Just saw this over at tvshowsondvd.com.

    http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Real-Ghostbusters-Ghostbusters-Rumor/9505

Interesting. It could just be false info, but tvshowsondvd.com seem to have had a pretty good track record with this kind of stuff over the years, so I really hope this release finally pans out.

Mod Note: Thread altered to official talkback upon product release.

It's not false in that a DVD may or may not be coming out. That particular site is careful to make sure they don't post any particularly misleading information, which is great since they understand what it feels like to get your hopes up over a long unsees TV show only to discover i was just a rumor (it's for this reason that they don't participate in April Fool's).

Yeah, that's why I said they're always pretty good about that kind of stuff. I go there all the time for TV-on-DVD news. Great site. :)

I wonder if Shout Factory's the one who obtained the rights, since they've been handling most of the DIC properties in recent years.

I know it comes from Wikipedia, but a blurb there states that slashform.net (won't load for me) has announced that Sony has "big" news about the Ghostbusters franchise planned for ComiCon this summer, and that a convention program shows the Ghostbusters logo with the slogan "Something exciting is coming to the neighborhood."

Could Sony have finally wised up about Real Ghostbusters on DVD?

Wow, Sony actually allowing boxsets of their cartoon licenses to be released (not counting that one Astro Boy set)? After their whole "NO ONE WOULD EVER BUY A BOXSET OF CARTOONS MEANT FOR KIDS" line, I never thought I'd see the day.

But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it is Shout Factory releasing this. They've been awesome so far bringing DiC shows to DVD (hopefully this one is popular enough to get more than just one volume).

The rumor says we may get the Blu-ray movie and the new video game sometime in autumn this year. And now, a multi-disc set for the animated series has been announced for fall release.

Yes, 2008 will be an interesting year for Ghostbusters.

Now all we need is for a new animated series to be announced. :p

(Hey, if Earthworm Jim is getting a new animated series along with a movie and a new game, why can't Ghostbusters?)

There may just be justice in the animation world now.

Not if it's another Extreme Ghostbusters affair.

I'm dying to see some of these episodes again. The two eps on the Ghostbusters movie 2-pack just aren't enough.

Incidentally, I was going through some old boxes the last time I was back home at Christmas, and found some VHSes. One of them, in my childish handwriting, said "Ghostbusters, Square One, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers." That VHS was like the Holy Grail of my childhood television experience.

I immediately popped it into a tape player and discovered it had been recorded over with two episodes of Deep Space Nine.

I've never hated being a Trekkie before.

    Extreme Ghostbusters was decent.

Crud! I woulda liked seeing that tape too!

I had Square One on tapes as well once; then I decided I was over it and taped over them, and now I regret it.

ever since this "announcement" i've taken a look at episode guides for the real ghostbusters and slimer and the real ghostbusters.

    http://www.pazsaz.com/gbusters.html
    http://www.pazsaz.com/slimer.html

i'm wondering how the seasons are going to get released. i guess they can put two seasons of the real ghostbusters in one set and release it as a "volume" instead of a "season". i'm wondering what they're going to do with season 2a. how many discs are needed for 65 episodes? i also hope they do a seperate release for the slimer cartoons. i don't want it packed in with a real ghostbusters release because i feel they are two completely different shows. i don't think i'd even watch the slimer cartoons. i would buy it to complete the series on dvd, but it gather dust real fast.

i wouldn't mind extreme ghostbusters on dvd either.

Perhaps do like B:TAS. Just split the episodes up as evenly as possible and release it as a series of volumes instead of seasons.

You know, I've been thinking of this, and I thought of an effective way to put the entire series out in six volumes as evenly as possible:

Volume 1: 26 episodes, containing all of season 1 and the first 1/5th of season 2
Volume 2: 26 episodes, containing the next 2/5ths of season 2
Volume 3: 26 episodes, containing the rest of season 2
    Volume 4: 22 episodes, containing all of season's 3 & 4
Volume 5: 20 episodes, containing all of season 5
    Volume 6: 20 episodes, containing all of seasons 6 & 7

    There, easy.

There's also a half-hour documentary on the development of the series that was made at the time, and it even features Dan Aykroyd. I saw it once on Youtube. Would be great to see that included.

Does that include the Slimer! shorts? Horrible or not, I'd still love to have them just for completion's sake.

Yes, of course. Why exclude them?
