And here I thought the series was going to be dead after Hack//Link..

    http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/15/this-is-the-haseo-in-cyberconnect-2s-new-hack-game/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+(Siliconera)

    From what the articles says:

-Haseo is back(As in the character, the player is still unknown).
-The game is linked to the movie that recently came out in Japan.
-It takes place in the year 2024(a year after Hack//Link).

Hopefully this has a chance of coming out in the US at least. Hack//Link wasn't...the most marketable psp game, so it's understandable why it didn't come out in other areas.

The .Hack games never really impressed me. I mean I like the idea behind them, and the basic story but the execution left much to be desired.

My biggest problem with the first game series was that each of the games felt like one forth of a game rather when a whole game by itself. I hated having to pay full price for four titles that together made one full game.

I have not played G.U. so maybe it does not have the game problem but after the first series I had no interest in giving it a shot.

I'm also not really a fan of MMO RPGs or Single player RPGs that mimic MMOs like this games case.

I haven't played the first four games to give a great compare, but GU from what I heard(and after playing them) tries much, much harder with its characters and story. I recently finished volume 2 and I was very impressed with the writing overall. Its been a very long while where I actually cared a lot about each member of the cast. The gameplay picks up much more in volume 2 as well, where in volume 1 its a bit slow and easily repetitive.

Doesn't hurt to give it another shot, but you did say weren't a big fan of MMO rpgs so a mimic probably wouldn't be in your taste.

Thats cool. I'm pretty behind in the franchise, though, so it would be awhile untill I even consider buying this game.

It's good to see the .hack series is still going, even if this may be the last game in the series.

And it's really great to see Haseo back too, as G.U. was my favorite installment of the series, though I liked the original as well. I doubt it's the original Haseo, though I'd love it if it was. The question though is... does this Haseo have Skeith?

I'm praying that we can get both this and the movie out here, and I'm sure Yuri Lowenthal would love to reprise his role as Haseo. I mean, he's the only character he's ever cosplayed as! :)

Indirectly it was announced for the ps3. There has been countless articles in the past that discussed that Cyberconnect were making a game for the system since last August. Rumors rised that it was in fact a .Hack game to go along with the movie promotion.(a lot like Hack//Link).

    One of the many articles:
    http://n4g.com/news/48212/exclusive-ps3-game-announced-possibly-hack

This new .Hack is in fact the ps3 title that they were teasing for a while(kind of should of been obvious since the series has been getting so many promotions). :) Not to mention the main .Hack games wouldn't be going elsewhere main console wise. .Hack has always been with big Sony consoles since the ps2 and scored 8 games(Hack//Fragment counts in that list). The only reason why Hack//Link was even on the psp to begin with was because it's considered a less important title with some big notes at the end(think Kingdom hearts if you will). ...It doesn't help as well that Hack//Link is more about memories than the original concept that the other Hack games had.

So yeah, the article I first posted doesn't say it will be on the ps3. However, it's already been said a great number of times by a variety of sites(with actual good sources) that they do in fact have a ps3 game in the works. And with this now recently announced, it can be pretty clear that it is this .Hack game. The info they shared and the graphics make the idea much more convincing.

It's a fighting game called .hack//Versus. It's a reskin of the Naruto games, and is bundled with a copy of the CG film. It'll be out in Japan on June 28.

This is less important than .hack//Link

I was really looking forward to playing a .hack PS3 game but now that I know it's a fighter all that excitement has been completely drained away. Hopefully they'll develop a main series game later on.

It's certainly not what I was expecting for a .hack game, but I don't think it's a total loss. CyberConnect2 can make great fighting games, such as the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series. And considering we still don't have many details about it, I would wait before deciding whether it will be a good addition to the series or not. The graphics certainly look nice.

Huh, this is definitely a twist. I can't say I'm disappointed since a .Hack fighter would be rather interesting with the right character roster. Hopefully this just means that Cyberconnect is at least testing the ps3 grounds in order to see what kind of new .Hack Trilogy they could make. From the sounds of things they are definitely changing a lot in the story with Aura and what not.

It's kind of late to "start" thinking about making a PS3 trilogy of .hack titles given the next generation of console hardware is looming.

Some new images have been released. The Kite look alike Sora from the movie is playable. Also, it looks like the game might have all of Haseo's forms from the G.U. trilogy playable. You can see Xth form and a glimpse of his 2nd form.

    It also looks like

Not really, Hack GU occurred when the ps2 was considered "dead" due to the ps3 hardware news floating around. It's kind of silly to say it's too late when plenty of other companies have already showed that they can release games on previous consoles as they wish, such as Pokemon Black and White 2 for the DS(when Nintendo could have easily planned that for the 3DS). Not to mention we don't know if they have more .Hack content in the making, considering they are fleshing out sales because of the movie and what not. For all we know there is plenty of more series fun around the corner, whether it's another game trilogy or a OVA. Looking back at Cyberconnect's previous actions involving .Hack, anything is really possible. The fact that they are bothering to make this game should tell fans that they are at least interested enough in the ps3 grounds. They could have easily just made only a special box set for the movie and still gain sales if they weren't interested.

And if it helps at all, the ps2 was able to breath a lot of new games from companies when the ps3 was released. Games such as Persona 4 from Atlus turned out to be one of the most successful rpgs and that was after the "ps2's death" claims from Sony fans. ;)

While things can look very unlikely, there is still a possibility regardless.

Not surprising that girl Kite has is in :p and Haseo with all of his forms is a given.

    New Trailer is out: http://andriasang.com/con0mn/hack_vs_trailer/

The playable characters are so far: Girl Kite #1(From the movie), Girl Kite #2(from the most recent Hack anime), Haseo(all forms), Ovan, and Tsukasa.

It's also interesting to note that Pi(real world) is in the trailer as well.

I'd assume that red-haired guy is playable as well, if only because he's on the cover. Maybe he's the final boss for each story, ala Seth from Street Fighter 4?

Wow, this game is looking better and better.

Sadly, the chances of this being brought over are slim.

On the bright side, Japanese PS3 games can still play on North American PS3 systems.
