After a 5 month lockout that almost threatened to end the season, the NBA regular season has officially made its debut today with the Celtics-Knicks at noon. This season is only 66 games long, which means lots of games will be crammed into a week. This will be beneficial to the younger teams, but much tougher for older teams.

This talkback will also cover the playoffs and NBA Finals.

I think that 82 games are too long for a regular season, as I want to see more emphasis placed on the postseason. There are a lot of meaningless games in a 82 game regular season, whereas in this 66 game regular season, a lot of games will likely have enormous weight as to who makes the postseason, and what team gets what seed.

The most talked about trade in the NBA recently is the one that never happened: the Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers trade. Instead, Chris Paul is now a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. There are those out there who think the Clippers can make the postseason in the Western Conference this year.

I watched bits & pieces of the first three games, since there wasn't much else on the tube other than overplayed reruns.

Did anyone else catch the "Joker's Wild" reference Mike Tirico made during Lakers-Bulls (Joker! Joker! And a triple!)? This was during the 1st half. Wack.

Hearing the announcers and the PA guy saying Metta World Peace was as hilarious as I thought it would be.

Well the NFL had a lockout as well. As they only play once a week for the next four months if you don't count the pre-season, playoffs, and Super Bowl.
Due to the pads and abuse they put on their bodies week in, week out. From tackling and running.

In the NBA they do lots of running. Eighty-two games is a lot. That is like playing two to three games a week for the season. But still, they don't have to put on the pads and abuse on their bodies like the NFL does.

    There is a difference there.

Well, if you have been living under a rock for the past couple weeks, Knicks guard Jeremy Lin has taken the basketball world by storm, helping the Knicks win their past 8 out of 9 games. All done with Amare Stoudamire mostly out and Carmelo Anthony currently out.

They won today's game over the world champion Mavericks and Lin had another big game. He had 28 points and 14 assists, a career high. The question from here forward is: Can they keep up the momentum and can Lin and Anthony play together?

I don't watch a lot of games. I just like catching up on changes in team uniforms.

The Nicks huh. I wasn't aware that Nickelodeon owned a team. When did this happen? When did they enter the NBA business? I think you mean the Knicks, which is actually an abbreviation since the full team name is the New York Knickerbockers.

Knowing the Knicks it'll be Isiah Thomas:D

I thought D'Antoni would have either quit or been fired sooner but I guess Linsanity held that off for about a month. Mike isn't a good coach and he could never get this disaster of a team to work but if the choice came up between him or Isiah I'd take Mike everyday of the week.

As a Knicks fan I'm glad he gone, This team with this much talent should not be fighting with the Bucks for the 8th seed.

You may hate me for saying this, but the problem all comes down to one player- Melo. Yes, I said it.

FACT: Denver had a better record without Carmelo last year than with him, and the Knicks actually had a worse record with Melo last year than without him.

FACT: Linsanity went wild without Carmelo in the lineup.

FACT: The Knicks have had a losing record with Carmelo in because he takes too many shots and is roughly only a 35-40% maker of those shots.

FACT: While D'Antoni has always been an offensive coach, the Knicks gave up nearly 15 points less a game when Carmelo was on the bench because they slowed down the pace and rotated the ball more.

It says a lot that the Knicks are on a three-game winning streak right after the coach resigned. Hope this keeps up.

The Knicks look like a different team with Woodson as the coach. They're on a 4-game-winning streak. I hope this keeps up. They play better defense, and with more emotion, intensity, and urgency. :)

I'll admit it, your Knicks are shaping up to be quite a contender in the playoffs. My Bulls on the other hand are on a losing streak. Management gave Mike James a contract to sign today so we'll be seeing him on the court tonight against the Celtics. It's safe to say Derrick Rose needs to rest for the playoffs, but it's urgent to get a rhythm going before entering. Hamilton is playing tonight with Boozer, Noah, Gibson, and Korver. It's going to be a nasty game.

With the regular season ending today and with a 7-59 record, the Charlotte Bobcats now have the worst record in NBA history.

Also, the NBA playoffs start this Saturday.
