So says Anime News Network. There was a commercial on Japanese TV and we have a Japanese article about it here. It's being described as a "television project" for later this year. I would assume it's another special until we hear differently.

Crunchyroll's new news thing is saying it's actually a TV series. Confirmation (or not) and more details to come, no doubt.

That could be pretty cool. I'm still sad that more of the 2nd series was never dubbed. And subsequently the other series.. Pioneer > FUNi movies dub for the Lupin cast btw.

One can only expect TMS to animate this series. I mean come on, along with Detective Conan, Bakugan and Anpaman, Lupin's one of their flagship seires.

This news does not surprise me all that much. 2010-11 seems to be the era of anime franchise revivals, and Lupin has always been a resilient brand.

I'm very interested though. The last time Lupin had an ongoing TV series was in the mid-80's, and a big reason for that is because it was getting hard to tell new, novel stories on a weekly basis. Is this new show going to re-adapt material from the older shows and specials for the 21st century, or is it going to try to add it's own wrinkle to the mythology? Or maybe a combination of the two? There's a lot of possibilities here.

Oh wow, a new series, eh? I wonder if it'll be a twenty-six'er or more? Hmm...

even though I only ever saw what AS aired of Lupin you can still count me among the interested :anime:

for those that have kept up with the franchise and have seen recent specials and whatnot how does it look through todays animation? while not its only charm, part of it for me was its "oldness" :)

Sadly early reports were bad; it's a TV special airing this fall after all.

The special will feature new cast members!

Zengita: Yamadera Kou'ichi (Spike from Cowboy Bebop)
Goemon: Namikawa Daisuke (Ulquiorra from Bleach)
Fujiko: Sawahiro Miyuki (never heard of her)

Kurita and Kobayashi will return as Lupin and Jigen.

Yamadera and Namikawa are a real coup.

Most people would probably recognize Miyuki Sawashiro as the seiyuu of Celty of Durarara! and Saeko from High School of the Dead.

I think she'll make a good Fujiko. Her voice fits quite well to the femme fatale types.

It was inevitable that some of the older members of the voice cast would eventually be replaced. Will be interesting to see Kouchi Yamadera's take on Zenigata.:D

Regarding the special itself, it's also interesting to note that Fujiko's design seems to be an homage to the Green Jacket series judging from the screencaps. Neat.
