Trigger is a Japanese animation studio founded by former Gainax employees Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Ohtsuka in 2011. HistoryIn 2013, Trigger produced the short film Little Witch Academia for the Young Animator Training Project's Anime Mirai 2013. Directed by Yos Yoshinari, the short first screened in 14 theaters in Japan on March 3, 2013 and was later released on Niconico and with English subtitles on Crunchyroll and YouTube, where it recieved more than 850,000 views. A second episode is currently in the making following a successful Kickstarter campaign to extend its running time that met its $150,000 goal in five hours and went on to raise $625,518. The same year, the studio's first original animated series Kill la Kill, directed by Imaishi, premiered in Japan on October 3. Trigger and Imaishi's other projects include the 2012 online animation series Inferno Cop and the opening title sequence for season two of the US TV series Black Dynamite for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
