Mark Hamill, voice of the Joker (Batman: TAS) and Time Squad's The Larry 3000, and known to Star Wars fans everywhere as Luke Skywalker, is voicing a lead role in AERO-TROOPERS -- an independent, feature-length, all-digital, fantasy-adventure film from Creative Light Entertainment and Nueart Pictures.

Hamill screened the Aero-Troopers movie trailer at the San Diego Comic-Con last month to enthusiastic response from the audience.

"The animation is outstanding... gorgeous, and it has a great story and lots of action," says Hamill. "I think it will be a movie that all audiences can enjoy."

Hamill added that what he really appreciated about the movie's production is that rather than hiring "celebrity voices," the voice cast is made up of "really great voice talents" -- namely, Billy West (Futurama, Ren & Stimpy), Roger Rose (Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, The Tick), Jess Harnell (Animaniacs, The Tick), and newcomer James Arnold Taylor (Atlantis: Milo's Return, Dinozaurs) as Joshua.

Initially titled The Icarus Trees, Aero-Troopers features an original story. Here's a synopsis from the official site:

<img border="0" src="http://www.creativelightworldwide.com/images/040_01.jpg" alt="Joshua, voiced by Mark Hamill" align="right" hspace="5" vspace="3"width="150" height="81">There is a world unknown and unfamiliar, a place where enormous trees float free of gravity creating fantastic tree-villages. In one such tree lives Joshua [perhaps inspired by U2's 'The Joshua Tree'?], who dreams of adventure outside the shelter of his tree house. He builds a glider to set himself free, but before he leaves an enormous mechanical beast called Nemeclous attacks. Joshua escapes, but is orphaned as the lone survivor. Then, the AeroShip, a fantastic flying space station, comes to his rescue. Its crew, led by Qyun, a master of the sky, recruits Joshua as a cadet in their elite force of AeroTroopers. Their mission is to find and destroy Nemeclous.

According to Sung-wook SU (an animator on the film), Aero-Troopers has been in development for 3 1/2 years at Nueart, and is currently being screened in attempt to secure theatrical distribution. No release date has yet been announced.

    [Update: 9.11.02]

A CLE representative has informed Toon Zone that the film is currently in post-production. Once competed, Toon Zone will be offering an exclusive first look Aero-Troopers.
