We were hip before hip was cool: Powerpuff Concluded

    Like This Thread!
Just figured I'd post this here, since I just saw it on the main page.

The Powerpuff Girls, off-and-on Toonami show (which even aired the movie... ignore that it had aired on general CN and the Saturday block previously) has been canned.

It hasn't really been canned/cancelled so much as just finished. They completed the episodes that were ordered and then the folks who worked on the show left to do other things. It had a good run and everything that was ordered was produced. Also, the network could always bring it back someday as they've done with Johnny Bravo and Ed, Edd and Eddy.

yeah it has not been cancelled, I believe Craig said it just finished, it was better off ending IMO. The late episodes were not that good sort of like dexter. I would hope to see maybe specials or DTVs in the future.

Wow. It's the end of an era.

I wonder if the final episode will actually conclude something.

Yeah, Powerpuff:Beyond, looks good. The end of a era, as long as they don't do no PPT or whatever crap, I'm good.

Finally...the show started to stink in its later years.

While I've missed 90% of the PPG episodes since it went digital, I am glad it's finally taking a rest. Even the network doesn't seem as thrilled with PPG as it used to be. Kinda like when Dexter came back.

There's no difference. People just think the word "cancelled" sounds like a bad thing. Like when you call a drug addict a junkie.

Maybe not so much in cable, but I think in television overall there is a difference. Broadcast television is probably the biggest example, i.e. Fox will cancel a show after X number of episodes even if there are episodes left to air or still in production. Another reason I like to distinguish is because it would be hard to say a show like Fooly Cooly, Cowboy Bebop or even Seinfeld was cancelled. Instead, the creators of those shows just decided they didn't want to make any more even though Adult Swim would turn over large sums of cash for more Bebop or NBC would have gladly ordered more Seinfeld. Personnally, I see "cancelled" as a showing leaving before its time as opposed to just being finished. When people hear the word "cancelled" they tend to think they are losing out on something. In this situation though they really aren't because the folks behind the scenes don't want to make anymore for now. They'd rather do work for other shows. "Cancelled" can be defined a number of ways though.

While I was never the biggest fan of the show, didn't like how it was on Toonami, I never found the earlier episodes a waste of time. Some actually grabbed my interest a bit. Like said before, it's probally for the best it ends now and doesn't stretch into a wreck.

    End

It was a pretty good show. I was happy to see new episodes. Didn't expect this to happen with all the Powerpuff stuff they've been selling, and the songs on Fridays. Hopefully this will open up some more space for other new shows.

I stopped watching PPG long ago because it started to become repetitive, IMO. I guess it's better that they end it now instead of dragging it out to the point of insanity.

This sure is an end of an era. I still remember when PPG was just a What a Cartoon! cartoon. Those were the days. R.I.P Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup

Good riddance. The show was pretty good early on, but then it just got plain stupid.

Yeah. Finished. Well, I watched the show as a young'n, so it's all good. Just, when a creator leaves, the show should end.
