He can do everything Batman can and do it faster. Women throw themselves at his feet namely Lois and Lana. They argue over who gets to marry him. He's the favourite son of the world's largest city. HE CAN FLY. He has xray vision. He has my vote

    Batman

He lives alone. All the women in his life except his mother and Barbara have pretty much all tried to kill him at one point or other. He has no friends. He has no superpowers. If he goes bankrupt there goes the batmobile and gadgets. Trick him into using a gun and he might retire for life. He intimidates people. Has cool vehicles. Hangs out with a boy in a vibrant suit which shows off his legs and his only constant companion really is his over sixty year old butler. Who do you think is cooler and who would you rather be?

Batman for the more interesting story. He's just so much cooler.

Batman is cooler, in the more conventional use of the word. Since the Frank Miller vision was first adopted, Batman's become like the comic book world's James Dean and James Bond. He worked hard to become the hero he is.

Superman, however, is a much better person. He works hard to inspire and protect people. He's the gold standard of superheroes, and he's probably the most recognizable and referenced fictional character of the 20th Century. I think I'd rather be Superman.

Well gee, that isn't a bias description. Why didn't you just put:
    Superman : Cool and awesome
    Batman: Dumb and Gay
Since that's basically what you were trying to say.
Honestly, Batman is 'cooler' that Superman. People are afraid of batman. You don't talk back to him unless you are criminally insane (and even then you'd think twice).

Superman on the other hand, is kind of like a whipped boss. Sure, you're going to have to listen to him, and he can force you to do something, but you can talk back to him, sleep with his woman, etc, and there isn't a thing he'll do about it. Because if he does, he's become 'evil'.

Everytime I see a thread like this, I take a trip back to the days when I was but a wee twelve-year old tyke and Kids WB! had a contest about who kicked more "booty." Of course, even then I new that Batman would, but I voted regardless. When the time came, this was displayed on the website for the bout:

Somehow I managed to keep the image until it was finally put up in WF's TNBA gallery.

And to this day, I stand by my original vote. I have a great love of Superman as well, but Batman holds many many fond childhood memories, whereas the only one Superman holds is that stupid "Superman's Pal" episode which seemed like the only episode of STAS that aired everytime I turned it on.

Memories aside, I still do enjoy Batman infinitely better. In a world of super-powered and genetically mutated superheroes, he was the only one that was still human. On a certain level, you think you can attain to be Batman more than you could Superman or The Flash. Flying, superspeed, heat vision all of that isn't reachable--but the ability to kick someones "booty" with your highly tuned martial art skills...I don't know. I guess that's not too attainable either, but it certainly feels closer than being able to shape shift...

Batman is my preference for coolness. Nothing to make your heart leap like when you see a giant bat coming down at you from 20 stories above. He is also portrayed very seriously and tough as opposed to Superman's Mr. Nice Guy approach most of the time.

However, on who I'd rather be, definitely Superman. He's a nice guy, he's got incredible powers and he isn't and never was truly alone like Batman is. Watching Batman and his adventures is cool, actually being him is not. Would you like to live in an world of a never-ending battle on the streets night in and night out? Having no love of your life and ending up alone when you grow old? Never being happy because the one thing you want is to have your parents back? Being Superman is looking pretty good. Now if I was superman and was able to watch BTAS, that would be truly cool :p

Im gonna with the flow here.

Sure Superman is stronger, and better at fighting, but how can you say Batman isn't cool? He's prolly the coolest superhero there is! (Well, one of them.)

    Way cooler than superman.

Yup, Batman. Dude, he rocks and he doesn't actually even have super-powers! That makes him extra special! So yeah, Batman is cooler. . . .

    My two cents:

    - Even if Batman *was* gay, that wouldn't preclude him from being as cool as he is in his usual skirt-chasing (as Bruce Wayne, anyway) self---dating and bedrom tastes do not have much to do with the ability to beat up cowardly, criminal scum. :)

    - FoxTrot the comic strip had an amusing Sunday installment with Peter and Jason arguing (to Paige's dismay) who's the cooler superhero and who they'd rather be. Peter argued he'd rather be Batman, since the Batmobile's cool, and Catwoman was preferable over Lois Lane; Jason countered with Superman's ability to fly and not worrying about getting shot by some bad guy's Uzi.

    >> Now if I was superman and was able to watch BTAS, that would be truly cool
    - Well, as Superman, I'd imagine Clark Kent must get to write about stuff Batman did for the "Daily Planet" from time to time, so there'd be that... plus, whatever newscasts they air about something involving Batman and the "true-crime" comics of the various hereos' adventures the DCU's version of DC Comics puts out. And, of course, actually *getting* to team up from time to time with Batman himself. All much cooler than sitting around watching Bats on TV... ;-)

    - For me, Batman (as Jason conceded) has the cooler costume, but I still like Superman a lot more than Batman. Guess he's a more appealing character to me---the superpowers, the settings, the threats and problems he faces, his influence on the world at large, and his sense of morality (not killing his enemies or succumbing to their level, etc.) and, as the other person said, being a better person overall---all of which *doesn't* make Superman a "wimp" who'd let you "sleep with his woman" (never mind that Lois has a mind/will of her own regarding consensual sex, here...), contrary to the general standards of today's world (dubious politicians, egoistical overpaid athletes, general money-grubbingness all around, etc.). Yes, I still like Batman overall (aside from whatever arrogant d*** in a bat-costume it is that's been imitating Bruce in the comics for the past 10 years), but definitely prefer Supes any day.

As for who I'd rather be, geez, some choice: have my parents gunned down by Joe Chill and leaving me an orphan, or have the planet I hailed from and its billions of inhabitants die from the planet itself exploding?! ;-)

The generation that most of us seem to be apart of have had an over-indulgence of Batman really. I'm not going to patronise and say everybody here is one particular age but seriously it's been non-stop Batman across all the entertainment mediums for more than a decade now and nobody can deny that.

Before I went to kindergarten, I got in on the superhero stuff when my parents bought me the DC action figures that were out at the time in early to mid 80s. As I began to take notice of what I was seeing on the box when they sat me in front of it I saw the old DC cartoons (those with in-depth knowledge of the Super Powers; Superfriends AND the other shows with those styles of animation - the Aquaman & Aqualad/Batman & Scooby Doo even etc VHS's, please PM me as I have questions and questions for you - I don't want to start a thread on either because I don't know if this is the right forum).

Now, at this time you might say it was Superman-heavy time. After the last two movies of him failed; along came 89's Batman. I went from a Superman phase to a Batman phase; but when I was in each I still loved the other, just a teensy weensy bit less. I've been in a Batman kind of phase for ages and with Smallville, Justice League and to a very small extent S:TAS (only because I've seen three or four episodes and this was three years ago); I'm starting to come back into a Superman phase again. If I had to take a side for this thread, Superman by a Kryptonian nasal hair.

But you know what, I can't split them. I had costumes of both of them for pyjamas when I was a kid and wore each of them proudly to kindergarten on many occassions. The Superman pj's I did wear more often out in public but that's besides the point.

I've spotted a DVD of the old 'Fleischer' Superman cartoon in a shop here - should I get it? What's on it if isn't the only one?

Why didn't I put Superman: Cool and Awesome? Batman: Dumb and Gay? 'Cause that was what I was saying? Amazing that there is a mind reader on this board. Everyone is afraid of batman? SUURE. Like Bane and R'as Al Ghul and Clayface and Jim Gordon and Alfred and...shall I continue? And obviousely you really don't read Superman comics if you think he's a 'whipped boss'. The only writers who'd portray him like that (besides Bruce Timm in JLA Season One (though he's gotten better since then)) are the midnineties groups and some idiot writers out there. None of the writers on the character today portray him as that. Batman ripped off the GA Superman. Every scare tactic he does GA Superman did first and did better. He once wanted to know where Lex Luthor had hidden a bomb in this one comic and instead of saying, "Please Luthor, people will die," he picked him up and said "See that steel wall? I wonder what will give first the wall or your head," and sure enough Luthor had the idea to tell Superman what he wanted to know and they never found out whether that wall would have gave way to Lex's head. If Superman had been written well in Injustice For All, Kobra wouldn't have considered talking jack to him and having Superman say after being a wuss and saying, "I wonder how Batman does it," instead he'd have grabbed him by the shirt and said, "You don't wanna tell? That's fine with me. Do you like roasted nuts? I see you're shaking you're head. You don't like 'em you love 'em eh? You're not looking well, would you prefer medium or well done? What's that? Batman is hidden in the nearby gas factory? Thanks, you really are a swell guy." And by the way, if anyone slept with Superman's woman it would depend, "WHICH woman?" Lois who is his wife and is FAITHFUL to him (which would mean you'd have to get physical which would have an angry Superman after you saying "What the hell did you do to my wife?") or Lana who has wished she was with him since childhood? Or do you mean Maxima who was always trying to get Superman to be with her even after Superman got married? Superman wouldn't much care who did what with her. Now who does Batman have in love with him besides Catwoman who only seems to be in love with him occasionally? All the women in Batman's life either die or walk out on him. How cool is that?

"Batman ripped off the GA Superman."

How so? Batman has been intimidating people and scaring the crap out of them since his creation in 1939. Granted, there was a while where he got a bit too campy and lost that, but that doesn't change the fact it was a part of his character from the get-go.

Good evening, and I hope you all enjoyed your Halloween,

I think it's a good idea to distinguish between the comics and the cartoon. The Superman of the comics and the Superman of the cartoon aren't identical. I think there are a lot of varying nuances between the character in both media, mainly in power portrayals, sex appeal, attitude, etc. The deviation seems less extreme for Batman, though, IMHO.

Incidentally, I knew long before I read about the DCAU on the internet that the writing talent had a strong preference to Batman. It seemed fairly evident, especially early on during the STAS run and then the crossover specials, and especially in scenes such as the aforementioned one in "Injustice for All" (why didn't they just ask the mind-reader to figure it out?).

Finally, here's a bit of an observation. In my experience, fans of the Supes comics don't hold STAS in nearly as much regard as Bats fans do for BTAS. Yes, BTAS was a better show, so naturally it should have more fans, but I can't help but feel if it's perhaps something more than just total quality.

Gee, ANOTHER loaded question firstbornalways? I'll do my best.

I find Batman cooler if only because on JL/JLU he steals every scene he's in. He always says or does something that makes you wish he showed up more often even if he is arguably the Leaguer with the most screen time.

I also think he's very funny.

He's referring to Superman in his early appearances, when he was a vigilante who wasn't really all that super compared to most modern heroes.
