MÄR: "Team MÄR On The Ropes" Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!

    Episode 33
Japanesse title: "What Became Of Jack! What to Do Dorothy!!"
English title: "Team MÄR on the Ropes!"

On the last MÄR, Alviss decided to go first to show what new powers the training gate had provided him. Alvis remained ever vigilant and easily defeated his opponent, but Rapunzel revealed no mercy would be shown and slew her comrade.

Today: Not one but two matches highlight the day as Jack and Dorothy are ready to fight, but Jack has a bit of a problem with ice, and Dorothy may not be very nice. The fourth round continues, but who will have the lead after three matches?

    Meet Team MÄR:

Ginta- This fun loving, free caring boy always dreamed of a video game, and one day his wish came true. He was taken to the game world he's nwo in, but exactly why did Ginta have those dreams in the first place? One thing's for sure- he's making the best in MÄR- Heaven with increased strength and perfect eye vision, but is there something more for him in this world?

Babbo- This is the only ÄRM in MÄR-Heaven with the ability to talk, but after an unusually long slumber, Babbo lost all his memories. After awakening, he wasn't too pleased to see Ginta, but eventually he realized that Ginta was a true friend and decided to go with him. Now Babbo protects the world, all the time pointing out that he's a gentleman and you'd better not touch his moustache, but an unknown person has put out a handsome reward for anyone who will capture him.

Dorothy- This witch has mysterious powers, and she has a great desire to collect legendary ÄRM's, but Babbo was too heavy for her, so she gave him to Ginta. Before she left the two travelers, she hinted she might see them again, but is that a pro,ise or a threat?

Jack- This young man encountered Ginta after thinking he was a vegetable eating werewolf, but with Ginta and Babbo around, Jack realized he had an inner strength and was now the man of the house. With a little help from Ginta and Babbo, Jack was able to dispose of the Roglou with his battle shovel, and his mom gave him permission to join the two adventurers on their travels, but will Jack serve as an ally or a hinderance?

Alviss- This mysterious man seems to be watching over Ginta for some unknown reason, and he also seems to know the secrets of Babbo. When he finds out Babbo has been released, he challenges Ginta to a match, but he also threatens Babbo's very exsistence. Can our heroes find out if there's more to Alviss than meets the eye?

Alan- He's a member who fought in the first great war, but he got unlucky and is now trapped inside the dog Edward until Edward sleeps three times. Alan has the power of various training gates, but he is also super strong and is ready to do battle at all times. If he goes to sleep once though, then Edward will re-emerge.

Snow- The princess of Lestava, but this princess has some mad fighting skills and a personal agenda against the Chess Pieces. How does she know the Chess Pieces, and why she hates them is anyone's guess, but she's one you'll surely want to learn more about.

Nanashi- This man joined the MÄR warriors after he learned they weren't part of the Chess Pieces army. He asked them to help him get revenge for the fallen comrades of the Thieves Guild. Does he have anything special planned though?

Meet the Chess Piece Knights and Queen:

Phantom- He's the commander in chief of the Chess Pieces, and he is always wanting entertainment. Originally he controlled Babbo, and he appears to be unkillable. While Phatom thinks he is the highest ranking official though, he is actually being deceived.

Peta- He's the strategic brains behind the Chess Pieces, and he is the first hand man to Phantom after he swore allegiance for unknown reasons. He may not participate in the War Ganes that often, but when he does, you know something big is about to occur.

Halloween- He's the second strongest knight behind Phantom, and he's the archenemy of Alan after he finished tied with him in the last War games. Little does Halloween know though that his desire to crush everyone could lead to his ultimate downfall.

Rolan- At first apperance Rolan appears to be a girly type man, but he's actually one of the stronger knights, and his zombie tatto will give anyone a run for their money, as Alviss is about to discover.

Ian- He may have startted as a Pawn, but Ian has slowly worked his way up the ranks, and now he has one mission, to defeat Ginta at all costs, that is if he manages to survive the training chamber he's currently in.

Chimera- Not much is known about this knight, but this person is one of the six stongest knights, and they use the forbidden Ghost ARM.

Vidar- He is known for having a tree grown from his head, but the tree only distracts people from the true powers this Chess Piece knight contains.

Rapunzel- If ever someone needed to let down there hair, it wasn't this Chess Piece. She is the big sister of Girom, and she has a natural compatibility for ICE weapons, meaning she'll probably become Snow's main rival.

Ash- Don't confuse this Chess Piece knight as the Grim Reaper, though that's what his intent is. He loves to confuse children with his mask, but his purpose may shock you when yuo learn what it is.

Candice- Not much is known about this Chess Piece knight, but she loves Phantom and seems to be willing to fight for him at all costs.

Galian- This Chess Piece knight seems to know everything about Nanashi, and a secret tie to the Thieve's Guild is connected to him, but what is his true purpose?

Kouga- This Chess Piece Knight has an immense displeasure for anyone he believes is handsome, but what other powers does he hold?

Pinnochio- You don't want to face this doll when he lies, and you'll see why when he obtains the rank of knight and gets into the War Games.

Magical Lou- This clown has a tie to Snow's childhood, but exactly why is he keeping an eye on Snow in the War Games? What are his true intentions?

Diana- She's the Queen of the Chess Pieces and a dangerous user when it comes to keeping an eye out for danger, but she has a secret desire when it comes to Snow and Dorothy. Exactly what are her intentions?

    Other noticeable characters:

Koyuki- She's Ginta's friend from back home, but she also has a connection to Ginta and Snow allowing her to see the various events that are transpiring and keep Ginta's mom and friends informed of the events.

Belle- This tiny fairy follows Alviss every where, but while she doesn't have any fighting skills, she's good when it comes to spying on others.

Edward- This canine serves as the guardian for Snow, and he always worries about her well being. A curse had trapped him and Alan together, but now he's back as the full-time watch dog. Can he avoid Snow's charm though to keep her out of trouble?

Pozun- This demon doesn't seem to have any special talents, but he does serve as the judge for the War Games and is a devout member of the Chess Pieces.

Gaira- This man parrticipated in the previous War Games and is now training Team MAR in the ways of The Cross Guard with his patented training gate. Gaira possesses immense skills and is always ready to provide guidance where it's needed.

It was cool seeing Jack finally use his mind a bit, and Dorothy shows us she can be a nice person when she chooses to be during fights. At the same time I expected Dorothy's fight to go on a bit longer. I will say I'm glad that Rapunzel isn't my team captain though. Not only does she look like an ugly hag, but she kills anyone who doesn't meet her expectations. Team MÄR finds themselves up now though 3-0, so as long as Ginta wins his match, they'll advance no matter what. Nanashi gets to take his turn next time though.

They crammed the whole Dorothy VS Rapuntzel fight in half an episode? I could swear it lasted two chapters in the manga...and that Nanashi's fight came BEFORE Rapuntzel... or did Dorothy have to face someone first??

Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler. This round Team MÄR has six matches but with only five fighters (Alan and Snow aren't with them). One of them has to fight twice. The order goes like so:
    Alviss
    Jack
    Dorothy
Nanashi (made clear in the next time promo at the end of the episode)
Ginta (this is obvious since they each have to fight once before a person can go a second time)
    Spoiler:
    vs. Giran

    Spoiler:
    Dorothy vs. Rapunzel

I don't think knowing who's fighting who is a big deal. For example, if in a Naruto thread, someone said that Sasuke was going to fight Naruto in a future episode, would that ruin the fight for me? Heck, no! That'd get me pumped up and salivating, if anything.

Revealing HOW they fought, or who won and lost... Now THOSE are spoilers!

Never mess with Dorothy. Eee . . . One hit and down.

Jack's fight had a bit more substance to it, though, so I kinda prefer it to Dorothy's. Is it just me or did Jack start sounding like Steve Blum in places during that fight (I know he's voiced by someone else, just saying . . . )?

A one-hit victory with a weak weapon is lame. Jack's fight, however, was interesting. He proved to be a true monkey.

Oh gosh having a huge plant grow out of your mouth and throughout your innards has got to feel awful beyond words. Nice going Jack. You're pretty diabolical all things considered.

Lol at Dorothy's "well I didn't kill him but I might as well have" attack.

I was hoping Dorothy would fight Aqua though. Eh... I guess it's more entertaining with Nanashi taking care of that one.

Well, I guess the cards have no power, then. What was the point of him having them?

To predict the outcome, and for show.

Besides, Dorothy has set the record for the Shortest Fight in the History of The War Games. Still, it kinda remiinded me of a fight I once saw on Zoids: New Century Zero, when the Zaber Fangs' Combat Systems froze up because of the Judge calling them the "Fuzzy Pandas Team!" The Blitz Team won before the fight even began!

    Personally, I like the anime of MAR better, but in the manga, Dorothy's fight was more realistic because of, well, blood. -_-;

Anyway, I like Nanashi's fight with Aqua, one of my favorites, actually. I never thoguht about what I fight between Dorothy and Aqua might looks like in the end. IF you watch the figth, I think you'll see that Nanashi fighting Aqua was the most logical choice in the way things turn out in the end.

Why is Aqua part of Chess? She is far too cutesy to be a bad girl, although she could be a "don't judge the book by its cover" type.

I guess Team MAR doesn't know about the dead man's hand, or they would of fear that ace card.

The Chess Pieces have had plenty of soldiers that fit this criteria earlier on in the series, so it's not surprising.
