The only Gundam currently licensed in America is Unicorn, which is an ongoing OAV series. They'd probably want to wait until after its finished before trying to air it.

It'll probably be 00 that makes it out first when a deal is finally reached for a new distributor for Gundam in the US (assuming its a Toonami friendly company like Funi and not Sentai).

I agree, 00 is the best candidate at the moment. Its subject matter, general quality and modern animation made it an excellent fit for Ani-Monday and it'd be amazing for Toonami 2.0 (I might add that Gurren Lagann, it's one-time Ani-Monday counterpart, would also be awesome. Those two together were serious contenders for the best hour of anime on U.S. television ever). The spectacle that is Awakening of the Trailblazer would make for the best movie night in years. So far as recent or established alternatives go Seed didn't do so well before, Wing now looks considerably older than everything else that's been on Saturday nights in recent memory, AGE skews too young and has no localization and could not conceivably be ready for TV for some time even if it were picked up tomorrow. The problem with Unicorn is that, as fantastic as it is, it's unfortunately an awkward fit. Each episode is very long, episodes 1-6 would easily fill 90 minutes on the schedule after commercials. Episode 7 would occupy even more, given its confirmed 90 minute running time. That's a rough tradeoff. And after seven weeks Toonami's back in reruns, it's the FLCL problem.

Gundam 00 in a way is an updated Wing with more of a contemporary look at the Gundams. Gundam 00 basically depicts our world becoming a Gundam world and it does so very well. It's grounded and the emotions run strong without being overtly sappy like the SEEDs. Gundam 00 also has some of the best mecha battles I have ever seen. Gundam 00 is probably the best choice for a Gundam series to run on modern Toonami, basically.

Gundam AGE seems to be something Sunrise wants to forget about considering they cut AGE short four episodes and seem to not be making any sort of international push with it. I would not be surprised if AGE winds up becoming another Gundam X.

I would not rule out Turn A Gundam. The Toonami staff has said multiple times on the tumblr that they're fond of Turn A, and Turn A is newer than Bebop and despite its age it had a big budget and it animates well. Turn A needs a licensor and a dub but if Toonami reached to Sunrise asking for an English version there's no doubt in my mind that Sunrise would fund one.

I imagine if Unicorn airs on Toonami it would be a monthlong event presented like movies (episodes 1 and 2, then 3 and 4, then 5 and 6, then 7).

Turn A's the one I'm personally most curious about seeing air.

That would depend on what Sunrise wants to do with them. Back in the old days, they could just easily dump the responsibility on Bandai, but it's going to be a bit more complicated now.

Gundam 00 would be the best choice for a newer series.

Well lets go down the list...

    Mobile Suit Gundam

PROS: dubbed and ready to go
CONS: Has already had one disastrous (and unfinished) run on Toonami. Too old.

    Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam

PROS: dubbed (albeit with major edits that also effected the subtitled version)
CONS: The dub is pretty bad. The theme songs were replaced.

    Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ

    PROS: Well it is dubbed...
CONS: ...but you don't wanna hear it. Series already regarded as being too silly.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket

PROS: Its dubbed and is arguably the finest Gundam series ever made.
CONS: Only six episodes and only aired on Midnight Run.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory

PROS: Its dubbed and has technically never aired on Toonami before
CONS: Has run on the infamous first version of Adult Swim Action before. Also its crap.

    Mobile Suit V Gundam

PROS: One of the few TV Asahi-era Gundams to not show up in the States in any form.
    CONS: No official subs/dub

    Mobile Fighter G-Gundam

PROS: Dubbed and ready to go
CONS: Has already aired on Toonami. Not as much of a nostalgia factor as its successor.

    New Mobile Saga Gundam Wing

    PROS: NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD!
CONS: Its not nearly as good as you remember. Kind of a backwards step.

    After War Gundam X

PROS: The other TV Asahi-era Gundam series that never made it out here.
    CONS: No subs, no dub.

Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team

PROS: Chance to finally air the full series (and not hacked up to boot)
CONS: Only 13 episodes (of which they only ran 12 of last time)

    Turn A Gundam

PROS: Well Bandai WAS working on a translation...
CONS: ...except it was going to be a sub only release.

    Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

PROS: Now in disco gun free HD!
CONS: Bombed harder than MSG last time on Toonami, airing it requires you to air....

    Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny.

    PROS: *laughs maniacally*
    CONS: HAVE YOU SEEN IT?!?!?!?!

    Mobile Suit Gundam 00

PROS: Its a very good show.
CONS: Has already aired on Ani-monday.

    Mobile Suit Gundam UC

PROS: Its very good and dubbed!
CONS: There are only 7 episodes... and they're all 60-90 minutes long.

    Mobile Suit Gundam AGE

    PROS: its brand new!
CONS: Not dubbed. Also... A CHILDREN'S SHOW THAT WAS PRETTY AWFUL.

On a logistical scale SEED needs some minor work since they made some adjustments to the soundtrack for HD IIRC.

On an emotional scale... I'd still take it over the utterly despicable Destiny (which was a complete slog getting through the second time I watched it).

It only failed because of S&P meddling, resulting in silly neon edits and a change to a Friday doom slot. Now that's on a late night Saturday slot, they can air it unedited, which would solve those issues.

And if that doesn't work, mention Rarity and Soarin are in the cast. People will swarm to watch that it now! :p

PROS: It has Meyrin, Jinto from Crest of the Stars, and Revy from Black Lagoon.
    ...
Well, it could be worse. It's not as bad as D.I.C.E.

Edit: Nor is it as bad as Star Trek Voyager. I'd take any episode of Seed Destiny over Voyager.

Awakening of the Trailblazer is pretty dreadful. I'd actually ignore it.

SEED's failure, if I recall correctly, was mostly with the target demographics of kids and teen boys; its ratings were better with teen girls and with adults. On an adult block, it could do OK, probably better than IGPX or E7. But on the Toonami tumblr they've said that while they still like it, it's one of their least favorite Gundam shows, so yeah, its chances are negligible.

I wonder if that dislike had to do with the memories of executive meddling.

Memories of Destiny probably hurt the show as well (wouldn't be surprised if they were counting that whole universe as SEED).
