The German country band Texas Lightning, known for their cover of Like A Virgin, are going to the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens with their song No No Never.

I've just been picking up mostly old stuff this month:
Husker Du - New Day Rising
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (deluxe edition)
Crazy Baldhead - Has a Posse
    Atmosphere - Lucy Ford EPs
Descendents - Cool to be You

New stuff I got this month:
Streetlight Manifesto - Keasbey Nights: Kind of an unnecessary re-recording of the Catch 22 album that came out in 97 or 98. It's good for what it is, but I was hoping they'd change things up and alter the song structures a bit to better suit Streetlight's superior horn section.

Matisyahu - Youth: Kinda picked this up on a whim in the record store when the guy who worked there told me it came with a dub EP and a 7" of "King Without a Crown." I like the dub Ep better than the actual album. Matis' songs just drag on too long, and I've never been a big fan of guitar solos in reggae. It's not a horrible album, it's just kind of bleh. It's not something I'm gonna be listening to over and over again.

Today I found out that Del tha Funkee Homosapien and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are both gonna be playing free concerts at my school next month, so that's pretty awesome, and the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album coming out in a few weeks has me excited too.

Here are the results of The Danish Music Awards 2006:

The Finnish heavy rock band Lordi are going to Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with their song Hard Rock Hallejujah:

    http://www.soult.com/eurovision/2006/finland.shtml

This just came in from the Serbian Montenegro National Final:

"As soon as the juries gave their votes and it appeared No Name was the winner, the audience left the venue immediately, while some stayed inside to throw bottles on the stage. Suprisingly, No Name left right away, while the Serbian favourites, Flamingos featuring Luis, gave a reprise of their song, Ludi letnji ples. No Name received 8 points from the televoters, the Flamingos featuring Luis 12."

It's not really coming along until I get a little more comfortable with singing (i.e. not sound so bored) and maybe learn a 7th chord.

I so bought a 30 Seconds to Mars ticket for St. Patrick's Day. Not even 20 bucks. From what I've heard, I should be feeling like I should've paid more by the end of the show.

So, I got "Remain In Light" by The Talking Heads the other day.

    And some other stuff.

But the other stuff isn't really important.

Because almost all I've been listening to is "Remain In Light."

    What an AMAZING album.

A fairly big haul for me today.

First off, I picked up replacement copies of Use Your Illusion I and Jerry Cantrell's Degradation Trip Vol 1 & 2, since the condition of my older copies had deteriorated over the years.

As far as new finds are concerned, I scooped up Portishead's Dummy, and good ol' EC's My Flame Burns Blue. The initial spins of both have brought much joy to me thus far. ^^

-Also Jin will be featured in a video game.

Now it's official that Serbia & Montenegro withdraws from the Eurovision Song Contest!

From the "All Kinds Of Everything" website:

"Apparently, the story has caused more reaction in Serbia than that the death of former Prime Minister Slobodan Milosevic and a meeting on Sunday between the Serbian and Montenegrin broadcasters failed to resolve the dispute. Serbian television is apparently trying to change the rules of the selection after the result, by disqualifying all the jury scores, which would leave only the public televote which was won by Flamingosi. However given that the population of Serbia is several times that of Montenegro and that Montenegrin television went to a news broadcast rather than reprising the songs for televoters, this is hardly the basis for a fair result."

    Heh.

Here is Gnarls Barkely( DJ Dangermouse and Cee-lo) doing their Clockwork Orange impersonation. Needless to say, I'll now pay more attention as to when St. Elsewhere comes out.

I caught Dream Theater on their 20th anniversary tour this past weekend (San Francisco show). It was phenomenal (the song "Octavarium" was especially cool -- they put together an animated montage for it).

I saw Wilco last night and they were pretty much the best band ever.

The night before, I saw The New Pornographers and Belle & Sebastian. Both were incredible.

Saturday, I'm going to see Of Montreal.

Monday is Ted Leo & The Pharmacists day.

    Woo!

You suck. I wish Ted Leo knew where Utah is... or anyone cool knew where Utah is for that matter... and those sentence fragments don't seem grammatically correct...

For no good reason, I went and saw Anti-Flag and The Casualties and The Unseen and all the crazy drunken, violent punkers that tend to flock to their shows, and it was a pretty cool show, i guess. The first band, The A.K.A.s were surprisingly good, though. They sound a lot like The (International) Noise Conspiracy, and their CD was only 5 bucks! I recommend you check them out.
