Toonami Fan CD
Attention Toonami fans. I am making a Toonami fan CD.
I AM NOT GOING TO SELL THIS FOR PROFIT OR ANY OTHER REASON; IT WILL BE A FREE CD HOSTED SOMEWHERE ON THE WEB. JOE BOYD VIGIL AND DJ CLARKNOVA ROCK, AND WILL RECIEVE CREDIT ON THE TRACKS THEY WORKED ON. IF THIS IS ILLEGAL, I WILL CEISE AND DESIST IMMEDIATLY.
The content will be 'clean', 'fixed', and extended tracks from Black Hole Megamix, as well as extended promo tracks/intros.
Clean and fixed mean that I have taken out the dialogue (BHM) and sped them up and changed the tempo if needed.
I currently have FINISHED mixing the following tracks. Please look on Toonami Arsenal and Youtube to hear them in their original format in recorded Toonami videos.
Black Hole Megamix:
Track 4 (From the Tom3 Yu Yu Hakusho intro)
Track 19 (From the Tom3 DBZ Kid Buu intro)
Promo/Misc. Intros:
Ignition (From the Tom 1 DBZ Freeza intro; not the first track on Deep Space Bass despite the same name)
Chill (From the Tom2 second Reboot intro)
Fuzz Rock (I feel stupid because I forget where this is from, and the fact that I heard it a few hours ago in a Toonami Youtube video)
At this time, I do not plan to do any tracks from the Deep Space Bass CD. However, I believe there is a different version of Arabic than the one included on DSB. ANY MUSIC DIFFERENT FROM OR NOT INCLUDED ON DEEP SPACE BASS AND BLACK HOLE MEGAMIX WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Here are the promo/intro tracks I have at the moment. Every other track I have are from Deep Space Bass and Black Hole Megamix:
1st Gundam Closing Theme
8thTeam60
0080Killaz60
Alien
ApeEscape
BandaiGundam
Classic
Crusher
DarkKnight
Deeper
EpicReturn
Evil
Expatriots
HashBrowns
Heavy
IntruderPromo
JoesHouse
Organic
Prayer
Rise Up
SineOff
Spectre
ToonamiTrailer
TurnSignal
I plan on doing an extended version of either Spectre or Rise Up next. Chances are I will not release any of the tracks until the CD is complete, however if things go the way of the Do-Do, I will distribute them as-is. A compilation CD would be good as well; anyone wishing to send in their own extended/fixed tracks to me is free to do so, and you will receive full credit on the project. I am hoping to do at least 7 tracks or so, and I'm not sure if I can do it all by myself.
I will NOT ACCEPT the following:
Remixes of tracks. (Not until the fan CD is done at least.)
Tracks not done by Joe Boyd Vigil.
Rips/Audio recordings of Toonami promo/intro videos. I need tracks that are as clean to work with as possible; Goku blasting Dr. Gero and him screaming while the track is playing isn't going to help me.
I don't have a specific release date or month. I am going to try and do as many tracks as possible before my next college semester starts up again. (About 2 weeks from this post date) I've also asked my girlfriend to see if she can make a CD cover type thing, so I'll see how that turns out.
Other than all that, please help if you can and enjoy the finished products when they come out. I look forward to feedback on this post.
Later.

This is intriguing. So many questions to ask...
And, there is a different version of Arabic out there. On my hard drive, to be more exact.

Project isn't dead; I just got addicted to Team Fortress 2 over the break. Anyway, I extended the good version of Arabic to a little over 1:30. I found Strings (Space promo) and Scratch My Back (Moltar DBZ intro) by using time travel. I suppose I'll do them next, along with track 17 and 20 from Black Hole Megamix. What sucks is that I REALLY wanted to do track 7 from BHM, but because of the sound effects/voice clip in the intro, the intro would be non-existant. So I decided to abandon that one. ><
I'm thinking of putting in voice clips BEFORE the tracks, though. For example, I would have a clip of Tom1 saying 'Here comes the battle royal' before Arabic starts up. I'm just curious as to if anyone wants that or not.
Sorry about the delay; blame me and the horribly addictive Spy class in TF2. Don't worry though, the project isn't dead.

That'd be fine by me - so long as either (a) it doesn't overlap the actual music, or (b) both clean and voiced versions were made available. But, then, it's your project and I'm just excited to hear the results!

It won't go over into the music at all. The whole issue of dialogue in the Blackhole Mega Mix CD is why I started this whole project in the first place. If anyone has any suggestions for dialogue at the start of the tracks, feel free to suggest. My only restriction is that the dialogue be relevant to the track. (Don't say a Sailor Moon quote for a track that came before DBZ; you get the idea.)
Current list:
Black Hole Megamix:
Track 4 (From the Tom3 Yu Yu Hakusho Season 1 intro)
Track 19 (From the Tom3 DBZ Kid Buu intro)
Promo/Misc. Intros:
Ignition a.k.a. 2nd Coming (From the Tom 1 DBZ Freeza intro/Reboot Season 4 intro)
Chill (From the Tom2 second Reboot intro)
Fuzz Rock (I still can't remember, lol T_T)
Arabic (From the Tom1 DBZ intro)
I like the idea of having the Tom1 battle royale thing at the start of Arabic. For Track 4, I was thinking of having Yusuke yell "SHOTGUN!!!" at the start of it, and for Ignition I was thinking about the Namekian Dragon say "It shall be done." That or perhaps the classic "Kids love it!" Toonami thing. So feel free to submit your ideas. This little album may be made by me, but it's really for all us Toonami fans. (Dear god that was corny.) Of course if people just want the tracks alone, I'll leave em' that way. It's up to you fans, really.

Sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier... I guess I got caught up in some things and didn't feel I could deliver a critique.
While it's good to know you're making process, I would like to make one correction: the song you sent me, the one you called "Ignition", is actually called "Second Coming"... where'd the name "Ignition" come from?
As for the track itself: yeah, you extended it, but as it is I'd prefer the original. It sounds choppy around :07 when you insert the sound from the end of the song and then commence the beat. I like the way you tried to extend the bridge (:28-0:38 in the original), but it doesn't come off as cohesive. It's a bit rough, all in all. I don't think there's anything you could do for that song aside from recomposing it, ā la Deep Space Bass' remixes... and I don't know if JBV himself could do it.
Well, I know he wouldn't at this point, but I don't know if he could, because he doesn't have the masters.

Yeah. My least favorite thing about it is the damn ringing sound that plays throughout; I freaking hate it but there's not a way to reduce it. It comes with all mp3s for 2nd Coming, so I have to deal with it. On some tracks the cutting really shows (Chill on the very intro) and on some I can't tell the difference (4 and 19 from Blackhole Mega Mix). I think I'm going to redo Arabic; I cut it so the tempo was up, but it sounds kind of bland to me as a result, as it's lost it's signature stop-start tempo.
The thing that sucks the most is that there's such little source material to work with. I don't mean that there are a few files, but that about 80% of the beats sound good as is. I wanted to do Heavy and Classic A LOT, but Heavy sounds excellent, and Classic was going to be a nightmare to do. I thought about having Classic lead into BHM #3 (which uses the same beat oddly enough; and you can hear it in a OOOOLLLLLDDDD Reboot promo) or vice versa, but I couldn't string them together properly.
BHM is definently easier to work with, as on a lot of tracks they're already pretty long and can be restored with sampling from within the track. What that means is that I just look for part of the beat that doesn't have dialogue in it, copy it, then replace the 'bad part' with the 'good part'. On BHM#4, I had to account for audio distortion in Youtube vids (BHM#4 is slowed down from it's actual Toonami appearance), and so while it's not as high pitched as the ad, it's probably closer to what was actually on TV. The problem with BHM is, to be quite upfront, a lot of the tracks feel uninteresting. So I have to be selective. If I can't remember where it's from, it gets the axe, because it probably means it wasn't all that important in Toonami history. If someone can tell me otherwise, feel free to, but I can't recall a lot of them being played for the life of me.
All this being said, I'm also thinking about having a 'source package' as a companion to the CD; that way people can listen to the original audio (the files as I got them) and what I and possibly other people had done to change them up a bit or get rid of the dialogue with the CD package.
This whole thing is coming from a college student who's doing all this in his spare time and by himself, so don't expect a completly professional job on all this. And please, no one send me those god-awful files from around 2005 or so. I found them after some searching, and they literally sound like they were recorded by someone using a computer mic. T_T It really upsets me, because a couple were good beats.
Sorry if it's a long and sometimes rambling post, but I just wanted to give all insight into how I do the tracks and select them. Hopefully a few of you might contribute to the CD maybe...? Anyway, back to playing some RE4 for me. ^^;

THE ALBUM IS 85% COMPLETE.
I finished inserting quotes from Toonami shows before the tracks. I'm just going to fine-tune the tracklist, and perhaps add another track or two. The total running time is about 16 minutes long. (lol, you're getting it for free so no complaining. >.>
Here is the current tracklist, although it's not in order.
Arabic (Extended)
Chill (Extended)
East (Formerly BHM #4; cleaned up and extended)
Exquisite (Formerly BHM #20; cleaned up and extended)
Fuzz Rock (Extended)
Scratch My Back (Extended)
Second Coming (Extended)
Strings (Extended)
BHM # 19 (Yet to be named; cleaned up and extended)
Here is the album artwork, as made by my girlfriend. ^^

Hopefully I'll have it ready for release on Sunday or Monday U.S. time. Just be a little bit more patient people. And if anyone can host it, that would be great. Rapidshare would be a pain, methinks.

That is some hot cover art.
And, I can't wait to hear what you've concocted.
-
All done. The release date will be within the next hour or two, so stay tuned. ^^

This is really cool stuff . I'm glad they are still Toonami fans who care enough to do this these types of projects. Hope everything goes well with it.

The way you put the tracks together, I really get the old-school Toonami vibes. It's kind of eerie, yet pleasantly nostalgic.
Thanks for your work, DJ Calus!
EDIT: IT'S SUCH A GREAT WORK!!!

I was listening to it over dinner. I couldn't stop raving....... Over how awesome and excellent the selections are.
This doesn't have anything to do about the music but I have an idea for a detective movie and I really want use this as BGM, Can I use it Calus?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm glad you liked it. I was getting a little freaked out because no one had said anything about it for a while. X.x;
And AsphaultViking, as far as I can say, feel free to use it. Just remember to give Joe Boyd Vigil and me credit if ya' can.
One of my exs is offering to host the album on her server, so I'll post it if/when it happens. ^^

Awesome, simply awesome. It's great to finally hear some of my favorite tracks extended, and it was great idea to put the quotes at the beginning.
Excellent job, thanks for putting so much effort into this, it's appreciated.

I decided to bump this cause.
