    Re: Joy drop
I don't really keep track of their albums, I just download a lot of their songs off WinMX (Napster knockoff). My favorite song of theirs is "beautiful like you"

Oh yeah :) Dream Theater is awesome. Their guitaring is amazing. I like their albums "Images and Words" and "Scenes from a Memory". Although nowhere near my Nightwish :D

I dunno if it's my favorite, but I like "Over the Water" from Life. In fact, that whole album is awesome. Also, I like "Nil" from Gran Turismo a lot. Makes me sad though. I get an image of a filthy alcoholic bum in an alley wearing frowning clown make-up when I hear it. *wipes away a tear*

I'd say my favorite albums are Emmerdale and Gran Turismo, tho all the albums are really awesome. My favorite songs are off the X-Files album, Deuce, and the 10 Things I Hate about you soundtrack, War. Awesome songs, Nina's voice is oh-so fine in everything she does...

Actually, Lovefool is the song that got me into the band. And it took me about a year after I heard the song to find out who did it! A local radio statoin played it, and the first time I heard it, I thought I had to have this song on CD! But this radio station NEVER tells you who sings the songs, something I find very frustrating and irritating. I emailed them asking them who sung it, even quoting lyrics, but got NO reply. My quest to find this song was unrelenting.

Then one day I was watching Cruel Intentions. The song came on in the pool scene, so I immediately went to the menu on my DVD player, jumped to the credits, and found out who did the song! I got the CD. I don't know if I have an absolute favorite on the CD (well, Lovefool is cool, but not my favorite on the CD). I need to listen to it again and get back to you!

Bud...I just had to give a raised hat to your music tastes! EXCELLENT CHOICES! I see several in there I forgot in my list. Throwing Muses, Pixies, Garbage....among others.

But it is also nice to see somebody else likes Miranda Sex Garden! I need to get more of their CDs. I tell ya, some of the music I like is so obscure I wonder if anybody else listens to it when I meet somebody who does, it's kinda cool.

Is it just me or, when reading these kind of threads, your eyes glaze over and everything becomes a string of meaningless symbols...

Well, here's my two pennies worth of such meaningless symbols (I've tarted my list up with my fav LP's by the artists in question):

Barry Adamson (definately "Moss Side Story")
    Aerosmith (Hmm, "Getta Grip", probably...)
David Bowie (either "The Man Who Sold the World" or "Hunky Dory")
Kate Bush ("The Whole Story" - a great collection of cool tracks)
Sheryl Crow (erm - "Sheryl Crow"..?)
    Danny Elfman ("Batman Returns")
Foo Fighters (gotta be "The Colour and the Shape" every time)
Peter Gabriel (either his 3rd LP, which had no title, or "Ovo")
Sarah MacLachlan (Easily "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy". I'm surprised that people who've mentioned Dido haven't mentioned Sarah - VERY similiar style...)
Early Roxy Music (when Eno was with them and they weren't just an extension of Ferry's libido...)
The Sisters of mercy (How cool is "Floodland"?)
    Sting ("Ten Summoner's Tales")
Tom Waits ("Mule Variations", purely because of the excellent track "What's He Building in There?")
XTC ("Oranges and Lemons", which features my personal anthem "Mayor of Simpleton")
    Yello ("Baby" or "Stella")

God, I feel so old! These are the creme-de-la-creme for me - I could go on forever if I included artists by whom I have the odd LP here and there (Cardigans, Live, Radiohead, Czars, Soul Wax, U2, Prance, Victor etc)...

Thanks for listening. See what I mean now about your eyes glazing over..?

Hey, I dig me some Sarah McLaghlan. "Surfacing" was good, but I still like "Fumbling Toward Ecstacy" better...

The first three tracks on "Surfacing" are superb, but after that it kinda loses it a bit. If ALL of "Surfacing" was as good as "Building a Mystery" and "I Love You", it would have been better than "Fumbling"...

Have you checked out Sarah's "B Sides and Other rarities" LP? Her rendition of XTC's "Dear God" is something else..!

Excellent choices again (although I must confess to have uncomfortable love/hate with Garbage - occasionally feeling that they are band which relies way to much on production over long term substance).

Throwing Muses and Kristen Hersh are another two favs I forgot (or didn't have room) to add....

Hm, I didn't know Sarah had a B-sides CD out. I'll have to look for it, since I really liked her cover of "Dear God."

As for Garbage, I can understand the concerns, since they're a band that carefully produces everything to within an inch of its life to ensure that nary a note isn't out of place. So it's not that organic. However, they really do use that over-production to their advantage, as they've created some absolutely incredible sonic creations. Listen to any given song on "Version 2.0" and try to pick out each individual part... there's tons of them, yet they blend together seamlessly.

Yeah, they do overproduce a bit. I think they spent the better part of a year mixing V2.0. Still, they're my favorite band, for more than the music. I love Shirley. She's funny, intelligent and outspoken, and I like that.
Anyway, their new album is called BeautifulGarbage, and it's going to be released on October 2 in the US, but everyone else gets it a day earlier.
The first single is called "Androgyny". I've heard it, and it's ok, but not my favorite from them. I like the chorus, especially how Shirl says "boys" and "girls" in the backing vocals. It's supposed to be spoofing the current manufactured-pop trend both musically and lyrically. I can just imagine Britney fans singing along to it.
The second single will be "Cherry Lips", which I've heard a clip of. Definately unlike anything of Garbage's I've heard before, but I like it. Sounds 60's girl group-ish. :O)

    tracks:

    01. Shut Your Mouth
    02. Androgyny
    03. Can't Cry These Tears
    04. Till The Day I Die
    05. Cup of Coffee
    06. Silence Is Golden
    07. Cherry Lips
    08. Breaking Up The Girl
    09. Drive You Home
    10. Parade
    11. Nobody Loves You
    12. Untouchable
    13. So Like A Rose

Somehow, Garbage's new album leaked onto the net...and I impulsively d/led the whole thing.
I didn't WANT to, I HAD to! I promised myself I wouldn't after I did the same thing with V2.0, because it's better to be surprised.
    But I did it anyway.
So, I actually like it. It's better than V2.0, but not better than their first album.
    Best songs:

    Shut Your Mouth
    Cherry Lips
    Drive You Home
    Breaking Up the Girl
    Nobody Loves You

PS- I tried to make myself a Shirley avatar, but of course I couldn't get it to work because I'm a retard.

*hangs head in shame for his lack of willpower*
