I would say no on the opening, with the caveat that I'll be finding out about the presentation of a "normal" episode on Friday along with everyone else.

Yesterday's Jeopardy! had a category called "Robot Check-In", that had a clue referring to how the reboot was coming this year. They even showed a clip.

Nobody got it. Nobody even made an attempt.

Okay, so I binged it minutes after it went up. Delivery pizza, cheezybread, and Pepsi to keep me going or perk me up if it went bad. I needn't have bothered, I didn't need the pick-me-up. Reinvention successful for the most part.

    Negatives:
Coran bugged me at times, as did Lance. If it gets more episodes I'd like them to get some growth. I would have liked the Castle to do more as it spends most of its time weathering attacks. The Castle design is a little bland in ship mode too. The sense of scale gets so thrown off since it holds the lions but gets dwarfed by all the Galra ships.

    Positives:
Allura's redesign and character growth is phenomenal. The earlier comments, about making this the Voltron they remember versus what was actually there apply the most to her. Voltron: LD, as if sensing my disgust with VF, really knows how to throw down while leaving room for more challenging opponents and even greater powers to match(maybe my own bias but I think I heard one subtle jab at VF's design in Some Assembly Required).

Do I want more from this show and team? Heck yeah! :D

For the record this turns out to be happily false, Legendary Defender does get an opening eventually. No narration or an anime-type opening, it's a montage set to instrumental music. Think Green Lantern: The Animated Series except substantially longer. I like it.

For those interested to see that, do note that Netflix tends to automatically skip past such things if you're letting it run on autoplay.

Here's Voltron crossed with the DreamWorks TV logo (you can click to enlarge it):

I'm loving this series so far. One really nice thing that sticks out for me: good villains that know what their doing. The the best thing for me was when Pidge had his photo and my brain went 'click' oh you writers are clever. Also the mice rule.

I found new Coran to be rather insufferable.

What do you think of the way they're handling Hunk this time around?

All right, time for my rewatch. Gotta love how Voltron makes the outline of the DreamWorks Logo.

Our first two minutes: boring but important science. We humans haven't gone far. Awed speculation about this being a step toward meeting aliens. Be careful what you wish for.....

Shiro and the the scientists are caught. Shiro does his best to try diplomacy even when captured, our first sign he's smart and a genuinely good guy.

Next we have our trio of Lance, Pidge and Hunk on their simulation flight. Speaking of which....

Hunk's likable, but as noted in my review the stuff with his motion sickness comes up time and again in this adventure. In isolation maybe this wouldn't bother me, but think there's a bias toward making "the big guy" a joke or more of one than everyone else. Why go there?

To be fair, Lance doesn't exactly cover himself in glory. Pidge is the person holding it together the best and trying to be responsible.

The original Voltron was a big show when I was a kid. I was glued to the tv whenever it was on. If you don't know anything about it, you might want to look up GoLion too.

Hunk's kind of a prick. At least he's pretty smart.

Hopefully they find some other directions to take him over time. I'm sure they'll let him be the focus in some episodes.

VLF is really pretty. Great atmosphere. Can't wait for it to get to more action.
