The episode is on Disney XD on demand.

    * I liked that there was no true antagonist.

    * Even if she made up for it, Tana Nile mocking Drax's daughter and ripping apart her doll made me hate her.

    * Jukka is an actual, albeit rather obscure, character from the comics. Voiced by Khary Payton himself!

    * It really saddens me how few people even know or care about this show...It's a genuinely decent show with well developed characters. I guess the unoriginal title and MCU-inspired designs are a turn off for a lot of people.

I quite enjoyed this episode and getting a look into what Drax was probably like as a father. I thought the ending was rather touching.

Pretty solid episode. Wonky animation aside, we got a lot of good character beats with Drax and even Gamora here, as well as a few good action moments and some great lines from Rocket and Star-Lord :D.

There was a lot of good character moments for Drax in this episode. Whenever his family or his life as a father comes up, and he's not in full-on "Destroyer" mode, we get to see a more vulnerable and softer side of Drax then what we're used to. And it was actually kind of cool seeing Drax be the one Guardian who seemed to actually have any idea what to do when it came to Tana, being the only one of them with experience properly raising a child, and not losing his composure like the others did until Tana deliberately pushed him too far :ack:.

Tana...was a brat. I get that they were trying to go for the whole "bratty teenager" thing and connecting that to her fears over losing her emotions and having to lead her people, and her story and character development resolved themselves fairly well by the end, but she was still pretty unlikeable for most of the episode. Her egging on Drax about his daughter's death and tear up one of the few things he has left to remember his family, knowing full well how important both are to him, was really taking things too far .

It was also kind of hard to take Tana seriously as a teenager near the cusp of adulthood when she was about as tall as your average small child. I mean, we even had Drax comparing her to how his daughter would've been at that age, yet Tana is probably about as tall and mature (maybe less so) as Drax's daughter was when she was still alive .

This was also a pretty dramatic revamp of the Tana Nile character from the Thor comics, going from an adult alien colonist to the princess of the Rigellians. I think this was an interesting take on the character, with Jessica DiCicco doing a great job conveying her brattiness, insecurities, and her maturation into a true princess and making them feel genuine. Be cool to see her meet Thor at some point though ;).

I actually have to wonder what Gamora would be like as a mother. I mean, even assuming she would ever find someone to settle down with, which is implausible enough, with all she went through being raised by Thanos and forgetting her real family, you have to wonder how that would impact her raising a child and trying to do better by it then what she had growing up. And I guess she has a lot of experience dealing with rambunctious kids with all the experience she has dealing with Quiill and the other Guardians :p.

As much as I want to say that taking away someone's emotions and capacity to love is the cruelest punishment you could inflict on them, and I do believe that, I can't help but see the Rigellian's point in doing so in order to control their populace's TK abilities. I mean, just watching Tana's outbursts and the Empithatic's almost psychopathic disregard for order or safety when it came to using their powers, and you can see why they would be so fearful of letting their people run around with their powers without any kind of limiter or control of it :ack:.

I think this might in fact be Khary Payton's first ever role in a Marvel cartoon, though not his first time voicing a Marvel character. I almost think that warrants a "special guest voice" credit or something, though I also kinda wish he had gotten to voice a more major character. Still, really cool seeing him here :anime:.

It was cool seeing the Rigellian High Commissioner pop back up again and in a fairly more major role, with Eric Bauza delivering a very George Takei-ish performance that even Takei would probably be impressed by. I also found it interesting when he rationalized his forcing Tana to leave her emotions behind as doing what a father feels is best for their daughter, something they do out of love, possibly indicating that even with their emotions removed the Rigellian's are still capable of sentimentality. Makes me curious to see how he acts around Tana's mother o_O.

Did anyone else get the sense there was some kind of romantic subtext between Tana and Jukka? Especially with his emphasizing "love" when he talked about what she would be giving up by losing her emotions. I mean, it was barely there, but I could totally see it :rolleyes2:.

Interesting. I didn't see that at all. I think Jukka just didn't want Tana to go with the King to 'stick it to the man'.

I did find it amusing that Gamora was against a rebellion here, since Gamora's voice actor Vanessa Marshall plays Hera in Star Wars Rebels. :p
I agree but if we like it, I think that's more important than other people not paying attention. At least this show gets less 'this show sucks, bring back EMH or Spectacular Spider-Man" comments compared to Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man. It still gets some hate but not as badly.

Pretty good episode. I liked Tana Nile for the most part though there were some scenes where she got a little too annoying. But it's cool how they portrayed and developed her throughout the story. Her interactions with the others, most notably Drax, were neat. It's nice how they brought in some more stuff about Drax and his daughter. It got pretty emotional at times as well, especially the ending.

The Empathetics were decent antagonists for the story but didn't really leave an impression on me. Still it's nice to have a break from the Believers. Some pretty good action scenes (though not too many) and some pretty amusing gags, but the stuff with Drax and Tana were the stand-outs for me.

Random side note: Tana Nile (with a different design, closer to the one from the comics) also had a cameo on Ultimate Spider-Man, in a video game Spidey was playing with Nova in "Guardians of the Galaxy".

    Cast list:

    Will Friedle - Sar-Lord A.K.A. Peter Quill, Empathetic #3
Trevor Devall - Rocket Raccoon, Grand Commissioner, Red Scarf Empathetic
    Kevin Michael Richardson - Groot
    Vanessa Marshal - Gamora
    David Sobolov - Drax
John DiMaggio - Lunatik, Bouncer, Ship Crasher #1
    Jessica DiCicco - Tana Nile
Khary Payton - Jukka, Ship Crasher #2

And we've finally found Drax the Destroyer's greatest weakness...the ladies room :p.
I admit, when it comes to Marvel cartoons, I've started looking for that kind of subtext even when it's barely there to not at all .

I thought it was interesting how Gamora's position ended up being opposition to Drax's as far as what to do with Tana, which was a total reverse from how it had been for most of the episode :).

I liked the episode (in the second half), but the princess was so annoying and obnoxious in the first half that it became distracting. Being a brat is one thing - but almost destroying their ship, and destroying that stuffed animal, was beyond bratty behavior. It was nasty. I would have ditched her, if I was in their shoes.

I am guessing Tana will be a lot more tolerable presuming she appears again later on during this season. I think they could come up with another story where the Guardians end up meeting her again.

I wouldn't be surprised if she pops up the next time we see a lot of galactic leaders together, like in season 1 :).

This reminded me alot of old Star Trek episodes more than anything. It certainly felt more dramatic than alot of recent episodes, dealing with serious issues and questions. I thought the ending was something of an anti-climax, both in how Tana wiggled out of the ceremony and the little speech she gave at the end. Still, a pretty good episode.

Tana is an opposite gender clone.
