When things were new 5 days a week they'd run through the episodes in a month, and then air reruns for the next 11 months. Now we get premieres year round, just with a week long wait. I prefer it this way.

Not to mention that the ratings were dropping fast for weekday Toonami. Not just boys, but girls as well. Since boys were starting to lose interest and girls weren't watching at all, CN created Miguzi to bring in both age groups in an effort to counteract Nick's Slime Time Live and whatever Disney Channel has at the same time period.

Nowadays, Toonami is the home for roughly 90% of Cartoon Network's action premieres, which is fine by me.

Yes Toonami is better suited for prime time as there's something not right about airing say... TV-PG-V Naruto at 5PM on weekdays. Though the rest of Toonami is pretty much Miguzi fodder at this point.

What is a drag about once a week Toonami is that very few Toonami shows get a shot on weekdays. Currently only Naruto does. Zatch and One Piece couldn't keep their slots on Miguzi because they didn't perform as well with 6-11 as some shows and also because Miguzi has it's own shows to air now. And Bo-Bobo hasn't and may never get a shot on weekdays. It's nice to have Toonami be the only home for some good shows but long shonens don't fair well with just one slot a week. It's amazing Zatch, Bo-Bobo and One Piece can keep it up without any other exposure and little to no advertisement.

That being said I don't expect CN to ever give Toonami back time on weekdays. Toonami is the premiere block brand and now we have Jetstream for the rest of the week. But I'm still pushing for a venue for Toonami shows to be rerun at a decent time. While it would surely mean overairing the reruns of Naruto, Zatch Bell, One Piece, Teen Titans, etc. a Toonami channel would be good for giving the Toonami reruns the exposure they deserve and even give Jetstream shows a better shot at Toonami proper including our old favs Jack and Megas and the ill fated Toonami original IGPX.

But hey I'm all for CN giving 9-10:30PM to Toonami on weekdays. I think that'd be great. But XS is doing too well at 9:30PM to fork over the time slot and in general the put Naruto before the rest of Toonami's good anime for reason that I've yet to fully understand... so by putting Naruto last on weekdays they are basically saying... that's all you get, now like it. We're more likely to see Ben 10 take 9PM this Fall then say Zatch Bell or One Piece.

Then again, in it's current state Toonami's schedule is nothing to write home about. So the "best" show is getting the exposure it needs and really only Bo-Bobo and Zatch Bell feel out in the cold. More of 4kids garbage is the last thing we need on CN so while it pains me that it's on Toonami at least it's only on Saturday and the rest of the week is clean of those two abominations (Chronic and Once Piece I mean).

So really until they use the time they have better, there's little reason to bother with a weekday block.

But I think they'd have a ratings winner (though they might get flack for PG-V every weekday this early) with this line-up.

05:00 - Teen Titans (it still gets ratings)
    05:30 - Zatch Bell
    06:00 - Naruto
    06:30 - Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo

If One Piece picks up steam again it could replace Teen Titans.

Because Toonami's ratings were plummeting and moving it to Saturdays revived it.

Having Anime show only premeire once a week may seem annoying if your used to the way Weekday Toonami premiered eps, but we were pretty much spoiled back then compared to how they aired in Japan and how shows like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh only premiered once a week when they were on KidsWB. Another big difference between the Anime airing on Toonami back then compared to now is that those shows had their run in Japan years ago, but now Toonami is airing Anime shows that are dubbed at least just 3 years since they premiered in Japan!

I sort of like the once a week premieres. If it were weekdays, we probably would've seen two 30-40 episode seasons of Bobobo, and that wait would've been excruciating just like between DBZ seasons. My classmates would say "It's not starting again til SEPTEMBER?!"

In that respect you're certainly right. I too prefer the weekly premieres because it almost guarantees the block is fresh and the show's don't become stale and force fed through reruns (though one could question the freshness of a block that double strips a majority of it's shows...but I digress).

That being said, I still wouldn't mind an hour elsewhere on CN where they could simply replay some of the shows. I know they slip Naruto and One Piece in and out of the 10pm Monday - Thursday slot; but how would Bobobo fair there? Some series are just hard to follow when they're on weekly without any reruns. Series that build of prior episodes such as (well this is reaching a tad bit into the past) SEED or even IGPX, might have benefited from airing or re-airing weekly; rather then just hoping and assuming viewers were willing to get into a serial story without fully comprehending it or missing certain parts of the puzzle.

I wouldn't say a majority. Pokemon Chronicles and Naruto are the only shows to hold a double-strip showing. Zatch Bell and One Piece have had them on occasion, either due to wanting to get a quick set of premieres out of the way, or the block doing so well, or setting them off for going to a new time. But no other show has held a double showing. Besides, what else is there left to show anyway? Toonami's not interested on showing things that don't get ratings anymore. Duel Masters failed, IGPX failed (and ended), JLU ended, and most of the other stuff would better fit the midnight slot (DBZ) or the early weekday slot (Cybertron). Besides with FF and some big specials coming this fall the double slots shoudln't matter too much.
Instead of just using this new signature to celebrate a thousand more post, let me list of all the great things you can expect of me on this board for 2012:

...... The same talkbacks you saw me do last year but with new episodes.

.... What are you doing still reading this? Move to the next post already! .

Yeah one thing I noticed compared to the old days when Toonami was on weekdays is that CN is much more strict about ratings now. Shows weren't dropped from a weekday run as quickly, and hardly any Toonami series weren't cancelled before they ended. Now if a series doesn't get a certain amount of ratings for just a few weeks, it's history! I remember One Piece's 1st shot at a weekday run ended after only like 2 weeks.

I think the reason for this may be that Toonami use to air mostly reruns and because of that it was a lot cheaper. Naruto for instance was incredibly expensive for a licensed show IIRC. New content is almost always harder to pay off than oldies but oldies don't get the ratings they want (or so they believe). But Toonami started picking up more and more new shows and when they failed they were taken off for sure. Some were lucky enough to get a second shot though. Even so CN's who mentality with ratings is quite bothersome. They are much more willing to shaft something these days then years ago. And it's hurting Toonami as well of course.

It also probably has to do with CN wanting to compete with Nickelodeon and Disney more than they did back then, especially since Toonami is a Saturday Primetime Block that has to compete with TeeNick.

It'll go back to weekdays someday. They can't treat the CN viewers like this. Now would be perfect in my mind with all of these long series.
