That was all spin. If anyone seriously believes Wacker is the reason there's no X-Men in the cartoons, I have some magic beans I'd like to sell you. There's no X-Men in the cartoons because of a borderline company-wide push to eradicate the X-Men, which has been going on for a few years at this point (see the current controversy about the X-Men not being in Marvel vs. Capcom). "I don't like the X-Men" was just him falling on his sword or possibly being sarcastic.

I believe it was on his Tumblr page. Someone asked him about the mysterious absence of X-Men characters in the cartoons, and Wacker gave a snarky response about how he never liked the X-Men and always thought the Teen Titans were way cooler when he was a kid.

The Xmen are probably his favorite characters, he just thinks people are gullible enough to believe he is the sole reason for the Xmen ban. He is just following orders from above.

Anyway, good riddance Mr. Wacker. I doubt much will change with him gone.

That would great as some Netflix exclusive. But I think Disney XD is predominantly team-based when it comes to Marvel shows.

I'm almost expecting an Avengers Academy animated series.

They already did. It was called "Ultimate Spider-Man."

Actually, if Wacker really thinks it will "break the Internet" - What if the new animated series is Avengers: A-Force?

An all-women Avengers team. Maybe the fact that half of the current Avengers roster in Secret Wars are female are setting it up?

Additionally, A-Force was formed as a result of certain events from Secret Wars. :)

An A-Force cartoon would be really cool, and could be Marvel's equivalent to DC Super Hero Girls if handled well, though I can't say I find the idea of a cartoon based around a non-movie property very likely unfortunately :ack:.

With Ultimate Spiderman canceled and Guardians of the Galaxy set in a different timeframe from Avengers Assemble is there really a point to Marvel having an animation head when nothing is connected.

I think as head of animation he does more then just keeping things "connected," which if that was solely his job he's kind of done a pretty bad job overall given all the continuity and character inconsistencies .

I think the head of animation approves all the projects and gets the creative teams going during production, as well as helps develop the overall "vision" of the cartoons. So I think it's a very important role :).

Seems pretty pointless when he already had to follow so many guidelines from corporate, the lack of connections and the overall mediocrity of quality

I think it's still a pretty important role, nonetheless :).

I think they could work around that by having the team consist of the female leads from the other animated shows (White Tiger, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Gamora, etc.) Kids would already be familiar with the characters, and the roster could open the door for some very interesting interactions. :proud:

I don't think every Marvel show on DXD should be team based.

Plus, I'm surprised that this news hasn't been covered in Comic Book, Newsarama or any other comic book related site.

Because Wacker's tumblr blog isn't that well-known or they're unaware of any new info even existing on it?

I would be very displeased if news sites completely skip out on covering Marvel Animation info from the D23 Expo, but cover everything else.

Most likely the former part. His blog isn't well known outside Marvel Animation fans. It's just that said news has been overlooked by the major comic book news sits.

How often does D23 happen? The only time I remember significant Marvel Animation news from it was during the build-up to Ultimate Spider-Man.

I was going to ask this.

I know we usually get some decent movie news out of the expo, but I'm not sure how much exclusive animation news there is, aside from more major Disney cartoons o_O.

They did announce a while ago this year's D23 Expo will have news about Marvel Animation:

I'll probably post a separate thread for this on Friday.

D23 is bi-annual. So every two years.

Props to Stephen Wacker for doing that Thunderbolts arc on Avengers Assemble. Bringing on the original Busiek/Bagley Thunderbolts lineup for the show was his idea.
