Is "Mobile Suit Gundam" worth getting on DVD?

    Like This Thread!
i havent yet seen this series, although when cn was airing it i caught an ep here and there. i want to expand my dvd collection, and was thinking of a series to get. now, for those who have seen this series, is it any good, or worth owning? is the story complexed and deep, etc, are the characters well developed? i know the animation's old school, but other than that, hows the animaton quality in terms of action, pacing, fluididy, etc?

also, how does it compare to "gundam wing", because that, along w/ eva, are my 2 favorite animes of all time, so if those of you whove seen msg can compare it to gundam wing interms of story quality, id really appreciate it.

one more thing, do you need to see msg to really apprieciate the other UC gundam shows?

thanks for the help you guys. peace.

Re: Is "Mobile Suit Gundam" worth getting on DVD?

I haven't yet seen all of MSG, so I can't tell you too much about it.

But, as a Gundam Wing fan, I'd suggest checking out the 08th MS Team series - its much shorter than GW, and not as epic, but its a really good series in my opinion - lots of guerilla warfare fighting with the Gundams on the planet surface, if that's your sort of thing (it is for me!).

I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random, or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
    Spiral out. Keep going"

If you don't mind the dub, then get it. If you want a sub/dub DVD, don't buy it. It doesn't have the original Japanese track, as Bandai couldn't get the license to it, as the DVD has not been released in Japan yet.

And Clayface agrees with me. (Not the other way around. )
08th MS Team really is a nice series, with a nice platoon-like atmosphere and (in my opinion) the Gundam series with the best executed romance subplot.

but still, is MSG a good series? How would you rate it? and how does it compare to gundam wing. also, do you understand/appreiciate the other UC gundam shows more if youve seen MSG?

I think understanding the UC universe will depend on your knowledge of MSG. It's a pretty good series with some flaws (some useless filler episodes) but it gains momentum and intensity as the series goes on. It was groundbreaking for its time, and the character depth still holds up better than new American and new anime shows today.

It's one of my top 5 Gundam series, so there you go. I think the depth of the characterization is stronger than GWing's, but that's just me.

there was one episode where the White Base ran out of salt. This is what I consider filler.
