Those names would be big to comic fans, but the general audience wouldn't know them. Just like they didn't know of Ra's Al Ghul or Scarecrow from Batman Begins.

9/16/15: That's what I was thinking. Get out of my head.

It's all relative. No matter what, there will be complains and PR will go back with 'rich comic heritage' blah blah 'sets it open to numerous interpretations of a character' blah blah. The end.

11/5/16: Amy Adams confirms a script is being worked on.

<eyes glaze over> Er... Well, I would guess this one is more along since they must have had something before BvS was birthed.

It's been a while since the last update, but Matthew Vaughn (of First Class, Kingsman, and Kick-A** fame) is being eyed to direct.

Oooh! Vaughn on a Superman movie could be a lot of fun, which is probably why they're eyeing him for the role I imagine ;).

I would be totally down for him as director :D.

Mm, yeah. That's a decent choice. I dug Kick-Ass and Kingsman.

If he is allowed to make the Superman movie he wishes, which would be nothing like Man of Steel or Batman Vs Superman, this could be tremendous.

If not, I imagine that we'll get news of Vaughn leaving the project before filming starts, like Aquaman, Flash and Wonder Woman.

Okay that did happen with Flash and a bit with Wonder Woman (since Michelle MacLaren was suppose to originally direct that movie) but that never happened with Aquaman. There were people asked to and considered for the role but the most that ever amounted to with everyone before James Wan was just talks and James is still heavily involved with and still appearing to do the movie. I guess that could change in the next... two months but nothing has been specifically hinted that it will so don't know why you're throwing Aquaman into those names.

I would be down with Vaughn though since yeah he has made some pretty brutal R super hero movies they've also been ones that keep the tone of their original source material and still have a fun and charm to them and as shown with X-Men First Class he can do a standard super hero movie with a PG-13 pretty well too.

Well, it would be good to have a director attached to the project, if only to confirm it's really happening and moving along ;).

Hmm...I feel like introducing Supergirl would be a smart and sensible move given she's a major figure in the Superman mythos and the DCU, on-top of having some good public reception, though at the same time I feel like we still need to see more of Superman solo in the DCEU, to build him up more as a hero and character :ack:.

But I think Brainiac is pretty likely as a villain, since they've already gone through Zod, Luthor, and Doomsday. It would also make sense to introduce Supergirl into a story featuring Brainac .

The Supergirl rumor was debunked. :/ So it's probably true. :p

Well, that's about as much as we could hope for at this point, I guess .

One of the things that went wrong with the Chris Reeve era (and a mistake repeated by Singer) was that Superman is more in need of sincerity than camp. Folks seem to forget that the stage musical It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman was NOT a great success. If Vaughn does get the gig, maybe he could give us the Brainiac story that has often been teased but never delivered to the silver screen.

The idea of Superman being in "need of sincerity" is and was profound for its time. We have to remember Superman is essentially the kinda alien visitor story trope, preceding the invaders. It stands to reason this derives from the creators being Jewish immigrants. I think the mistake comes into thos films too closely following George Reeve gee-wilkers Kent and do no wrong Superman.

Edit: Siegel and Schuster were both children of Jewish immigrants.
