I would have to say that Outlaw Star and Big O would be my favorites.
Well, we all knew that 2001, Toonami went into a somewhat of a decline. Fans were upset and interest waned. People blame Williams Street, however, I think one of the reasons it's been a rough year was because of all the restructuring at Turner. Obviously, there was an executive shake-up at the network. The Kids' WB! and Cartoon Network were now considered "sister" networks. The third hour was gotten rid of, Rising Sun was cancelled, the DBZ overrun, and Kids' WB! began its own Toonami block.
However, we all the negatively surrounding Toonami in recent months, I'd like to know what you guys like about Toonami. Instead of being negative, tell me what you like about Toonami. If you guys don't have anything positive to contribute to this thread, then don't. We have other threads open already which deal with how to improve the block.
The following is a list of what I liked in the year 2001 on Toonami. Of course, you guys can add shows currently on the block and whatever else you like about Toonami.
- ReBoot 4.0 - one of the best Toonami shows, got even better
- Zoids
- Outlaw Star
- Big O
- Batman Beyond
- Williams Street's dedication to its fans - because w/o WS, we wouldn't have Toonami in the first place.
Despite the fact that things haven't been great, I think 2002 will be the best year yet. I'd like to thank Cartoon Network and Williams Street for giving us Toonami. They cared, when others didn't. Thank you!![]()
Later.
I would have to say that Outlaw Star and Big O would be my favorites.
Besides what he said,
DBZ Season 5, the best season yet.
Mad Rhetoric (and the other videos, but especially Mad Rhetoric)
A Midnight Run exclusive, as well as being more experimental with the Midnight Run
Promos for every single Reboot Season 4 episode
Showing the Sailor Moon movies
Midnight Run Special Edition
A much improved interactive element in this year's "total immersion event".
Power to the People, where else can you vote for what series will air?
The Mobile Suit Gundam intro
A much improved New Year's Evil
The sudden addition of Zoids out of nowhere
The new intro for the Toonami block.
Making CardCaptors look good.
Those new DBZ promos.
Finally, continuing to put out a great product even with a resource strain and higher ups meddling with your stuff.
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot this one, Deep Space Bass!
The thing I like about Toonami is that they air stuff that other networks won't touch with a 20-foot pole. NBC, FOX, ABC, etc. would have NEVER picked up shows like Gundam, Outlaw Star, or Big O. Come to think of it, I think one of the major networks did used to have DBZ but then cancelled it (I bet they're kicking themselves for that one). Even when FOX picked-up the Toonami-esque show, Escaflowne, they cancelled it before giving it a full run. Plus, Toonami stays as true as it can to the anime it gets. They NEVER alter music or chop out scenes without good reason. ALL of the other major networks seriously butcher the anime it gets. The other networks NEVER would allow un-edited Gundam Wing to air, like CN and Toonami did. Heck, I don't think even CN would have done that if it weren’t for Toonami and the Williams Street crew.People say that Toonami has been going down-hill lately. I say, look at the other networks and count yor blessings.
So, IMO Toonami is still, and will always be, the best place for action cartoons.![]()
Not really :P Outlaw Star and Big O were butchered with plenty of cuts that made no sense whatever (editing out Merry Christmas in Big O, changing 'woman' to 'lady' in Outlaw Star, etc...) This is about whats good on Toonami though so I'll shut up about this subject.
What do I like?
-It shows more respect to anime than any other block/channel on TV.
-Its run by guys like us, fans of the shows, not just heartless network executives who could care less about the shows as long as they get the adequete neilson ratings.
-Big O. Outlaw Star. Gundam. Tenchi. Need I say more?
-That July thing were the fans got to pick the show was quit nice too.
The Lone Gunmen. Harsh Realm. John Doe. Firefly. Boston Public. Wonderfalls. And now MadTV. FOX must DIE!!!!!!
Ditto to what ohmrbill said. Toonami goes where all other networks don't; it's hard to find good action animation outside of Toonami. And when all these great shows are packed together back to back, it makes it all the sweeter.
And stuff like the Absolution and TMR:SE are icing on the cake. Great content and great (if somewhat stale as of late) presentation.
To butcher PBS' motto, "If Toonami doesn't show it, who will?"
If greedy Exec have it they're way (as if they don't already) EB will, the KWB's toonami is just the beginning people.
Seriously though, I always enjoy toonami, where can we see Tenchi and DBZ,huh? Nowhere
You may not like me, but I already hate you ~Me
What do I like about Toonami? Not much.
I dont even watch the block anymore. Combine the halt of Gundam Wing and my lack of time to get into 08th Team or whatever its called with the heartbreak of Dragonball Z's betrayal of a lifetime (changing voice actors and not cleaning up the animation), I really dont care much for the block. I loved the old DBZs too much. Thats my problem, so I only watch Adult Swim on CN now.
Well, if you read my entire message, you would have saw that I said, "If you guys don't have anything positive to contribute to this thread, then don't." This thread was to speak about the positives of the block. We already have threads open about how to improve the block.Originally posted by Skiptastic

Not trying to be mean at all, but I'm try to avoid the negatively regarding Toonami. I, too, have lost interest in Toonami, but I think if we look at some of the positives of the block, we'd see how fortunate we are that we have it. Every other network has gone to hell as of late.

It great to be seeing Tenchi, and hopefully Yu Yu Hakusho should be on sometime during spring or fall (I hope to god that Funi doesn't mess this one up).

WQell, most of what I like has already been mentioned, but I got a few things to add to the list;
Fan art-I have never seen anyone anywhere actually show the fan art, and alot of it is very, very good
Little things in the website that let you know what the creators think, like their opinion of DBZ being overrun
Contacting the fans-most shows or blocks would never tell you when something is going to change, or drop subtle, almost anarchist, hints in their bumpers, trailers and speaches
