    Toonami Killer Apps: The Thread

    Like This Thread!
No one can really say what Toonami has instore in the future and WS likes to throw us something completely out of spectrum at least once a year but there are a few that seem quite possible and others that seem very likely. So these are my picks for "the future of Toonami"

    Flame of Recca
Expected: Late Fall or Winter of 2004
    Company: Viz
    Possibility: Fair
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Toonami thrives on Shonen animes. Dragonball GT and Yu Yu Hakusho could use another friend and it would be an awful waste for Viz not to put Recca on television.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Bad ending (or so I hear), lack of motivation on Viz’s part, goes to Adult Swim (unlikely but still possible)

    The Batman
    Expected: Early Spring of 2005
    Company: WB
    Possibility: Excellent
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
CN is using Toonami for the premieres of all their big action shows. It seems likely. Hopefully it will get better since the current review has me thinking it may not even be worth watching.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
CN might decide to air it on weekdays in prime time but with 13 episodes it seems unlikely.

    Gad Guard
    Expected: Late Spring of 2005
    Company: Geneon
    Possibility: Good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
CN digs giant robots and this show has cool giant robots and kids. I mean how doesn’t that scream Toonami material? I’ve also heard nothing but good things about the series. It could be a sleeper hit.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Geneon could give it to G4TechTV or not get it on TV at all

    Naruto
    Expected: Early Spring of 2005
    Company: Unknown
    Possibility: Excellent
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
This show will be on TV and it will probably be on Cartoon Network as it’s the home of all the really big action shonens except for One Piece. The show has the qualities to be the next Dragonball Z for CN and you can bet they are eyeing it.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
4kids might snag it for the Fox Box or it might end up on Adult Swim. It could go either way.

    Hunter X Hunter
Expected: Summer or Fall of 2005
    Company: Unknown (most likely FUNimation)
    Possibility: Good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Yu Yu Hakusho is quite popular (though not DBZ popular) and this series was made by the same guy. It’s a quality shonen that has yet to be tapped.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
It’s pretty old so CN might not want it, it may not get licensed.

    Keroro Gunso (aka SGT Frog)
Expected Summer or Fall of 2005
Company: Unknown (most likely Bandai, rumored Media Blasters)
    Possibilty: Poor
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Because I want it to be… In the grand tradition of Duel Masters… This could be a great ice breaker show to kick off the block. Its quite entertaining and lots of fun. There isn’t much action but there is more than in your typical mostly comedy anime.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Lack of action, goes to a kids block with heavy edits, doesn’t air on television.

    IGPX: the series
    Expected: Fall of 2005
    Company: The Cartoon Network
    Possibility: Good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
It was a Toonami original mini-series.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
    It may never be made.

    Viewtiful Joe
    Expected: Fall of 2005
    Company: Unknown
    Possibility: Fair
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
It’s a well known property that isn’t exactly kiddish, should have some good action and has a unique style to it (well the game did anyway). I think it will probably be put on the fast track to be ready to go by next year.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Might end up on the Fox Box or Kids’ WB!

    Bleach
    Expected: Fall of 2005
Company: Unknown (most likely FUNimation or Viz)
    Possibility: Good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
It is another shonen that’s making some waves. If the manga becomes popular enough the show will likely be fast tracked for next year.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Might go to Adult Swim, might not be licensed soon enough.

    Gundam SEED: Destiny
Expected: Fall of 2005 (at latest Spring of 2006)
Company: Bandai (but they currently do not have the license)
    Possibility: Excellent
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
If Gundam SEED doesn’t completely bomb then Bandai probably will not hesitate to get the sequel in the US and as soon as possible at that. If Toonami stays once a week for premieres then they’d only need some of the series to dub at a time. It may not get fast tracked but I really think it will is SEED is a success.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Bandai waits to release it later or SEED bombs so they keep it DVD only.

    No talkie, just listen. Here:

    Kenran Butoh Sai
    Expected: Late 2004/ Early 2005
    Company: Bandai
    Possibility: Good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Perfect fit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just add Outlaw Star plus One Piece and you get this bucket of straight up fun. First episode could go completely uncut, infact most episodes could, and yet it can still get them teens with it's charm. No one would or could complain about this one, about anything.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
    Doesn't get props.

    Bleach
    Expected: 2005
    Company: *Who knows?*
    Possibility: Pretty good
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
If done right it can make a great mark. By the time it comes over here, I'd expect Yu Yu Hakusho to be either finished or drawing to it's near close. This would be even better to have in Hakusho's spot than it's own self.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
If they decide to F^ the anime counterpart and not keep atleast some of Taito's style.

    Midori no Hibi
    Expected: 2005
    Company: Media Blasters
    Possibility: Not likely
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Imagine if they could.....it'd be the next Tenchi, minus a few bad things. Many people right now are like "What the hell's he smoking?" but if it could manage to work somehow it'd be exactly the kind of diversity, without leaving behind core, needed. Concept would grab people as well. Hopefully the right way.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Uh...because it'd be itself. And people overreact.

It was a Toonami original mini-series.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
    It may never be made.
Because on most of these you are listing the company that holds the American license, the company in this case would be Cartoon Network. Assuming they didn't get a co-production deal there wouldn't be anyone to license it from. Instead it would be a CN (Toonami) Original. Just instead of say WB producing JLU for CN, Production I.G. would be producing IGPX for CN.

    Molly: Star Racer
    Expected: Late 2005/2006, 26 episodes
Company: Unlicensed. Produced by Sav-the-World (French).
Possibility: Fair (Likely too many interested parties for possibility to be "good."
Why I think it will be part of Toonami: While all anyone has really seen is the trailer, that alone drew rave reviews. The storyline looks to have intriguing possibilities and the 2-D cell shading blows current standards out of the water. The at least somewhat serious anime action series would be right up Toonami's alley.
Reasons it wouldn't be: Depending on how the final product turns out, it might be better suited for Miguzi. Considering all the attention this series has received very early in its production life, Kids WB or Fox Box might also try to grab this up.

I think, with ADV on ASA, people are relatively tired of "What will/could air?" threads.

While it is similar to other past threads, I must give Hyper Luigi credit for the unique format here. Rather than folks just listing a bunch of stuff they want to see, the format forces people to put some actual information down and more importantly, actually discuss the pros and cons of the series' chances.

Bingo. I don't want this to be... "this should be on Toonami just because I want it to" I want this to be a listing of shows that could actually be on Toonami.

I would love to see Keroro Gunso on Toonami, best place for it. I could see it on FoxBox, of course with edits, but then it would be ruined. Hopefully its Bandai, not media Blasters. I dont like to many MBs' work. Hopefilly it gets liscened soon, the sub is takin' FREAK'N FOREVER!!!!

    To keep us going.....

    Ninku (TV)
    Expected: 2005 at latest
    Company: *Unliscened as of now.*
    Possibility: Ugh(That isn't good)
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Pretty decent. Though after watching this, Naruto seems less original. I promise Fusuke used an attack exactly like the Rasegan. It just wasn't given as much detail. Honestly would expect HxH more than this. And would probally hope for.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Nobody cares THAT much for it at all, or don't know it exists. Not as violent or anything as YYH or Gundam so it could maybe be more Miguzi material.

    Hajime No Ippo
    Expected: Late 2004/2005
    Company: Geneon
Possibility: As good a chance as Gad Guard.
Why I think it will be part of Toonami:
Personally my favorite sport anime. It has this energy to it that really makes you get into it. Teens would love it. I. Guarantee. It. You will feel like boxing after watching one of the matches. It follows a formula of training and then boxing but can manage to stay great. Likable characters also. Come on...you hafta hear teens talking about boxin' each other in the hallways. They'd be glued to the seat watching this one. A Seinen I believe.
    Reasons it wouldn’t be:
Sport oriented anime, for some reason, aren't as desired as other genres.

I don't buy anime, so just can't do a format like that. So gathering all of the information I've seen...

Flame of Recca and s.Cry.ed show up a lot, so they're not out of the picture. The Batman, Bojack Unbound, and Destiny seem logical. And I know most of you won't want to hear this, but Shaman King and SD Gundam very well could. So those are my predictions.

    Here's one not mentioned.

    Tokyo Underground
    Expected: 2005, late 2005
    Company: Geneon
Possiblility: Eh... I'm not sure. There are pro's and con's of this that makes me unsure.
Why you think it should be on Toonami?:
It's not too bad actually and their are some characteristics of the show such as the story, mostly characters, and setting that make the show pretty interesting to watch. I'd say probably wouldn't do good as most Toonami shows but probably give it a try.
    Reasons it wouldn't be:
At times, it's just a plain old anime. Seems like it would be underrated. (thinks hard)

    Gundam X

    Expected: Late Spring/Early Summer
    Company: Bandai
    Chance: Good
Why you think it should be on Toonami?
It could be the Gundam of 2005 and span the time between Seed and Destiny almost perfectly. It also makes a perfect ending to the one year war and would need minimal editing
    Reasons it wouldn't be
They couls go straghit to Destiny and it has an underserves black sheep reputation

Anouther reason for not to be on toonami is the abrupt ending. I don't want others to get hooked into it like I was only to be disapointed by the abrupt and rushed ending.

Well, I'll give it a shot

    Angelic Layer
    Expected: already available
    Company: ADV
Possibility: 50/50 IF CN grabs it
Why do you think it should be on Toonami?
It's pretty much a perfect Toonami show. It features butt-kicking acting that had no blood at all, a cast full of screwball personalities, it's loaded with comedy, there's already a manga out there and DVD's so it's a known product and it has that nice digi-cell gloss.
    Reason's it wouldn't be:
It features a female lead, the dub isn't exactly top quality, it's an ADV product and the realtionship between CN and ADV is an unknown factor, Miguzi, Fox Box or Kids WB seem as likely if not more so

    Project A.R.M.S.
Expected: Mostly out, last few discs coming out soon
    Company: Viz
    Possibility: Low
Why do you think it should be on Toonami?
It's got all the things Toonami loves, or atleast used to love. Great atmosphere, building crunching action, low amount of bood and a fair amount of comedy, plus it's from a company CN has a fairly good relationship with, Viz.
    Reason's it wouldn't be
It's cell and it looks it. The style is, unfortunately, old despite it being a fairly recent production, there's some fairly rough language, the themes are problematic, a mix of Alice in Wonderland and some heavy religious overtones plus conspiracy theories

The relationship between ADV and Cartoon Network is not an unknown factor. There are zero problems between Cartoon Network and ADV. ADV has said this themselves multiple times. Karl Olson has checked on this personnally, in person. He has flown across country to do so. ADV pitches to Cartoon Network, to G4TechTV, to the International Channel. There are no problems in the relationship between CN and ADV. I repeat, there are no problems in the relationship between CN and ADV. Say it with me now, there are no problems in the relationship between CN and ADV. One more time, there are no problems in the relationship between CN and ADV.

    Probably should have been clearer...

We're not rela sure what one is looking for out of the other so far. Removing GRW, they've never worked together on anything before the very recent Super Milk-Chan anouncement, so it's a bit of an unknown. I NEVER said there was a problem, just an "unknown factor". We pretty much know what Viz, Tokyopop, Bandai, Geneon, Hasbro and Funi expect out of their dealings with CN right now. We don't know what ADV's looking for as well as we know the others. That's what I ment.
