Bwahahahaha! My first Simpsons talkback thread! I beat you all to it! :D

Anyway, enough of my inflated ego-pumping, here's the synopsis from tvtome.com:
"Maggie's chances of getting into a gifted preschool are first threatened by an insulting interviewer and then by a jealous Lisa."

Hmmm... another guest star episode, especially to take advantage of a recent pop culture celebrity (in this case, Simon Cowell of American Idol). Given the recent use of guest stars, I'm not too hopeful, especially after last week's great episode, but hopefully I'm proven wrong at 8/7c.

    Hey! You took my talkback!

Ah well, it's not like I was "officially" a sanctioned talkback maker of Toon Zone like some of the others.

There's a clip on Thesimpsons.com, but it may spoil the episode (I've already made that mistake), so be warned....

I'm really annoyed because originally Simon was just playing a CHARACTER and not HIMSELF. But from what I've seen of the clips, it seems like they've actually got him playing HIMSELF now. Which means they spent a ton of money on retakes and changed the story just to make the episode slightly more relevent. BLAGH.

But he's not playing himself. He may share the same characteristics (read: being a smartass), but for all intensive purposes, he's still a character with a guest voices acting as a admissions officer at a gifted school.

Hmm.. Sorta like John Waters playing John in "Homer's Phobia"? Cool.

Good. I always prefered that kind of guest star to "OMG It's _____".

    Heh... apparently NeueZielZeon cared. :p
Don't worry, this is the only week I'll do it. Just thought I'd be the one to start a Simpsons talkback for once. ;)
Ditto. They seem to put more effort into the voice acting, too.

me too. they were always put to better use that way. often when they were themselves they really added nothing to the show. like they were just some novelty.

Hooray for you, HomeMoviesFan! You were rude for no reason!

    Geez...

Back to the show... I'm loving this episode. Lisa's dream was awesome (though the Phonic Frog is kinda annoying).

If Simpsons 2 episodes were more like this, it'd be a much better show.

Simon Cowell getting his ass kicked.
Moe and Barney as bulter and maid.
A main story that didn't involve a guest star as himself, or a wildly improbably situation, but an actual jealousy.

God, that entire last act was one of the most ridiculous incoherent things I've ever seen. Can't they ever end an episode without insulting the audience's intelligence?

Wait, I'm confused here. This is an episode I thought you Matt, of all people would absolutely hate, just like every other episode. There were MUCH better episodes this season (at least in my opinion), all episodes you've said you immensely hated.

Anyways, a pretty meh episode. Cowell's character was humorous, and it was good to see Homer beating the crap out of him, and Homer's fascination with the frog voice toy was funny (I wonder if anyone could get a sound effect of Homer playing with it), and the "You are Lisa Simpson" reference (it was good to see that Lisa still carries around Mr. Bergstrom's note). Otherwise, it was all over the place, I mean, the episode's climax took place inside a giant replica of the human body....what? And I didn't completely understand the reasoning behind Moe's maid scam, anyone care to elaborate?

Grade: B- Still thinking, I'm still not sure what to make of this one. As of now, it's one of my least favorite of the season.

Also, what was Lisa's dream parodying?

That wasnt continuity. That was just one of those pointless callbacks the writers hope we think are clever.
