Since Transformers: The Last Knight flopped so poorly this Summer, the Transformers writers room has disbanded. Michael Bay and the writers involved with the past five movies are no longer part of the creative process.

The Bumblebee prequel will still happen, however, under a different team.

Bay is also still a producer on the Bumblebee movie.

Maybe we should change the title of this thread.

Five bucks it won't be as good as the 80's version for various reasons. But at least it will be animated Transformers in theaters.

That's subjective, of course. The 80s series bored me to death with all those stupid robot wars :D

If this film has more to offer than "pewpewpew kaboom oh no someone goes off-line but I forgot his name", then I'm all for it! Especially if they will focus on one character. (Bumblebee)

Well, it's true the first Transformers TV series was pretty long and in some ways repetetively boring. But the 80s feature film, which filled a gap between seasons, made up for it I'd say. Very iconic and to the point. From lines and story to animation and music. Generation 1 as a whole made a huge cultural impact similarly to the 80s Ninja Turtles. This new animated film I doubt will have as big of a soul, nor look as intense. But we'll see. Depends on who it will focus on and how it will connect with the upcoming animated show.

It's kind of hard for me to care much at this point. I had big hopes for years and they were kind of crushed by the time the end credits of Revenge of the Fallen rolled. Maybe they can try some kind of new animated Beast Wars to win me back .

Bumblebee hasn't caught my interest yet.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the animated film. I wish it was a standalone rather than part of the Transformers cinematic universe, but on the bright side...theoretically, no human characters.

Nah, let's keep it as it is since this refers to the franchise's era of him being director.

Human characters are part and parcel of this franchise (Beast Wars and Beast Machines aside). They're not going anywhere.

Overall, I'm kind of mixed on this news. I actually enjoy most of the films and will miss some of the "Bayisms" that have come to define the franchise. With that said, I do feel like some new blood could do some good for the franchise (and there was something about The Last Knight that gave me the feeling that Bay is fatigued from a decade of directing these films). Best of luck to the old production crew wherever its members go, and best of luck to the new guys.

I don't like the Bay movie designs but if they clean them up for the animated movie it might actually be its saving grace.

Thank goodness Travis Knight is still directing Bumblebee!

Knowing the last few movies reception of course this move had only happened based on the reception on the box office.

I haven't seen a TF movie since the first, and have been waiting for the Bay era to end. Not sure I'll believe it until it happens. But, boy, I look forward to some day watching a TF movie without Bay's involvement.
