Again, a match where I really like both shows, but if DBZ is making it to the final 4, the original Dragon Ball should as well.

Especially if it means that it can beat Z. :p

Well, when up against Samurai Jack, sure....I didn't realize we've got a bunch of Aku lovers around here.

Jack would never get back to the past, if you all had your way... ;)

I really love both shows, but I'll give my vote to Batman Beyond.

I'll go with Batman Beyond. It was a really good series and easily one of my favorite DCAU shows. I still haven't seen the original Dragonball and I don't have much desire to do so.

I'll give the edge to Dragon Ball here. I like Batman Beyond, but the quality was not consistent given how odd the tone of its second season felt, IMO. While I still have problems with the anime adaptation of Dragon Ball, I do still really enjoy it, and the Red Ribbon Army saga alone is one of my favorite arcs in any manga or anime.

    Dragon Ball.

My biggest problem with Z as an anime is the absolutely horrendous pacing, and loads of crap filler material. Dragon Ball had this problem to an extent, but DBZ took it way too far, IMO. Also, I do love the combination of humor and adventure from Dragon Ball.

Either way, though, I'd personally take the manga over either anime, any day.

Dragon Ball vs Dragon Ball. Funny how we're technically just pitting two halves of the same series against each other.

Anyway, I'm voting Dragon Ball Z, mainly because of nostalgia and because of the impact it had on my life. Yes, it's got some pretty bad pacing and filler (and I really didn't like some of the decisions made in the Buu saga), but it was gateway into action anime and it gave some of the greatest thrills I've ever had watching a TV show.

Also, I read the entire Dragon Ball manga not too long ago and, while the first the half is still very good in its own right, I think the "Z" portion is still the better story.

I personally think of the manga as one big series, myself, which technically it is. I love a lot of stuff in the later story arcs (you, even the much maligned Majin Buu arc has its moments, IMO), and feel that some people give it way too much flak when referring to it as a brainless action series since there is actually quite a bit of good story progression and character development from the Saiyan arc and onwards.

That said, the Cell and Buu arcs do have quite a few parts that drag for me, even in the much more condensed and concise pacing of the manga, and I really do enjoy the sense of humor present in the earlier arcs.

As a whole, though, it's easily one of my favorite Shonen Jump manga.

Okay, so I said that I consider DBZ to be most identifiable with Toonami, but I should backtrack and say that I feel this way with Goku in general. And there is no doubt in my mind that the original Dragon Ball is the better part of the franchise.

If Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and the 4 seasons of Sailor Moon were consider all one series then we really should have done the same for the two Dragonballs but too late now.... Anyway, since my favorite arcs in all of Dragon Ball are Namek/Freeza and Android/Cell then I will have to give the edge to DBZ.
