Okay let me tell you why I loved this movie. :D
The story was very mysterious, and the way Eisenheim performed magic made me think that his powers were a gift from God.
The movie was also romantic, Eisenheim loved his childhood friend Sophie whom was the daughter of duchess, (I think) Because she was on a higher social status then him they could not be together.
They meet later in life and fall in love all over again.
There is of course the evil prince who tries to spoil everything!
The ending was a bit confusing, because the movie starts with the ending and then the narrator tells the whole in between story...
There are other movies that start like that too. I just can't think of any right now.

I thought it was really good as well.

Except for the predeictable ending. I can't really call it a twist because I saw it coming a mile away.

After they slept together, Sophie told Esienheim that if they left, the prince would hunt them down and kill them.

And then the next day she goes and bascily confronts him and tells him she is leaving him. She knew he would kill her, so for her to confront him like that makes it abundantly clear that the scene is rigged.

Add into that the unseen death, and I knew she wasn't really dead.

And while they gave a pausable excuss for orange tree, I still don't see how he could have pulled off most of those stunts without the aid of real magic. Like the excalibur trick, How the hell did he pull that off?
