#76 "The Thing / Hocus Pocus"

The Thing - Squidward gets covered in cement and becomes SpongeBob and Patick's pet.

Hocus Pocus - SpongeBob believes that he magically turned Squidward into ice-cream.

I missed the Spongebob/Squidward/Patrick trio episodes. The closest thing we got before The Thing was Wishing You well.

Hocus Pocus was funny. Sponge seems to get more neurotic with every passing season.

He's still carefree, but he still gets unsure of himself a lot.

Hocus Pocus started off rather weak and then built to a very satisfying climax. The set-up with the magic kit seems to be an odd Harry Potter homage, but the Squidward ice cream part of the story was hilarious.

The Thing started out incredibly strong but lost it's way when Squidward was hauled off the zoo, prompting Sponge and Patrick to break him out. Thankfully, the ending was spot on. I definitely prefer this one to Hocus Pocus, mainly for the terrific design on "Smelly".

It feels kinda weird. A ton of never before seen episodes were released on the Season 4, vl 2 DVD release a few weeks back so it seems bizarre that I've already seen what'll probably be a good half year of Nick Spongebob premieres.

    Oh well.

Both eps were pretty good overall but had very weak endings IMO. Particularly Hocus Pocus. Patrick asks Spongebob to turn him into a jar of mayonnaise so he can eat himself. And then we see a jar of mayonnaise. The end. WTF???

I realize that endings are probably the hardest things to write, but after seeing the two new eps, I think the Spongebob gang needs to try a little harder...
