This one isn't at comics.org yet but everytime I see a discussion of bad covers I feel compelled to bring this one up.

The character is Khatera, only ever used in the Batman mini-series Batman: The Ankh.
Aside from her immortality, her breasts also apparently gained the ability to defy gravity (but not her hair)... I wonder if she could fly with them:D

"WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT MY MOTHER?" has to be one of the best cover lines ever. I wish I were seeing it on a more serious cover, for an actual superhero....which would make it even better.

I don't know what "Dakota North" is (it's from 1986), but with covers like this, how could it lose? Remember that this is still the time of cheesy exposition-filled covers...things like this might be typical today, but not then.

    Howdy,

Well, apparently, it lost pretty big. Dakota North was a P.I. character created by a Martha Thomases who got a 5-issue series before cancellation. Apparently, she's showed up periodically in other MU titles since then. The site I linked to states that she's more Charlie's Angels than Ms. Tree, but I bet she's just waiting for a Brian Michael Bendis to rediscover her and make her the new hotness centerpiece female character in the MU, just like BMB did with Jessica Jones and Spider-Woman.

Issue #4 is quite the excellent specimen of the female bondage cover, BTW.

We know about that already; I think that was mentioned on the first page.

Anyway, on to today's cover pic:

I saw "Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommandos" listed on a comic book order form in an issue made around the time this was, and I thought "did they actually come out with that or is that listing a mistake?" Because they sometimes mistakenly listed titles that were already canceled before they began. But no, there he is....Chuck Norris in all his radicalness.

I remember that I loved this TV series when it was on. Don't remember the episodes too well anymore though. This must have been put out at some point at the beginning of the 2nd season, right before the show was cancelled. I'm pretty sure there were only two issues of the comic published, found a copy of #1 for 25 cents a few months ago.

I love the caption in the box. I like how Marvel didn't seem to mind self-mocking.

Dakota North seems like some kind of She Fury.

Chuck Norris...Sledge Hammer? Man, they give comics to anyone...

Oh, and while we're on the subject of weird Spider-Man guest spots:

[IMG]There's nothing special about the main cover; this was obviously picked today for the inset drawing. :D

Today: old "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen" comics!

    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1027/400/1027_4_053.jpg

The famed "Turtle Boy" Olsen story...

    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1027/400/1027_4_079.jpg

Jimmy as the "red-headed Beatle of 1000 BC". :)

    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1027/400/1027_4_118.jpg

"Hippie Olsen's Hate-In". Yep, those middle-aged writers at DC sure were in tune with the youth movement of the day. ;-)

    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1027/400/1027_4_162.jpg

A nice gag /take off on the old "Superman changes in a phone booth" bit.

    http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1027/400/1027_4_163.jpg

The last issue of the series, just before it gets folded into "Superman Family" anthology...

It's nice to see women getting work in the closed-minded postwar era, but not when the results are like this.
