It was tempting to vote Kira "Khan" Yamato, Cagalli "Carter" Yula Athha, or Athrun "Aslan" Zala, but Mu has more experience and skill.

Yzak took out both the Raider and the Forbidden without too much damage, when even God (aka Freedom) and Jesus (aka Justice) had trouble with them. And he not only survived the war, but became one of the top squadron leaders for ZAFT. And if you wanna included Destiny, he gets by far the coolest (if least used) Zaku of them all.

Dearka Elsman. He might not have gotten the glory that Kira and Athrun did, but he was damn cool, the first ZAFT guy to defect(take that Athrun, Andy, and Dacosta), and had a really cool Gundam.

Athrun definitely deserves more votes then he's gotten so far, so I cast for him. Kira is an easy pick but in some ways I find Athrun to be a more sympathetic character.

In terms of skills I think he's a good match for Kira when both are fighting their hardest (see Strike vs. Aegis). What's more, he's indisputably the master when it comes to gunfighting and fighting in general. Athrun the mobile suit pilot? Watch out for Athrun the soldier when you tick him off. The man has moves.

Yzak gets honorable mention simply because of what he did in Phase 50. Plenty of respect for the charismatic Mwu as well.

Well, do we really know when Andy defected? Dearka didn't really defect until the Orb battle, which was weeks after Andy's supposed death. Obviously, Andy and Lacus had been preparing this for a while before we actually see them stealing the Eternal, so who knows when he decided to defect.

Actions are louder then words. Even if Andy decided to defect before Dearka did, he was still the one who showed up in the middle of the Orb battle and protected the Archangel.

And he's cooler then all the other defectors combined, so there.

Dearka, followed closely by Kira, Dearka because he is just awesome, Kira really got me in Destiny so he will get my vote in round 10.

Marco Ramius is actually the Coolest Defector Ever. Though, his Great-something Grandaughter needs to work on her defecting style

It's rewarding to see how much Kira's personality changes by the end of the series. If the staff developed one character properly, it was him.

Mu over you. He should've stayed dead when he had the chance, that and despite not being a Gundam pilot until Episode 37, respect was already there.

A shame though that he never got the best of Rau.

Some pretty good candidates, but I went with good old Kira, but with good old reason.

People say he cried too much, but considering what he went though..well, you would too. He definitely seemed the most human of the cast, which is weird to say considering the whole ultimate coordinator and SEED mode thing. Definitely devloped into a great character.

As for actual piloting.....need I list off examples? In both the Strike and the Freedom he kicks innumerable amounts of ass, and takes innumerable amounts of names. Enough said.

Mu is cool and all, but my close second is actually Rau. Surprise, surprise.

Oh, and just to say...Kira WON'T be getting my vote by any means in Round 10, I promise you that one.

Well, this is interesting- with my vote I can make Kira and Mu even or give Mu a further edge. Hmm...

An update on the basic running of these polls- currently, I'm planning to stop at Round 10. Round 9 will be Zeta and Round 10 will be Destiny. 10 will also have a spoiler warning since technically it won't be released for 2 months. 10 rounds divides quite nicely for the next part of the 'contest' but it means F91 gets left out. The only other US released series I could use to make a nice even number is SDGF but since that technically doesn't have pilots I intentionally missed it out. I could pick one of the non-US released series but I think by doing so that'll strain participation. Any ideas?

For one thing don't do Victory Gundam. As much I liked Victory Gundam, it was too overstocked with characters to the point that I was irked at that fact. Plus I don't think people will be thrilled to start polling about who's the best Victory Gundam pilot when you have such 'luminaries' in the Gundam universe (apart from Usso Evin, Chronicle Asher, and Katajina Loos) like...
