    Episode 40
Japanesse title: "A Duel in The Rain"
English title: "A Duel In The Rain"

Inui brought out another version of Penal-Tea for everyone to partake in, but when the regulars fniished without taking any drink he and the coach decided to throw them into endurance matches against each other. Now Ryoma and Fuji are playing, and other matches are about to start.

The matches continue with Ryoma versus Fuji being the main spotlight, but when rain begins it's revealed anyone can win. Which matches will finish, and which ones will be postponed?

Ryoma Echizen (Age: 12): A Japanese kid who grew up in America, Ryoma is a top Junior Player, and the son of former top pro Nanjiro Echizen. Although he appears very cocky, he has the skills to back everything up. Though a natural lefty, he can play Tennis with both hands. He is a 7th grader at Seigaku. His signature shot is the Kick Serve (Twist Serve), and he also posses a One-Foot Split Step. Now he's a regular, but in order to become the best Ryoma still has a few tricks waiting for his opposition.

Takeshi Momoshiro (Age: 13): Momoshiro is a dangerous opponent when it comes to his height and power skills, but he is slowly learning the new skills of doubles. His long reach though causes opponents to fear him as he appears to have no weak spots.

Kaoru Kaidoh (Age: 13): Kaidoh is famous for his snake shot, but he gets frustrated easily when someone thinks they are better. Kaidoh recently revealed he'd mastered the Boomerang Snake, but without a trustworthy opponent Kaidoh can't exhibit his best skills.

Kunimitsu Tezuka (Age: 14): Tezuka is the captain of Seigaku, and he has crushed Ryoma in a pervious match, but he also says that he is ready to defeat opponents at all costs. While hes ready to get on the court, Tezuka learns he's trained everyone too well as they always wrap up the matches before it's his turn.

Shuichiro Oishi (Age: 14): He's the Vice-Captain and a doubles man for Seigaku, and it's for a good reason. Oishi is always great when it comes to thinking about various skills, and he knows that Seigaku has what it takes to go all the way.

Shusuke Fuji (Age: 14): Fuji has a carefree attirude, but he also is ruthless when it comes to singles matches. Shusuke has revealed one of his three special attacks so far, but his ability to have no weak spot wears his opponents out.

Eiji Kikumaru (Age: 14): Eiji is one of the famous doubles players for Seigaku, and most people wonder how he can communicate so well, but Eiji is always ready for a challenge, if one should ever present itself. After losing an endurance match, Eiji has committed to never lose again, but can he actually fulfill this goal?

Takashi Kawamura: Taka appears to be a humble man that wouldn't be very good at tennis, but once a racket is put in his hands he explodes and becomes ruthless. By never knowing what dangerous hadoukyuu he wll use, Taka becomes one of the most feared competitors on Seigaku's starting squad.

Sadaharu Inui: He was one of Seigaku's originals until Ryoma defeated him, but now Inui has taken up a spot as an assistant coach. Inui realizes that his data tennis is strong, but his coaching has turned Seigaku into an unpredictable squad that does nothing according to others data. Stay away from Inui's special teas though. While he thinks they are delicious, everyone else thinks they are less desireable.

Satoshi Horio, Kachiro Kato, and Katsuo Mizuno: Despite their resemblance to the three stooges, these three are loyal first years at Seigaku, and they hope to rise in the regukar ranks soon. Horio brings two years of experience to the squad while the others are barely beginning, but so far they must do all the utility work.

Masashi Arai: Arai may not be a Seigaku starter, but he was one of the main men who discovered Ryoma's strength when ryoma first arrived. Since then he has been reduced the role of a ball boy and a fan, but Arai is always ready to stand up for his teammates and prove he's a good player.

These match-ups had great potential in them. I really wish they would come back and have them in the next team qualification bracket. It shows how even Seigaku's players are, and it truly shows how good Ryoma is, playing even with Fuji.

Of course I do wish we got to see a little of how Momo and Tezuka went, but they like keeping Tezuka's true strength hidden.

Ah, one of Fuji's major flaws. I love him and everything, but he seriously has the cheapest moves. They couldn't come up with anything better than...having him magically return balls through wind and blue lights? Yeah. Lame.

    Oh well.

Man this episode was awesome. But I really have to wonder... what's up with the montage at the end of the episode? We've already seen it twice (once comlpetely and once partially).

The montage at the end is the conclusion in the Japanesse version. Viz Media appears to be trying to include everything without replacing their introduction and conclusion.

    Just watched this episode.
Uhm. This might be weird but I can see with Fuji where fangirls get all their slash at.
