Boy, do I ever have an entry today. Good. GRAVY.

Comics.org just put up a bunch of old underground comic covers today and BOY ARE THEY UGGG-LEEEEE!

I don't know much about the underground movement, but gah, the way some of these characters are designed, they could crack mirrors! DON'T click that one. It's a duck, but it's the worst drawing of a duck you will ever see.
    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/14690/400/14690_4_001.jpg

Don't click this one either. Picasso created women more realistic in his later life.
    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/14683/400/14683_4_001.jpg

YIKES! Hippies thought this was attractive??
    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/14679/400/14679_4_001.jpg

And this last one is a "serious" comic about a debate still raging today, but that doesn't make it any less ugly than the others. I think the artist was either drunk, high or both. Actually, that explains all of these, so I'm gonna go with that.

Today: You've seen the Richie Rich ripoff on Page 1, now see the Casper ripoff on page 5!

Unless your screenname is MonkeyFunk, you agree that's one unpleasant-looking spectre.

Look closely at the signature. Yes - John Byrne, ladies and gentlemen!

Not THAT John Byrne, obviously. Just another clone from the bizarro universe of British comics, like black-hair Dennis the Menace.

Yeah, CBR doesn't allow remote linking. Otherwise we wouldn't need comics.org, we could just take them all from the wondrous treasure trove of Scott Shaw's Oddball Comics column. I assume from the address Monkey Funk was trying to link to one of those. MonkeyFunk, Could you provide a link to to column?

Here's a link to one of my favorite Oddball comics. Be sure to read the comments, or at least the stuff about it being the most unintentionally gay comic ever produced, priceless pictures there.

Ah-Ha. I had tried to search CBR for which comic MonkeyFunk was trying to find but the search function wasn't working. It is now.

    Here's the Oddball column

    and from comics.org

Yeah... keep them chipmunks away from me.

And as I look through the other Dell Four Color covers I wonder, could the Three Stooges really translate to comics?

    More Four Color Fun!:

    "Yogi Bear Visits the U.N.":

What pic-a-nic-basket filching bears have to do with the United Nations, I have no idea. But nice photo-background cover....

    Christmas comic:
    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/279/400/279_4_00666.jpg

Ah, such a nice, heartwarming Christmas related comic. Too bad about the, erm, issue number it has. ;-p

    A Disney comic:
    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/279/400/279_4_00586.jpg

Geez, Grandma Duck sure looks like she's enjoying her food there. Guess the byproduct of having Gus Goose as a farmhand...

    Felix the Cat:

Ah, ethnic stereotypes are so much fun... (pauses before flushing the comic-featuring-Blacks-that-looks-nothing-like-Brainatra down the toilet ;-p ).

Re: that fishing/tuna comic above: Was going to post something about blindly labelling something as "gay" *as* someone who's gay, but... yeah, I got a "something besides fishing's going on here" vibe myself. ;-)

Comics.org has been down for a while, but now it's back....and so's the topic!

And if you think THAT'S interesting.....

Given that this is an Al Hartley comic from the Spire years, I doubt this is exaaaactly what it looks like it is.....which begs the question, why would you WANT it to look like that?

To connect better with Germans, Archie changed his name to make it sound more like the noise a cat makes when it coughs up a hairball.

Boy, is THAT rude. It took over 60 years for Superman and Lois to finally marry; who does this jerk think he is? You'd also assume Lois would be used to this kind of thing by now, though. She actually looks surprised this is happening.

......So.....why hasn't Superman busted through the ropes yet, like he should obviously be capable of? Is he enjoying this? Eww....
