The battle for Mamodo king has begun...as a new spell and an arrogant new Mamodo emerge! This is the official talkback for the ninth episode of the exciting/strange/juvinille shonen
anime "Zatch Bell!" (also known in some circles as "Konjiki no Gash Bell!") Remember to discuss the episode here and to keep all spoilers of future events hidden in spoiler boxes. While we do understand how ShoPro handles the dialouge of the show (keeping it similar to the original), they're editing tactics are still a tad....well, strange. (I doubt its gonna be too bad this week, but we've seen what this show can do already so be prepared) The show is a lot more than it seems to what a kids show should be, and sadly we may not see as much as we want to. But even though the "exclamation points" of the first couple episodes aren't as prevalent, they could still emerge at any time so be prepared!
Last Time: Well I think Sampo did it best in his post for the pics for most of the episode, so I'm gonna let him do it:

Zatch BEGS Kiyo to take him to school! Kiyo quickly reminds him of other best friend, the Volcan 300! So Zatch heads out to the park and runs into Kolulu. He quickly finds out that his new best friend pales in comparison to the hand made Tina doll. Zatch tearfully watches Kolulu and Lori run off happily together as he cluches his one armed Volcan 300.
Zatch confronts Kiyo and yells at him. He demands that Kiyo make him a newer friend who is better than Tina! Kiyo, confused at the little guy's ranting, notices that something strange happened on the News. A young girl with inhuman powers caused a three car pile up. They both head out to see what is happening while Lori ponders on the problem that she found out the day before. Kolulu has another personality that appears when she uses that book and decides not to ever read the book again. Things seem to go well untill Kolulu runs into the street to retrieve a ball that was thrown too high...
We all know the consequences of what happened next...Zatch and Kolulu were forced into a battle they couldn't avoid all because Lori wanted to protect her "sister". As the battle continued, Kolulu's second spell was revealed and was used due to Kolulu's coersion and Lori's protective nature. But deep down inside, the female duo knew that this whole path was wrong...both human and Mamodo (even Kolulu in her "other form") were crying, knowing they didn't want to fight but were forced into this situation. Kiyo kept wanting to go on, but Zatch immediately understood what was going on and refused to attack her anymore even at the risk of his own life. It took, though the intervention of Lori herself to stop "
berserk Kolulu" and return her to her normal, stable, cute self. But the damage was already done: she saw everything she did, both to her surroundings and even to her bookkeeper...and couldn't take it anymore. Taking the book from Lori, the female Mamodo tells Zatch to destroy it, removing her from the tournament and preventing her from becoming this "other self" again. As long as she remained in the human world, the temptation of the book will always remain..and this was the only way to save both herself and her bookkeeper. Zatch doesn't want to do it, but with a little trick Kiyo plays on him, what was needed to be done was done. Lori didn't want to see Kolulu go away, but the Mamodo comforted her that the two will always be family no matter where they are. Then, turning to Zatch, she says the words that end up changing his own perspective for the rest of the series:
"If the Mamodo world was ruled by a benevolent king, then we could bring an end to this horrible fighting..." (OK, not word for word, but you get the point)
And with those words, the remains of Kolulu's book burned away and she returned to the Mamodo world...leaving behind a big sister and a friend with a new determination....
