This is the voting thread for Round 1 of the Toonzone's "Battle of the Brackets" tournament (for the "Giant Robot" conference - which will focus mostly on Toonami sci-fi/futuristic type shows)!

Voting is simple: Just post which of the two contestants of the day you find to be more awesome! Please, no editing your posts, once your vote is cast, help simplify things for me and don't change it. So be sure you are certain which one you want to vote for when you post! Feel free to debate it amongst yourselves for a while before casting your votes, but remember: each match runs no more than 24 hours!

Astro Boy. The animation still holds up.

Tough battle here: a remake of a classic anime title or Turner's take of another classic anime?

I'll go with Astro Boy. I forget if I saw this on Toonami or on Kids' WB, but I remember liking it. It was pretty fun and the animation holds up really well if nothing else. I also never saw G Force. There were a few shows early on in Toonami's run that I never saw and G Force was one of them.

Astro Boy's my choice. A memorable classic.

I haven't watched much of either show, but I'll vote for Astro Boy. Both were pretty enjoyable from what I remember but Astro Boy is a classic.

Astro Boy: This was one of the last "new" anime to premiere during the weekday Toonami, before the switch to Saturdays in 2004, right? I never watched it back at the time, but the animation looks stunning...

G-Force: On one hand, I think this could be considered the first "Midnight Run exclusive!" (a show that aired on "Midnight Run" but not the weekday afternoon Toonami block. On the other hand, it was filler airing in the 3 am hour! This was the short lived Toonami Saturday night block, which ran from 12 midnight to 6 am (this version of the Midnight Run block only existed in late 1999/early 2000). Still, it made sense to add the 80's classic "G-Force", considering they were already airing "Robotech" and "Ronin Warriors", the other 80's anime classics...

Anyway, if there's no more votes, it's time to tally the votes...

Superman, it was a nice hero cartoon. And of course was a great part of the DCAU.

Gundam Wing is one of the few Gundam shows I have actually watched, and I liked it, but I'm voting for Superman since I enjoyed it a lot more. Being part of the DCAU also helps. :p

Superman: TAS. Arguably the best animated depiction of the hero ever.

Superman gets my vote. A pity, Gundam Wing was one of the few Gundam shows that would've gotten my vote otherwise.

I'm definitely voting for Superman. I don't recall if I did watch it on Toonami. I probably did, but I associate the show with Kids' WB more than Toonami. It was a really great show with good action and characters. It had some good moments and really did a good job with Superman's character in general. Plus, the show does hold some nostalgic value, along with some of the other DCAU series, since I'd often watch it after school.

I don't think that I ever saw Gundam Wing. I'm pretty sure that I saw the promo since a few of the scenes there looked familiar, but I'm positive that I never saw more than clips or promos for the series.

Superman: TAS gets my vote. A few other Gundam series would probably overtake it for me, but not Wing.
