The original script has a lot of plotholes, but if you expanded on it with ideas from the TV show, moved some events around, increased the logic, it would work pretty well.

The one thing I'm not big on in Macross is the music angle. It seems in the original it was used to create culture shock but now it's just used to push soundtrack CDs. I'm not as big a music fan as most people so for me the almost magical powers of music in the series is off putting and just plain silly.

Well they can go back to good-old-fashioned culture shock. It's not like they're adapting Basara "Listen to my song!" for the big screen.

Well, for better or worse, the Robotech film has some new writers. Does this mean Lawrence Kasdan is no longer involved?

Millar and Gough. While they're decent at writing popcorn flicks, I don't think they're suitable for something like Robotech.

Tommy Yune isn't really suitable for writing something like Robotech either but that didn't stop him.

We've established that Kristin Kreuk is the kiss of death for legitimacy.

I expect her to be in it and to fill the movie with her own special brand of awful.

A Hollywood newcomer? Why did the alarm bells suddenly ring off the hook?

Just tell me that his adaptation is an adaptation of Macross and not some Frankenscript of all 3 unrelated shows. Please.

Leonardo Dicaprio Turns Down Star Wars For Robotech

Latino Review is saying that an upcoming announcement at D23 Disney's on convention in August is going to announce casting for the new J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Wars movies- names being thrown out are two former Disney kids: Zac Effron and Ryan Gosling!

But the big story is that Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the franchise because he'd rather be in ROBOTECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://latino-review.com/2013/07/24/exclusive-disney-star-wars-episode-vii/

I don't even know what to type. Leo being in Robotech would ensure that it would be an A-list movie with A-list special effects and an A-list director and writers. I won't get my hopes up- Keanu Reeves wanted to be Spike Spiegel and that would've gotten A-list special effects too. But it didn't happen.

It would be more likely to happen if Pacific Rim were more of a hit in the states.

Given Latino Review's unreliability as of late, I really doubt this to be true at all.

I will agree that Pacific Rim's under-performance probably did put a damper on any other giant robot movies in development though. This includes Robotech along with Voltron as well and that Evangelion movie that has been in development hell for a good decade now.
