What do you think would happen if coyote caught the road runner?
Either A) Chuck Jones would roll over in his grave, or B) the universe would be swallowed up in a giant swirling vortex.
In the short "Soup Or Sonic" he actually did catch the Road Runner.
He didnt know what to do afterwards
That was because he had chased him through a long series of pipes and funnels which altered their sizes. When they came out of the last pipe, the Coyote was tiny, but the Road Runner was now giant-sized. He obviously couldn't eat the Road Runner now that he towered over him, so the frustrated Coyote holds up 2 signs to address the audience: "Okay, wise-guys. You always wanted me to catch him. Now what do I do??"
-Interestingly, back in the early 70's I used to see these novelty buttons and patches depicting the Coyote having finally caught the Road Runner; on them, the Coyote is clutching the Road Runner by the neck, with the caption, "Beep-Beep Ya (bleep)!"
While a bit crude, that button embodies the answer to the question posed: if the Coyote ever catches the Road Runner, then the Road Runner is lunch, which is why for the sake of keeping the series going he must never catch him.
Here's the thing though: Just because the Road Runner is caught dosen't mean the series is over. There's a difference in Wile E actually catching him, and actually getting away and cooking him. I mean Wile E has caught Bugs Bunny in a couple of cartoons and started preparing to eat him but Bugs tricked him and got away. So even if the Road Runner's caught that dosen't mean it's game over. Actually that would be an interesting cartoon: The Acme Trap actually succeeds and captures the Road Runner who spends the rest of the cartoon in the trap as Wile E prepares to cook him but the Roadrunner keeps messing with him. It'd be a good way to alter the formula. It'd make at least for a good short for The Looney Tunes Show anyway.
As for actually catching and eating the Road Runner well that would never happen. They should do a Family Guy joke with that though like they did with Elmer Fudd shooting and snapping Bugs Bunny's neck. Be good for a nice twist of a joke anyway.
Well, I guess they would have to settle down, get married and raise some kids.
(How predictable was that joke?)
Maybe, but usually all the cleverness is on the coyotes side, so it's hard to see him get out of things once he's been caught.
Their whole point is the hubris of being too clever by half, over thinking things and outsmarting yourself will lead to your downfall. Where as being simple can keep you free.
It's not like Bugs Bunny who can talk himself out of an oven and his antagonist into the oven.
Road Runner usually takes the bait, the trap doesn't spring, the coyote goes over to investigate and gets himself caught.
At best he will allow the coyote to follow him then stop so the coyote is standing in a bad place.
Very nice ideas guys I personalty think the roadrunner is going to get away no matter what because what is he going to do eat him it is a classic and a classic should live on
He's going to return the wallet the Road Runner dropped five years ago.
Road runner escape again sticking his tounge out to......
The time space continuum would collapse upon itself.
Coyote would eat him.
