John Cusack in Being John Malkovich.

    "Oh, no. Gas!"
    "I can't help it. I'm old."
"Not that kind. The kind that kills."
    "Well, sometimes..."

Let me hint things up for you:

The exchange is from a star-studded mystery spoof released in the 1970s.

Can't be; that came out in 1985. But I've been visiting this thread for a while, so I think I have it. I'm going to guess Some Movie That No One Ever Heard Of.

Whoa, that's funny. I thought Damien was asking for another clue. I had even thought about that movie ("Clue") when I was trying to think of the answer.

It sounds familiar, but I often think that about quotes from movies I have never heard of. I'm stumped.
I think we need another hint or an answer or a new quote.

EDIT: I found it. I had to search, but I think it's safe to say that no one else knows it.
    "Murder By Death"
The characters saying the lines are (according to IMDB) Jessica Marbles and Miss Withers.

    Here's my quote:
"If you want me to keep my mouth shut, it's gonna cost you some dough. I figure a thousand bucks is reasonable, so I want two."

I'll wait until 11:00pm Eastern then put up another quote from that movie. Give you guys almost 24 hours.

I was surprised that no one got it yet. I'm thinking now that it is one of the less well know lines in the movie.

EDIT: Okay, a couple extra hours. Here's another line. I did paraphrase though. Instead of "heck", it was the harsher version. I wasn't sure what would be acceptable here. If I can say the real thing let me know. It looks so much better.

Character#1: "You think you've raised heck."
Character#2: "Sister, when I've raised heck, you'll know it!"

    Miller's Crossing

Got it off the second quote, I love all the Coen brothers movies but I tend to remember the visuals in MC more than the lines. Well, Jon Polito's Et-tics/High hat speech is memorable.
    ---------

Character 1: Do you serve beer or any alcohol?
Character 2: I wish! Actually you wish... after about five minutes of this movie, you're gonna wish you had ten beers.

I thought that one would be easy too.

It's from a comic book adaptation.

It sounds familiar, but it isn't quite coming to me.

Well, it's not your usual comic book adaptation. "altertnative" press, no superheroes (though one of the characters does a wear a "Catwoman"-type mask at one point). One of the stars plays a pathetic loser, which he has done before, but is mostly known for creepy/spooky/insane types.

    "Ghost World"?
That seems to fit everything you mentioned, but I don't remember that line in the movie.

    Try this one:

Character 1: Come here, my little friend!

    Character 2: Waiting!

    Character 1: For what?

    Character 2: Family!

Character 1: Oh? You don't have one! I made you!

    Character 2: But, maybe...

Character 1: Don't make me shoot you! Now, come here, I will take you apart.

Yep, it's Ghost World. Character 1 is a customer, can you guess the name of the other (main) character?

I believe it was Thora Birch's character, Enid.

Now, if you don't mind, I'll be closing this thread now. 30 pages is too much!
