This is the voting thread for Round 1 of the Toonzone's "Battle of the Brackets" tournament (for the "Dragon" conference - which will focus mostly on Toonami fantasy/supernatural/martial arts type shows)!

Voting is simple: Just post which of the two contestants of the day you find to be more awesome! Please, no editing your posts, once your vote is cast, help simplify things for me and don't change it. So be sure you are certain which one you want to vote for when you post! Feel free to debate it amongst yourselves for a while before casting your votes, but remember: each match runs no more than 24 hours!

Blue Dragon, even though I've only seen like two episodes. I never liked G.I. Joe; found it overrated.

I am going to say GI Joe, I had some good memories with that show and of course it has its cool villains.

Well I never liked Blue Dragon. I gave it a couple of episodes, but it didn't really click with me, especially with its humor. That being said, I'm pretty sure I never saw G.I. Joe at all. I wouldn't have been interested in something like that, so I'll give my vote to Blue Dragon since I saw a couple of episodes and remember a bit of the series.

I've never liked G.I. Joe. Blue Dragon at least has appealing visuals, so my vote goes to it.

    Well...

    1. When I set out to make the brackets, my initial thought was to start with having DBZ/Naruto material on one side, and Gundam material on the other side. That lead to a "Dragon" conference and a "Giant Robot" conference.

    2. As mentioned in the first post above, the Dragon conference will focus mostly on Toonami fantasy/supernatural/martial arts type shows. Some shows do not easily fall into either fantasy or sci-fi, or they have elements of both (is "Thundercats" Sci-Fi or Fantasy?). So sometimes it was just my best guess.

    3. GI Joe has ninjas. Really cool ninjas. So file that under "martial arts"...

I'll vote for G.I. Joe. For one thing, I've never seen Blue Dragon, but I have also enjoyed the episodes of G.I. Joe I did manage to watch.

In retrospect, this appears to be a battle between shows that served as harbingers for the "end times" for certain versions of Toonami.

    "Blue Dragon"
was the last anime that Toonami tried out, in those final few months before Toonami got cancelled in 2008. They only aired like 8 episodes. It looks like kind of a unique adventure anime, and it's got character designs by some guy known as Akira Toriyama...but it was "too little, too late", for anime on Toonami, by this point (unless you were an anime called "Naruto").

"GI Joe" was the last new cartoon brought to "The Midnight Run" before that block was cancelled in early 2003, to make away for "Monday thru Thursday Adult Swim". The thing was, when GI Joe was added in November 2002, you could tell the Midnight Run was winding down, and that they were gearing up for Adult Swim taking over. So this was kind of a nostalgic period, and it allowed us to revisit an 80's classic.

Anyway, it's time to tally the votes...

It started out close, but in the end, one contender pulled ahead...

    The Winner:

    G.I. Joe!

I'm guessing One Punch Man will probably win, but I never watched the show. I'll vote for Pokemon Chronicles even though I haven't seen much of it either.
