I've decided to make this all-encompassing PSN discussion thread, since I just found out:

Resident Evil Director's Cut is now available for download.

Not so good for me, since I already have that edition, but wow, still great news. I wonder if they'll upload 2 & 3, freeing them from their eternal $30 torment on the Gamecube.

Who knows? Maybe someday they'll upload the original 1996 version of Resident Evil (i.e., the original version that was released as a first (second?) generation Playstation game)...

Personally, I wonder if they will ever have the original Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. You see, I had just realized that the "Wii-make" is to that game what Super Mario All-Stars was to the original NES versions of those games. So would defintely get that if they offered it, even though I have the Wii version.

Say, does anyone think they might offer titles that were previously Japan-only (like the Virtual Console does on occasion), or is Sony dead set against that?

Street Fighter Alpha 2 was just announced via Twitter.

I actually remember owning this game...for the Super Nintendo. The funny thing was the loads/delays. Every time a round would begin, there would be like a one or two-second delay (maybe a little bit longer) after "FIGHT!" was screamed. Either way, I still loved it and it was my favorite SF game until Alpha 3 came out. I also loved Rolento in Alpha 2 and thought he was easier to control in that game.

Just going to mention FFVII as a matter of principle, but also:

Wolfenstein 3D and Street Fighter Alpha 2 are now available.

    The PSOne Classics Thread

Similar to the Virtual Console thread, this thread is for announcing new PS1 games that can be downloaded for PS3 via the PSN Store.

Here's a list of what's available so far. Looks like the latest U.S. release is Cool Boarders 3 (released on 9/3/09), which I already own in CD form so I'll be passing on that. I may eventually get Tomb Raider 1, though (released last month), seeing as how the disc version doesn't seem to work on the PS3 Slim.

I'm also interested in MediEvil, which I neglected to buy when it was new.

If you guys haven't played Jumping Flash, I highly recommend it. The sequel is pretty good too.

Two of my favorite PS1 games. A first person platformer? Who'd a thunk it? :D

It's on my wish list. I haven't played Jumping Flash 1 or 2, but I've always wanted to ever since seeing that trailer on the PS1 Interactive CD Sampler 3.5.

BTW, I definitely love the price of most of these PS1 games. $5.99? Sure beats the $10 you pay for an N64 game on Virtual Console.

I have a question. Last week, Fate/Unlimited Codes, the PSP fighter based on the popular visual novel-turned-anime-powerhouse, hit PSN last Thursday for $29.99. Only two press scores have been released- IGN with an 8.2 and GamePro with a 3/5. Has anyone tried it out yet? Because I've been thinking about getting it after AWA and there's no demo version yet. I want to know if anyone has played it and liked it before dropping the cash into my account.

Also, Brave Story: New Traveler is the number 1 PSP item on the PSN (and that includes full PSP games, PSN-exclusives, and PSone games). Is that any good?

I missed out on Katamari on the PS2, looking forward to getting it off the store.

Is there anything new on the PSOne front today? PSOne games tend to be released on a Thursday, if the last few months is any indication for precedent.

And a side question: Is there a website, similar to GoNintendo or VC Reviews, that readily tracks new games made available on the PSN?

We'll learn about that and all other PSN updates at around 3-5 pm ET. All PSN updates (PSone games, downloadable games, Rock Band songs, map packs, PSP games, etc) occur on Thursday and has been for a good long time. The only PS Store section that is updated daily (I think) is the video store with movies and tv shows.

Well, there is the Playstation Blog, the official mouthpiece of Sony. It's not like GoNintendo, but it is similar to Major Nelson's blog in terms of being inside and provide details of the monolithic company.

Ah, cool. Thank you for the info on both accounts. I'm new to the PS3 so I didn't know the exact time of day these announcements are usually made.

Also another blog to check out is Joystiq [Playstation] (formerly the blogs PS3 Fanboy and PSP Fanboy). They do great updates and also supply the info on both US and European PS Stores.

Also, update time. Big downloadable game is Turtles In Time Re-Shelled. PSone games are the original Legacy of Kain, Syphon Filter 2, and Silent Hill. Game add-ons include High Velocity Bowling (PSN title), Ultimate Alliance 2, Red Faction, Tiger Woods PGA 10, UFC 2009, the usual music games, and PAIN (another PSN title) - who decided to include George Takei, fresh from his new movie Kate Is Enough. Wipeout Pulse and Wild Arms XF join the PSP download list. Demos are Katamari Forever and Clone Wars: Republic Heroes for the PS3 and Half-Minute Hero on PSP.

I am going to hold off on the Juggernaut download until I beat Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 at least once. I have a feeling that either there is a way to unlock him in the game, or that he is going to be part of collector's edition release a year from now.

I also noticed. Gettin' it now as well. Which they also added Katamari Forever, that rolling ball type of game.

Hope they come with MUA 2 or FFXIII as well.

Soon there could be porn on it (360 too), if Vivid Entertainment gets its way.

    http://kotaku.com/5354956/adult-films-push-for-presence-on-gaming-consoles

They already have it in Japan.

Seriously, the Japanese PSN store has a lot more features than ours, and it's not just pornography. :) The Japanese PSX selection makes the US one look sickly. I just can't see a good reason for that.

The last line, where the Vivid guy is saying they aren't pushing to get on the Wii because it "skews a little young" is funny. Yeah, the Wii doesn't even have the capability to download HD movies, but there is porn capability on it because it has a Web browser. There's porn on the PS3, too, because of its Web browser. The only porn-free current console is the 360.

They already have it in Japan? They would. Want to know what some of the top downloads on the 360 are over there? Dating sim games, supposedly. Hilarious. Sad too, but oh well.

But yeah, Japanese backward compatability is so much better than ours. More PSOne games, more virtual console games...alas.

I noticed a Little Big Planet demo. Definitely going to try that.
