I'm asking because I always assumed it was Genghis Khan, but then when that Alexander movie came out I kept on hearing everyone saying he was history's greatest conqueror and amassed the largest empire anyone has ever seen.

But I would have sworn that I read somewhere that Genghis Khan was the greatest conqueror. So, who was history's greatest conqueror - Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan or maybe even somebody else?

I believe Mesoptamia was a larger empire than the Khan dynasty.

You know, I just wrote a paper about William Shatner's comeback for pop culture, and guess what I used for my preface?

Khan had the most. He took all of Asia compared to North Africa and Europe.

Land mass is possibly different from empire. If we're going to go by size of territory, then Khan probably wins it.

In just square miles, Genghis Khan had the greater empire. His empire was like four times larger than Alexander the Great.

You know, Alexander did make it all the way to India too.

You know what? No contest. Speaking as someone who has done 30 page papers on BOTH Alexander AND Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire....

I have a fantastical notion (not true, of course just a fun thought) that the Soul of Alexander is Reborn every 700 years or so...

    c. 300 BCs Alexander
    c. 400 ADs Atilla the Hun
    c. 1100 ADs Genghis
    c. 1800 ADs Napoleon

To be fair to Alexander alot of the territory attributed to Genghis Khan was actually taken over bu Kubali Khan and others who came later. As a matter of fact Genghis Khan never even took over all of China.

Alexander's empire encompassed all of Greece (I think) Egypt and then stretched all the way to Northwestern India. The only reasons he didn't go on was because his troops were tired (some people say he didn't want to deal with Indian warlords and their Elephants too).

I think you are correct. I read that while Ghengis Khan's total amount of land conquered was quite impressive that the Mongol empire expanded under his son and other leaders who increased the size to four times the amount territory as Alexander.

Khan wins hands down. He conquered with his clan from Korea to Hungary.
