Still a big fat zero on Rotten Tomatoes after 22 reviews. The consensus is up now, and it's pretty clever.

    Best line so far:
Hear that? It's the end of the world.

I have Asperger's myself, and frankly, I just don't see the appeal.

The Fact that this Movie is getting Levels of Hate is pretty much what's wrong with an Emoji Movie that's ripped off of The Lego Movie, Inside Out, Wreck It Ralph, Toy Story & Zootopia all in the Same phone. And Frankly, that pretty much backfired.

Hope this Means this is a Wake up Call Structuring to Fire Tom Rothman.

A 0, I never really had much high hopes in terms of seeing a fair score but 0, yikes.

I might have been stretching it a bit, sorry. At least it sounds like Popeye's still in development.

To be fair, way too many people seem to have that exact same assumption. It's hard to really blame you when you've been led to believe it was true.

I agree. I knew the movie was going to be poor and and soulless commercial for Sony, but I wasn't expecting it to "so bad it's horrible" material

Since everyone's been wondering, here's the history of the Popeye flick and how we got to this finish line:

Having actually seen the movie and not seeing a talkback thread for it, might as well post my review of it here. Warning major spoilers for the movie... though considering all the negative talk about the movie I doubt anyone cares. And I don't have a "hot take" on this either as I didn't enjoy this movie but... find out why in the review. (NOTE: I only saw the initital preview for this movie that ended with Patrick Stewart being revealed to be the poop emoji. That's really all I knew about this movie going into it which is also reflected in the review).

First they had Smurfs movies where they go into the real world, then they made Ghostbusters, and now they release The Emoji Movie.

How stupid are the people who run Sony's film division?

The user reviews at IMDb have made for very interesting reading. Critiques range from "terrible" to "cultural cancer" to "crime against humanity" to "made me want to kill myself."

One in particular was from a high school student who said that this movie reinforces the stereotype that young people are mindless, lazy social media addicts.

I know I already said this, but movies like this are why animation isn't taken seriously as a medium.

Highly doubt that. Pretty much everyone hates this movie.

I'm guessing they mean Gen Z because Millennials are pushing 30 (assuming they already haven't hit that milestone yet).

I haven't watched it and probably never will but its sheer existence is enough to gave me leukemia.

I saw a few people on Twitter thinking about going to see it just to see how bad it is. If enough people do that, it could make enough money for Sony to think a sequel is a good idea. To whoever reads this, please don't do that unless you're okay with them doing a sequel.

I look forward to seeing it on Netflix by next year. I want to see how bad it is, but don't want to pay for it.
