Last week, we had some insane Demon Fox action, mirror breaking, and the bad luck of being asked to kill someone! Also, Kakashi is getting a brand new Lightning Blade ready to rumble like the thunder itself! (pun intended)

How will Viz handle the fact that Haku has a 50% chance of dying this week? Also, we've got odds of 40% on Zabusa's survival via an attack with a Lightning Blade weilded by Kakashi, whilst Sakura just looks on doing nothing but comic relief with her inner self! Key Characters for this arc:
Naruto Uzumaki: The Number One Knucklehead Ninja, the misfit of the group, his Shadow Clone Jutsu is his specality. At birth, the evil fox demon Kyuubi got sealed inside him, and he can tap into his energy for extra power in the right situations. He is a loudmouth, sometimes happy-go-lucky, and his favorite line: Beleive It! But is he good? Beleive it!

Sasuke Uchiha: The last survivor of the Uchiha Clan, the clan which held the legendary Sharingan Eye, Sasuke is an avenger who seeks to destroy a certain man. He's the top student from Naruto's class, and he immagines himself as above all of his peers. In truth, he is. He is Naruto's rival, and managed to get the first leg up in their rivalry with his quick acting against the Demon Brothers. Sasuke is surprised to learn that Kakashi has a Sharingan in his left eye. Together with Naruto, he helped carry out the plan to free Kakashi. He also managed to take out ten of Zabuza's Water Clones. His special technique is Fire Style, Fireball Jutsu.

Sakura Haruno: Another member of Naruto's team, she has the best Chakra control, but her field skills aren't very good. She likes reading books. Sometimes she lets it off steam via Inner Sakura, a visual metaphor of the things she is afraid to say! She has a crush on Sauske...

Kakashi Hatake: A jounin, Kakashi has never passed a team of genin before. Almost all of his friends are dead. He places a heavy emphasis on teamwork, and believes those who abandon their friends are worse then scum. He is well known amongst both allies and enemies as the "Copy Ninja", and he has a Sharingan in his left eye, which he normally keeps concealed. Kakashi has great faith in his subordinates. Other than his Sharingan, his powerful attack is his Lightning Blade Jutsu, which he uses in this week's episode!

Zabuza Momochi: Known as 'The Demon of the Mist', Zabuza has been sent to take care of Tazuna. Zabuza is a rouge ninja from the Village Hidden By Mist, who specializes in Silent Assassination. Zabuza is infamous for killing 100 academy students when he was just one himself, and is the reason that the Village Hidden By Mist changed their outdated methods. Haku faked killing Zabuza to save him from Kakashi, and Zabuza prepared for a rematch, knowing the Sharingan's weakness.

Haku: Zabuza's young ally, he looks and sounds like a girl, and worships Zabuza like a hero. He led a very tough childhood, and was rescued in a way by Zabuza. He gains strength by fighting for Zabuza's sake. Haku used his signature moves against Naruto during this arc, such as her infamous Crystal Ice Mirrors, and her abilites of extreme speed.

Tazuna: A world renowned bridge builder from the Land of Waves, Tazuna requested protection from thugs. However, he left out the fact that there would be enemy ninjas after him as well.

Because we are pretty close to the Toonami airing and because it does air on Bionix tonight, I'm going to leave this open for now, pending any possible discussion by the Toonami Forum Moderators.

Characters:

Iruka Umino: The chunin instructor of Naruto's academy, he lost both his parents to the monster fox. Iruka has a special interest in Naruto, who he has a relationship not unlike that of a father and a son.

3rd Hokage: The wise leader of the Village Hidden By Leaves, he is the strongest ninja in the whole village. He looks out for all of the villagers, and is revered by everone.

Other characters: Mizuki, the evil instructor who manipulated Naruto and attacked Iruka. Konohamaru, the Hokage's grandson and Naruto's rival, and his teacher Ebisu, an elite trainer who despises Naruto. Additional characters include the other classmates of Naruto, Hinata Hyuuga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Chouji Akimichi. Gouzu and Meizu, the Demon Brothers, were Mist Ninja under Zabuza's control who were defeated by Kakashi. Gatou is the rutheless businessman who employed Zabuza, and deals drugs and other illegal items, working based on fear. Tsunami and Inari are Tazuna's only family members, and Inari was very bitter towards anyone who thinks they can be a hero, however Naruto managed to show him that there are real heroes.

Ahh, and so we reach towards the close of the Zabuza arc, probably one of my favourite parts of the show. I won't go into detail, but an impressive amount was left in... but still edited beyond necessity for Bionix. I still think YTV would have more success airing this in early primetime.

Also, YTV mysteriously skipped an episode of Inuyasha this week. Obviously an accident, but I hope they don't decide to pre-empt Naruto to get people caught up again... then we'd be a week behind again.

I finished watching this episode on YTV and want to ask:

Did anyone else receive bad transmission problems during the episode airing? It got pretty bad during Gatou's dialogue.

Yeah, that was terrible! YTV needs to start firing some of their Friday night tech guys. Or force them to host the block the following week or something.

Okay, let me get this up straight;
I particulary did not have any transmission problems, it was proably your cable company that was having problems. So I can confirm that this whole thing was localized in a way.

Now, time for the review:

This week, was what people said would be a real challenge for Viz here, having to deal with...a death scene! Poor Haku, I wish that this storyline got plotted so that Zabusa saved Haku like that, not the other way around! Well...at least she I mean he got what he wanted...?

Okay, the handling of the death scene is what I want to talk about now. Now, you say in the original that there was alot of blood. Of course in their newest trend, there was some blood here and there (they even kept the little bits on Kakashi and Zabuza's masks). But, I'm not sure if it was an edit or not, but when Haku "did her death thing", they kept some of the impact, but quickly went to a few Ken Burns'd reaction shots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Burns), then they showed her...eyes open?

Intresting, also they happened to keep the Lightning Blade thing as good clean fun...anything that has CGI effects MUST be cool and wicked! Well, I confess that it was cool. Unfortunatly, everything else seemed boring, like that extra storyline going behind the scenes of the gathering of warriors at the end.

Anyways, the episode was just incredible! The fight with Zabuza and Kakashi here really took a climactic turn leaving both fighters battered and bruised.

Haku's sacrifice was pretty powerful. I'm amazed at all the blood that they left in this episode. In addition, I do believe that the blood was necessary in this episode to seal the impact and significance of Haku's sacrifice. This scene also proved once and for all what kind of person Zabuza is.

The voice acting in this episode was top notch except for Naruto. Now I usually don't agree with Zamnjz about Flanagan's performance but in this episode, Flanagan just didn't shine here as Naruto. It seems she really got lazy here!

Sakura and Sasuke...words don't need to describe that scene.

And Gatou finally shows up for the final confrontation. Can't wait to see how this gets resolved next week!

P.S. Corvair or anyone else, can you tell me what Gatou said in this episode? The transmission problems couldn't let me hear it!

P.P.S. The next episode preview with Zabuza's sword gleaming in the sunset was unnecessary because now we have a pretty good idea what will happen!

Exactly how much blood did they leave? I know they could'nt have kept ALL of the blood.

It's been a while since I watched the episode in Japanese, and I'm not sure if I'm overstepping boundaries by mentioning this, but I don't think Haku's death was edited at all. Corvair obviously hasn't seen the original. :P

I'd expect the blood that's on him to stay... But not all of the blood that falls out. That's some TV14 material right there....
