According to Zap2it, "Looney Tunes" will air Thursday, January 1, 2009 all-day starting at 6am.

This is very, very good news! :)

EDIT: Also confirmed from the CN back-door schedule site.

Well, this is unexpected news. I wonder if this is permanent or just for New years Day? Even if it's only temporary, LT/MM on Cartoon Network again will be sweet! :D

I hope they keep it after the marathon. Tom & Jerry has been the only classic to stay on CN for years since all the rest left. Looney Tunes would be a good fill for 1-2pm weekdays (after T&J).

    1. To pretend or hide the fact that racism happened at all is just as bad as displaying racist tendencies in the first place. When those shorts were first made, the racist attitude was actually an appropriate mindset to have at the time.

    2. Not all of the shorts contained racial characatures.

    Please.

The Warner Brothers shorts were not racist. The racial caricatures that appeared in the shorts were done without 1 iota of mean-spiritedness and was no different than what every other studio was doing at the time. Keep in mind that these shorts were made several decades ago, when such broad caricatures were perfectly acceptable at the time. Heck, Disney shorts had racial caricatures as well. The crows from Dumbo? The black shoe shine boy centaurs from Fantasia? The Big bad Wolf dressing ups as Jewish salesman in "The 3 Little Pigs", anyone?

If you don't care for the LT/MM shorts, that your prerogative, but attempting to blacklist them as being "racist" for doing what everyone was doing during an era when it still socially acceptable is pretty weak, I have to say.

It's worth mentioning that I myself and a multi-ethnic "minority" and I didn't (and still don't to this very day) find those shorts to be in the least bit offensive. They were merely products of their time. And anyway, it's not like WB caricatured ethnics in every single short that made.

This is kinda cool, hopefully CN brings Loony Toons back for good and airs it for a half hour or an hour every day to eliminate some of the multiple Johnny Test's we must put up with daily. I bet this is just a one day special though :(

Claiming that WB did it more than Disney did is also debateable, unless you have some actual proof of this. If so, please PM me with your findings because I also have no desire to start a flaming debate over something so trivial.

    Yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!

This is going to be the best new years day ever!

I wonder if the restored prints from the DVDs (well, the ones that have been restored for DVD, anyway) will be used, or if they'll use the old masters that Cartoon Network formerly used.

...YESSS!!! YES YES YES YES YESSSS!!

    WOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

K, now that that's done with, this is without a doubt the absolute best thing to happen to Cartoon Network in oh, the past 4 years. This is better than getting rid of Fried Dynamite, better than the Nood bumps, better than Chowder, better than Flapjack, better than TSS or Clone Wars or anything else this year. This is one large leap to CN being "really good" again instead of just "alright" the way it is now. This means that anything can happen now. This means that maybe Turner and WB have come to an agreement and that we'll see better Kids WB shows on CN too. Or better yet, the return of more classics! We can only pray this isn't a one day thing.

This is a step in the right direction. Now all CN has to do is advertise these shorts instead of playing them without fanfare.
