What if Adult Swim was totally axed for Toonami?

I know this would NEVER happen, unless [as] took a complete nosedive in ratings and Toonami was still doing good, but how would you feel about it?

Honestly, I'd like it. All of the [as] shows I watched are gone. Reruns of KoH is the only thing I care about.

Nine hours of Toonami every night?
    Sorry, that would be overkill.

As cool as that sounds in a way, I agree that nine hours of Toonami every night would be a bit much. I don't watch any Adult Swim show, so I wouldn't mind seeing them being replaced, but it might be a bit too much. I'd be okay with a two or three hour weeknight run for the block though.

I wouldn't mind having a mini-Toonami block on weeknights for say only 2 hours per night. Long shows like One Piece and Naruto could definitely benefit from it. Replacing all of Adult Swim, though? That would be overkill and a bad business move.

ya i agree, it would be overkill. Not like many would be able to enjoy it fully anyway... i mean some of us can't be up late at night every night. Thing about adult swim is that on weeknights its mostly just reruns. technically they could do that with anime aswell, but I tend to tire of reruns of such series. Heck a few months after i got nicktoons i found myself growing bored of avatar because i had seen the series too many times with how much they replay it. A lot of Anime feels like its at its best when its either new, or you haven't seen it in awhile; though some are better than others when it comes to reruns.

Most i would ever want is the midnight run... an hour or two. Maybe use it to run the REALLY long shonen series while saturday night handles the normal length series.

If they really stuck to the "nothing but shonen" ideal, that would get old fast.

Considering AS's comedy shows bring in the most ratings, that would probably be a really bad idea.

A DVR Theater-type block for action would probably be cool, though.

Even if/when AS fails to entertain, it won't pan out as completely planned, IMHO, for hopefully these reasons (as much as it would boost quality on a block that seems to royally lack it and could get much more recognition, besides rating if it did strive for more quality!):

    1. Toonami embraces more variety/genres in their anime fare, period - if only to pick up in quality where AS overall falls flat.

    2. More original shows with actual effort behind them get made/are acquired without argument (like Venture Bros. and Boondocks, and in some cases - Black Dynamite (does anyone like that show??), if only so we're not relying on used/cheap goods to carry/bookend the channel...

Even then, that would get old/hard to deal with quick if the block is on for a few hours too long!

Couple all of that with what chdr said - and you can see while I'm all for improving AS's quality and usage of their time, it won't work if all we're doing is catering to a smaller demographic than people claim to think it is over the bigger one (the comedy-loving crowd is larger than the anime fans demographic - sad and disheartening, I'm, sure, but spoken for truth!), causing a near irreparable ratings drop should it ever take place...

I'm all for it I like anime on weekdays instead of that weekly stuff, I hate that.

Sent from my SPH-D710BST using toonzone. And I'm a loner at heart.

Geez, I hope not. There's still a lot of creative, original stuff coming from Adult Swim, even in its Family Guy-dominated state. To replace all of that with what's basically a nostalgia block filled with shonen would be sad.

The only fraction of a possibility for Adult Swim to lose weekdays to Toonami is if they lost the FOX shows and couldn't produce enough hits of their own to keep their network status. Even then it's cheaper to run their own shows in those hours so if that did well enough then Toonami would at most get a bit of time on weekdays, not replace AS as a whole.

I don't want Toonami to replace Adult Swim as a whole. That's a terrible waste of potential even if Toonami were to suddenly produce its' own original series.

Adult Swim remains one of if not the best venue's for experimental animation for older audiences and that should never be replaced by a block that is mostly third party action programming from Japan.

They could however share the space in a manner that gives both their due. This would all still be under the Adult Swim label.

First give CN back 9PM-10PM to extend their own prime time and then use the remaining 8 hours a night like so.

    Monday - Thursday

10PM-12AM Toonami - making use of those long running popular shounen capping off with a rotating slot at 11:30PM for variety sake
12AM-6AM Original Comedy lead by Robot Chicken or Venture Bros.

10PM -12AM - Toonami - same as weekdays but maybe running FLCL and comedic actoin series at 11:30 on occasion - If Toonami had original series this would be a good place for them
12AM-6AM Original Animated Comedy Premieres and reruns

Based on Friday doing great for Adult Swim lately it seems like moving premieres to Friday would work out really well

10PM-6AM Toonami lead by popular shounen with shorter series premieres starting at 11:30 or 12AM and ending with classics

10PM-12AM Original Live Action Comedy Block featuring premieres and reruns of all the live-action Adult Swim series such as Childrens Hospital and Loiter Squad
12AM-6AM Premiere Encores Block with 2 hours of animated comedy, 2 hours of animated action and 2 hours of live-action comedy

I put the live-action stuff here because it's mostly prime time friendly, theoretically CN would lead-in to it with a live-action movie. Comedy premieres besides Robot Chicken seem to struggle a bit on Sunday lately so I thought I'd try them on Friday. Friday has become too valuable to waste on the slightly lower rated live-action premieres so while it does break tradition, I think this will work out better for the ratings.

What I'd really like to see from the current Adult Swim is scale back a bit on the FOX reruns in favor of giving Naruto, Bleach and eventually One Piece some time on weekdays. While they can't possibly compete with Family Guy or even Cleveland Show and American Dad, they can get comparable ratings to King of the Hill in that 9PM hour and that'd be an ideal place to show them. Alternatively as just a way to throw action viewers a bone, they could (as some have suggested) extend DVR theater getting rid of the encores of some shows to run a small Toonami block early in the morning, probably consisting of Bleach and InuYasha. They don't have to pay to run 4AM-5AM original comedy reruns of course where as they might have to pay to play any of the Toonami third party acquisitions then but they do have to pay for KotH at 5AM so maybe they could give Bleach and InuYasha that hour.

This would make Black Dynamite a Toonami show, which would be.....amusing. Outside of that, I can't see a compelling reason for this. There's no reason to go with one part of the programming over the other as opposed to them coexisting.

    Basically my thoughts right here.

The farthest I see Toonami ever expanding to is 11pm on Saturday nights and that is seven whole hours already.
