Naruto "The Assassin of Mist" Talkback(Spoilers)

That's right, another week, another episode of Naruto. Last week was the begining of the first real story arc in the series, and this week is when things finally start to heat up. Definitely a can't miss episode(and with the number of encores, even the law of averages is on your side!).

Last Time: Although Squad 7 are all officially gennin, the missions they get are about as exciting as rescuing a cat for a feudal lord's wife. When Naruto tries to protest, he gets a lecture, but the 3rd Hokage decides to let Squad 7 go on a C-Class mission. Their task is to protect a renowned bridge builder named Tazuna, but when they get attacked, Kakashi realizes that there is more to this mission then meets the eyes. Naruto's cowardice caused him to get poisoned, but he fearlessly removes it by stabbing his hand, proclaiming that he won't go back. In another location, an angry man yells at a ninja for his subordinates failing, but the ninja tells him to shut up, and says he'll handle things personally.

Tonight: Equipped with a huuuuge sword and the voice of Steven Blum, Zabuza makes his move. How will the young ninjas deal with their first major obstacle, and manage to succed in their mission of protecting Tazuna?

Characters:
Naruto Uzumaki: Our loudmouthed protagonist, Naruto has grown up completely alone because of the 9 tailed fox sealed inside him. His one desire is to become Hokage and recieve the acknowledgment of the other villagers. His special technique is Shadow Clone Jutsu(Kage Bunshin no jutsu). He's rivals with Sasuke.

Sasuke Uchiha: The last survivor of the Uchiha Clan, Sasuke is an avenger who seeks to destroy a certain man. He's the top student from Naruto's class, and he immagines himself as above all of his peers. In truth, he is. His special technique is Fire Style, Fireball Jutsu(Katon Goukakyu no jutsu). He is Naruto's rival, and managed to get the first leg up in their rivalry with his quick acting against the Demon Brothers.

Sakura Haruno: Naruto and Sasuke's teammates, Sakura has a crush on Sasuke, and finds Naruto annoying. While she has book smarts, her field abilities are very low. She's rivals with her friend Ino Yamanaka.

Kakashi Hatake: A jonin, Kakashi has never passed a team of genin before. Almost all of his friends are dead. He places a heavy emphasis on teamwork, and believes those who abandon their friends are worse then scum.

Tazuna: A world renowned bridge builder from the Land of Waves, Tazuna requested protection from thugs. However, he left out the fact that there would be enemy ninjas after him as well.

Zabuza Momochi: Known as 'The Demon of the Mist', Zabuza has been sent to take care of Tazuna.

Iruka Umino: The chunin instructor of Naruto's academy, he lost both his parents to the monster fox. Iruka has a special interest in Naruto, whom he is a defacto father figure for.

3rd Hokage: The wise leader of the Village Hidden By Leaves, he is the strongest ninja in the whole village. He looks out for all of the villagers, and is revered by everone.

Other characters: Mizuki, the evil instructor who manipulated Naruto and attacked Iruka. Konohamaru, the Hokage's grandson and Naruto's rival, and his teacher Ebisu, an elite trainer who despises Naruto. Additional characters include the other classmates of Naruto, Hinata Hyuuga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Chouji Akimichi. Gouzu and Meizu, the Demon Brothers, were Mist Ninja under Zabuza's control who were defeated by Kakashi.

This is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series, partly because it was my first introduction to Naruto (via the manga in Shonen Jump Issue #8), and partly because it just friggin rocks. A certain scene involving Naruto & Sasuke will always rank in my Top 10 moments.

Hey, this episode also has my favorite scene, except mine only involved Sasuke, as soon as they entered the fog.
