Holy didn't see this coming, Batman. Rumor is an Agent Carter show is in early development stages. It could work, I've enjoyed Atwell's performances as Carter. But if true, is Marvel Studios getting too ambitious with MCU project juggling?

So, it will probably deal with the origins of S.H.I.E.L.D. and hoping shed some light on what happened to HYDRA. Honestly, more Atwell is always a very good thing in my humble opinion.

Hopefully an Agent Carter show could work around the complaints people have had about a lack of Marvel characters in Agents of SHIELD. There've gotta be a lot of Golden Age and 50's-era Marvel characters they could use without contradicting the movies.

Dominic Cooper adds some more fuel to the fire that is the rumored Agent Carter TV show:
I definitely wouldn't mind a show featuring the triumvirate of Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan in the Cold War years/fledgling years of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Watch Loeb call "Peggy Carter" a spin-off of the highly successful "Agents of SHIELD", similar to the highly successful "Ultimate Spider-Man".

I am looking forward to a Agent Carter series though, especially if they can flesh out the older members of SHIELD. There were so many agents with and without powers from that era in the comics, that it would be so much better to concentrate on.

Some solid news on Agent Carter this past week. Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas are possible showrunners and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely did a script.
    1/17/14: THR and IGN
ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee said
The key points are - script in, some staffing, series only in development, pilot not greenlit yet.

Reading between the lines, a lot is likely riding on how strong Agents of SHIELD finished before they decide to build a Marvel action block.

Hmm, would be neat if they used Lola as a bridge between both series.

Interesting. ABC usually dedicates certain nights for only comedies don't they?

    In the now, man
The CW aside, each of the broadcast networks do have their own nights mostly dedicated to comedies, and Wednesday nights is ABC's.

Yes. If I remember correctly, the ABC head expressed some regret for separating Once Upon a Time and the spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. I haven't watched either of those shows, but I probably would have if they had been at 9 and 10 behind AOS in a superhero-fantasy block. If they have a second Marvel action series about SHIELD and don't build a block around it, that would be ridiculous.

I haven't watched either but I like the idea of the block. If not that, then a Marvel block would be just as cool. I don't know what their strategy is but it seem like they're using AoS as an anchor then after that show, assume viewers stay on to watch the comedies that trail. They might try to do that on a different day with Agent Carter and ...dramas or fantasy shows. But hopefully they don't.

EDIT 1/24: Rumor is ABC and Marvel are prepping to shoot principal photography for a new series in Vancouver in June under the tile "That Old Chestnut"

Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely talked a bit more about the show

    1. [*=left]ABC has the script for the pilot but nothing is greenlit yet.
[*=left]Markus and McFeely have recently spoken to Hayley Atwell and she is very interested in doing the show.
[*=left]Howard Stark would be a recurring character, not a series regular.
[*=left]The show would start in 1946, sort of in the middle of the timeline of the One Shot. They don't want her to be running S.H.I.E.L.D. that fast. They want to stay in that world longer where people are disrespecting her and she’s proving herself and going on missions and things like that.
[*=left]Markus and McFeely think Agent Carter should be a limited series with a maximum of 13 episodes per season. "Our case would be that it would be a limited series and you would wrap up that one bad guy and that one case, and then if you like it we’ll do it again next year and it’s 1947."

I have mixed feelings about Carter dealing men like Agent Flynn but it is set up where in the One-Shot she had been back to active duty for three months but hadn't gotten her first assignment. So a lot of her going behind superiors' backs like in the One Shot would be entertaining to watch. I do like the idea of a 13 episode season. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - the amount of build up and terrible airing schedule makes it a serial show that's hard to keep up with, in general. But all for learning more about the SSR since we're still getting tidbits on AoS.

A buffer for winter would be nice. Just ten-to-thirteen episodes would allow for concise, but detailed storylines ala Doctor Who or Suits.

ABC's upfront presentation is May 13, so the series will probably be announced then.

With how OUAT in Wonderland flopped, I'm guessing Agent Carter will indeed bridge the two halves of the Agents of SHIELD season season rather than launching independently.

There is something to the bridge theory. Just throwing this out there. It is unorthodox. But it would be a baller move by Marvel.

There are exactly 39 weeks (26 episode order + 13 episode order) in between the August 1, 2014 release of Guardians of the Galaxy and May 1, 2015 release of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

That means ABC could give "Agents of SHIELD" an early Fall push on the Tuesday after GotG and run it 13 episodes to the first Tuesday in November then run 13 episodes of "Agent Carter" through the first Tuesday in February. "Agents of SHIELD" could pick back up a 13 episode run ending the Tuesday after "Age of Ultron" thus giving it a nice epilogue episode.

Of course, with holidays and such they wouldn't want to stick with this necessarily. If they want to go with reruns or specials before Christmas and New Year's, that means they could do an AoS lead in for the premiere of "Agent Carter" and flip it for the "Agent Carter" finale and Spring premiere of AoS. They could also do a special double episode after Age of Ultron.

Disney/Marvel/ABC has plenty of options with this plan. The best thing is they could hold their audience during this break in movies.

I was kinda hoping they'd jump ahead a little and start things in the 50's. Then we can have characters like the Agents of Atlas and 50's Captain America floating around and interesting back drops with things like Korea and the early Cold War. Plus post-War 40's was kinda a bland era in US history. It was basically just cleaning up. Things didn't start getting interesting again until the Russians built their own bomb in 1949.

Assuming Agents of SHIELD is renewed it'll be a 22-episode order, not 26. 22 is standard.

The movie tie-in episode thing doesn't necessarily work. The Captain America tie-in episode actually hit a series-low rating for AOS. So they definitely wouldn't premiere season 2 of Agents of SHIELD in August. They'd have to move around production schedules to make that work to begin with.

Having one show bridge two halves of another show's season is nothing new. ABC usually runs kind of "filler" programming in December-February anyway, stuff like The Taste, Killer Women, etc.

Now that I think of it, though, they might just have Agent Carter run at 9:00 on Tuesday after Agents of SHIELD. It's a bit big of a show to just run as midseason filler like that. It would just be replacing two unsuccessful comedies in that slot anyway.
