Episode 5.08: New World Order, pt. 1
Original Air Date: March 29, 2008
    Written by Danny Fingeroth

Previously on TMNT: The turtles begin preparing for the arrival of the Demon Shredder by enlisting the Justice Force to the cause. The Justice Force, itself in the middle of its own membership drive, adds Nobody, Raptarr, and, surprisingly, Nano, to their ranks.

This week on TMNT: After nine episodes of hints, threats, and warnings, the Shredder is finally ressurected. However, before he can truly begin his reign of terror, he's taking care of some "unfinished" business--specifically, a certain woman also calling herself the Shredder...

Aside from the fact that the bulk of this episode was just Shredder floating in the air and shooting green energy beams at everything, it was entertaining.

Chaplain looks older, he was redesigned, wasn't he? I don't remember but was he in Season 4 at all? I thought the last time we saw him was in the Season 3 finale.

I find it amusing that there's still that Foot van sitting outside April's apartment with nothing better to do than to listen if the Turtles return. God, those guys must be bored.

One problem with the two-parters of this show is the first part always drags a bit until we get to the second half, and this ep was no exception. Taking out the Foot forces one by one took a lot of time, and there wasn't any real fighting. Still, I wonder what would happen if the Utrom Shredder was here right now? Would he side with Karai to take out the original Shredder?

The episode was dragged out but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I couldn't help but feel some sadistic glee to see Karai's Foot getting owned by the demon Shredder. Fun fun! :)

Next week's episode looks epic! I can't wait to see this!

Finally: this two-parter is the high point of the fifth season--watching The Shredder fight the Shredder is ridiculously fun, and it gets a hundred times better next episode.

    Random thoughts:

I originally thought Chaplin had been recast, based on his different his voice sounds here; since learning that Regal can, when needed, do a pretty darn good Sisternlinkaas impression (which is who Chaplin's new voice reminds me of), I'm not so sure. Yes, CyberCubed, he was redesigned, quite heavily, too. Still, I'm glad to see it, and to see at something acknowledge that years have passed between episodes.

Why is One Piece's Vivi crying for help in TMNT? Oh, wait, it's just Karai.

Remember back in the first two seasons, when defeated Foot Ninja were inevitably shown moaning and trying to get up, so that we were damn sure that the turtles weren't killing anyone? I'm glad that doesn't happen any more, cause really, that scene with Flying Shredder just mowing down the Foot really wouldn't have worked if that were still the case.

Between the Shredder's recomposition and Sandman's origin over in Spectacular Spider-Man, it was a good week for transformation sequences. Very nice opening, and not something I would have ever expected to see in a Saturday morning cartoon.

Funny how the new/old Shredder gets more personality in five minutes than the acolytes got in five episodes. While this is mostly parlor trickery--the new/old Shredder wouldn't work if we didn't have the old/new Shredder to contrast him with--but it's interesting to see.

Speaking of the new/old Shredder's personality, I like how it bears little to no resemblance to the old/new Shredder and he's just doing his own thing. And it makes perfect sense that they would be different--the Utrom Shredder never had the luxury of raw power his predecessor enjoys, and the Demon Shredder had a need for subtlety (not that a guy with spiked armor is ever subtle, but you know what I mean). Still, this Shredder has nowhere near the staying power of the old/new one, and I'm glad he doesn't overstay his welcome.

I’ve heard speculation that this season had been operating under a smaller budget than usual; if true, you can certainly see some money-saving measures here. The Shredder and the Heralds barely move, and a good half-minute is taken by an unnecessary flashback.

Probably because 4Kids was putting more of their cash into Fast Forward, so Laird and his team finished the Ninja Tribunal eps on their own.

Yeah i think it would've been better if Karai said "now I won't reveal your relationship with that hooker"

That mayor looks like the kind who would spend the city budget at the horse races. :p

Or on getting elected in the first place :p

Karai should run for mayor herself, it'd be cheaper hehehe.
