It can be frustrating when any show, or movie franchise for that matter, gets cancelled before specific story arcs are completed.

Whether you like Spider-Man Unlimited or not, it had/has its fans and it's annoying that the story it was trying to tell never got resolved. The same can definately be said about Silver Surfer, that series end up with the Surfer possibly being destroyed by Thanos.

I think at the time it was worse because Marvel were quite big with their ongoing stories. Many 80s cartoons were cancelled but it didn't seem too bad because they were often 'stories of the week'. Dungeons and Dragons would be similar, technically the kids didn't get home. Although their fate was shown in The Girl who Dreamed Tomorrow.

I'm eagerly awaiting its DVD release in the UK, hopefully it'll come out after Spider-Man: TAS has finished. Was it great? No. Was it good? I think so.

I remember when this show was on tv. They did air the episode that concluded the series. They only showed it once and it wasn't aired until months after it was cancelled. I am hoping to fin the episode but no one seems to know it existed.

I remember in the episode then symbiotes are taken care of, the world is freed, and spiderman returns to earth but john stays.

Dude, I don't know what you saw, but no one ever watched Spider-Man Unlimited's season 2 nor finale (which was set to be on episode 26), not even it's creators since it was never animated.

All that Larry Brody had published on his site on November 24th, 2016 (almost 16 years after the show got canceled) were the basic plots/synopsis for Spider-Man Unlimited season two (5 episodes and the general tone of episodes 19-26):

    14. DESTINY UNLEASHED PART 2

With the help of the GOBLIN (and a minor assist from VULTURE) SPIDEY and the REBELS keep the SYNOPTIC from succeeding. When the “smoke clears” the good news is that the HIGH EVOLUTIONARY and SIR RAM have been soundly defeated and the KNIGHTS OF WUNDAGOR scattered. The bad news is that VENOM and CARNAGE, although out of the picture for now, have merged into the awesome villain known as KING CARNAGE! (in November 28th of 2016 he posted the full script for this episode)

    15. CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE?

SPIDEY and the rest of the inhabitants of Counter-Earth must now deal with the results of what happened last episode: A “Newer World Order.” JAMESON and the rebels work with LORD TYGER to form a just and representative government for Beastials and humans alike, and GOBLIN comes home to NAOKO and SHAYNE. Always able to make the worst of any situation, PETER feels more lost and alone than ever but doesn’t have much time to think about it as he does some good old-fashioned sleuthing to find the culprit behind a series of daring robberies—and discovers that the villain is not one but three BLACK CATS—Beastial Siamese cat sisters who are beautiful, charming—and deadly.

    16. NIGHTWALKER

To JAMESON’S dismay, SPIDEY and KAREN grow closer as she becomes the humans’ best liason with LORD TYGER’S government. In Washington D.C., Spidey swings into action when a secret assassin starts taking out the REBELS one by one, with Karen’s turn next. Who is the NIGHTWALKER? An angry Beastial? A former KNIGHT OF WUNDAGOR? Or is it a jealous Jameson? An embittered BROMLEY? Spidey has to find out in order to save Karen’s life!

    17. MODEL BEHAVIOR

To cash in on the new social situation, a BEASTIAL MOVIE PRODUCER offers SPIDEY a deal to star in a Human Exploitation Film. PETER’S reluctant—until he discovers that Counter-Earth’s version of MARY JANE is one of the actresses vying to be his co-star. Spidey’s Hollywood advernture turns deadly, however, when he finds out just how this Mary Jane got her good looks…and has to face her “creator,” SCRAMBLE, a Beastial with the power to control—and instantly morph—any living flesh that he touches…or that touches him.

    18. SOJOURN

The Synoptic’s powerful new entity, KING CARNAGE, returns. Although torn by true inner conflict (between the human sides of his Venom & Carnage components), he pulls himself together, searching for the Interdimensional Portal that originally brought the High Evolutionary to Counter-Earth, in order to use it to expand the Synoptic. When GOBLIN is injured trying to stop the monster symbiote, SPIDEY swings into action, hoping to use the Portal to return to Earth and the real Mary Jane. In an ironic twist, Spidey does indeed find and use the Portal—but with him is a stowaway—JAMESON. And in a final crisis, it’s JAMESON who ends up on Earth, with Spidey back with the Beastials once more.

OVERALL ARC FOR THE REST OF SEASON 2

    19. Thru 24. Spidey will continue to deal with both the issues of Counter-Earth’s new society and various mysteries and super-villains, both human and Beastial as he goes on a last-ditch hunt for the remaining spaceship that may be able to bring him back home. Episodes alternate between New York and his altered relationship with Naoko, Shayne, and Goblin, and his travels around this new planet, where he encounters Lady Ursula (now the head of the Russian black market), Electro (who has set up his own little kingdom not unlike Latveria), the Counter-Earth Panther (while searching through the jungles of Wakanda), the Black Cats, and others. In the end, however, societal concerns come to the fore as, just when things are looking brightest for Beastial-Human relations, the High Evolutionary and Sir Ram return, angrier and more powerful than ever. In a butt-kicking two-part finale, Spidey rises out of the ashes of agonizing defeat and sends both of them packing forever, and—at last!—rockets his way home to those he has missed for so long! FADE OUT?

So, from what I recall, Marvel had planned to end the series with Season 5. However, they had a deal with Fox Kids that they had to provide content and Fox Kids wanted Spider-Man on the airwaves. The original plan was to do an origin story. This was right around the same time that Marvel made a deal with Sony for the Spider-Man rights and a mandate was passed down indicating that they could not use any of the traditional villains or supporting cast. As a result, the team had to come up with an alternative and that's when they developed the Counter-Earth story line, as it isolated Spidey and kept him from running into his typical friends and foes. Here's a link to one of the first story proposals sent to Marvel.

The complete series for Unlimited was released over in the UK under the Jetix label, but it was largely a bare bones release. I don't think anything was ever completed for any Season 2 animation, as Season 1 was pulled off the schedule fairly early in it's run, largely due to the success Digimon and their competition to keep up with Kids WB. Off-hand, there were quite a few shows that met a similar fate on Fox around this time frame (Xyber 9 and Avengers both come to mind).

The only thing I wish Disney will order their Marvel Animation department is to finish BOTH Spider-Man: TAS (season 6) and Spider-Man Unlimited (season 2), if they wish to make their profit all they have to do is produce these seasons in DVD or Blu Ray formats and to set a decent price for each.

Edit: If they'll add an animation adaptation to all last 3 comic books based upon Spider-Man Unlimited (volume 2, issues 3-5) as episodes between the current 8th and 9th episodes it'll make this show perfect IMHO. The only slight changes I ask of them are: 1) not to make the Brute Reed Richards nor having any Counter-Earth exact copies of the Fantastic Four, it's a whole different planet SET ON THE OTHER SIDE OF OUR SUN with only the same biological evolution as on our Earth (excluding the High Evolutionary's Beastials), NOT A PARALLEL UNIVERSE/TIMELINE VERSION OF EARTH!!! Name him otherwise (even Rick Richards will do the trick) and design him otherwise, same goes for all the listed above.
    2) Have a different conversation with the Goblin once adapting the 4th issue, he must not know Spidey is an alien to Counter-Earth till the 9th episode, they can chat about whatever but not about this subject.
    3) The Wolvernine can't be Naoko's husband (whose name is Hector as he's allegedly "Latino", not Edwin the WASP), the Wolverine could easily be turned into Hector's younger brother who used to live at Naoko's house where Peter currently stays while he was preparing to serve in the High Evolutionary's Honorary Guard/Corps (or something of that sort, as there is NO NEED for Counter-Earth to have an "America" for him to serve in it's army, he was just trying to prove his worthyness to the ruler to upgrade his and his family's social rank). After enlisting, he was then taken to the Testing Zone 7 where the dear "creator" chose to conduct an experiment on him and turned him into a mutated Beastial, he only followed Spidey due to the scent of his former residence.
