable network) for what it can air. Consider what Fox had Bandai do to Escaflone just so Bandai could get the property on the air.
Actually, I'm going to disagree (again5) Cowboy Bebop, can not be a choice because it is very new to the U.S. as Tenchi, DBZ, and Sailor Moon had been floating around for many years. the Company who owns Cowboy Bebop would not permit it to be on TV, because they are making lots of money right now with people buying it. Perhaps in a few years, after the profits go down, it will be on TV.). By getting a show like CB on the air Bandai only stands to make money. There's the money a network pays for the rights to air a series($), as well as the exposure to a potential fanbase (which they would only have a chance of reaching a small % of, if they were only releasing VHS and DVD's) which turn around and buy the series on VHS or DVD ($$$), as well as toys ($$$$$$$), posters ($), model kits ($$), and other assorted merchandise ($$$).
Well, like the first statement this is personal opinion, I've spouted off enough of my own for the moment. Besides I responded to most what’s said in this quote earlier in this post.Do not vote for any real anime on Toonami. They change the words, cut out words, cut out scenes, edit the pictures, and edit the music to be suitable for younger children, it basically becomes a Japanese-originated Blues Clues.
Well thank you Mr. Obsession for totally harassing and criticizing my opinion.
And, as you were saying about the company making money because of people watching the show on tv....
Who's going to buy the dvd and vhs of something they can watch on tv every day? I'm not for sure.
Maybe Pioneer did edit Tenchi, but they only edited it because it was going onto Cartoon Network.
They may say its going to be 'done right' But what do they mean by that? Their going to have to edit it all up for TV. Even if it is on cable television, more people today have cable then years before, thus allowing more children to watch it.
For cable, editing is mostly up to the company that holds the rights to the series, yes, but for networks like the WB and Fox...well, they have considerable creative control over their shows. If a show is too slow, they will ask you to speed it up. If it is too 'mature' for their tastes, they will tell you to pull back. If it's anime, they will get around these silly things by just editing it to hell. We would only be so lucky if they simply edited for censorship reasons. If that were the case, very little need be edited, as is shown on Toonami.Originally posted by Mr. Obsession

That explains why the dub of Cardcaptor Sakura is less edited in Canada's Teletoon than it is on the WB.
I see no reason a broader audience shouldn't see these series. Very few mainstream audiences go out to try a DVD or VHS of an anime series they know little about. By putting it on TV, it gives potentially new viewers of a great anime series a taste of the shows, hopefully encouraging new fans.Originally posted by JustWhelmed

I would never have gotten a great interest in anime had I not seen Robotech. It was edited and changed in quite a few places, but some of the themes shined through. The characters were more realistic than the other characters I had seen on Saturday mornings. As an 8 year old, I could feel that this show was really different. They drank when they got depressed (yes, Robotech kept the alcoholism in Macross), and made fools of themselves when they did. They had to deal with deaths of good friends, and they had, well, believable lives. They had to juggle their jobs and their private lives. The interactions were unusually thoughtful and sincere. I didn't "get" everything in Robotech when I was 8, but I did know that this was something unique, something that I did not want to miss.
That set me on the road to anime and here I am. So I approve of exposing children to unique shows, even if they are editing a bit to get it on TV. Now, I don't really approve of hack and slash editing like Cardcaptors and Escaflowne, but I think every anime fan starts somewhere, and A HECK of a lot of them started on dubbed, edited anime.
Whoa, settle down there. Just because I disagree doesn't mean that I was harassing or criticizing your opinion.Originally posted by JustWhelmed

Sure there are going to be some who will watch the series on TV and that's it. But there's also the portion of the audince who (like myself) uses the TV version as a test gage to see if they'd even be interested in the series before they start paying huge amounts of money for the entire series. And, as you were saying about the company making money because of people watching the show on tv....
Who's going to buy the dvd and vhs of something they can watch on tv every day? I'm not for sure.
Also by exposing a series to as wide a market as possible the company who holds the rights to the series will make a much larger profit through the sale of related merchandise (read: toys) than they would if they only released the series on DVD and VHS (and some of the bigger companies are starting to cut out VHS).
The major point I was trying to make was that when it comes to editing, it's mostly up to the company that holds the rights as to what their willing to do to the property. All "company A" does is shop "property B" around to various networks. "Network C" says that in order to show said property some of the violence has to be toned down and the nudity has to be cut out or worked around and we'll pay you X amount of money for the rights to air the series. If the company doesn’t agree with or like the standards a network requires in order to air a series they simply take it elsewhere.Maybe Pioneer did edit Tenchi, but they only edited it because it was going onto Cartoon Network.

As for Bandai making sure that CB is edited right, I take it in the context that they will only consider letting it even air on a network if the editing will be kept to a minimum and done in such a way that the integrity of the series is kept intact.
