Different continuities. There are too many versions of Tenchi running around.

Because they are the main characters. But the story behind their meeting has been changed as well.

Heck, if you throw in Tenchi in Tokyo, you have three continuities.

    Well, I'll tell you--

--I just watched the first installment of "Tenchi in Tokyo", and noted that when compared with the previous Tenchi storyline, the animation looks a lot different (plus I thought a couple of the voices were dubbed differently too). The womens' eyes look bigger, darker, and deeper in color; their emotional reactions are more extreme (i.e. when Aiaka gets mad at Tenchi's old man), and everything seems to move at a more rapid place. Plus a couple of scenes really stuck out at me. Near the beginning Ryoko complains that Lil' Washoe's green tea upset her stomach, and she's been asleep for a while until it calms down. As she's standing outside her befroom door looking down onto the LR, the screen fills with green lines, and the others loudly demand she go back to her room. Um...did Ryoko let one fly?
Near the end Ryoko says something about making frequent nightly visits to Tenchi's room in the city through Washoe's "tunnel of love". I suspect the original undubbed Japanese dialogue was far dirtier (note how Ryoko blushes as she says this).
Also, while watching Dragonball Z. I noted a blonde character who looks and sounds a lot like Mihoshi (with a Southern accent). She's also a bit of a ditz. Separated at birth, or just the same dub actress for both?
