    Deadline reported:

I'm surprised by the news but also pretty glad. I really enjoyed The Wolverine.

Hopefully in the next one, they'll go even grittier and more realistic. The main thing that held The Wolverine back was that it got a bit too silly and science-fictiony right at the end.

If it's a direct sequel, I wonder how they'll give Wolvie his claws back. I'd rather not have a whole bone claws movie, thanks.

So much for Jackman retiring as Wolverine .

Not that I mind one bit :D. Especially with Mangold back as well.

I wonder if this movie may bring back Weapon X so Wolverine can get his Adamantium claws again? Or better yet, just forget what happened in Origins and tell the "real" Weapon X story ;).

I am glad to see Jackman might very well continue with the claws, if not for his presence as an actor then at least setting a new record.

Excellent news, The Wolverine was the best X-Men movie they've done yet, I'm glad they are doing another.

There's no end in sight to Jackman's portrayal of Logan. Great news.

Cool, I liked The Wolverine. I wonder if we'll see more of Mariko or Yukio.

The difference between Jackman and Downey is he doesn't come to the studio believing he created everything. Jackman is having fun with it and if he can return he will. I just have wonder what story they are doing.

I'm apparently the Toonzone black sheep who didn't like The Wolverine. Nonetheless, I welcome a sequel.

How can they go off of The Wolverine if all the events get undone due to Days of Future Past?

We still don't know how much will change in Days of Future Past, and there's nothing stopping similar things happening in the new X-Men timeline that leads Logan to where he is in The Wolverine.

I thought The Wolverine was kind of dull, myself, but it's worth mentioning that I've never found Wolverine's solo stories all that interesting. To me, Logan's more interesting in a team dynamic, to play off the contrast between him and the more 'clean-cut' members of the rest of the X-Men. Without that contrast, Wolvie's just not that interesting; it's like Fonzie without Richie and the others.

Nonetheless, I figured The Wolverine would be getting a sequel, since fans seemed to like the first one. I just hope the sequel won't be a direct continuation of the first one; we've already seen Logan in Japan, hopefully the 2nd flick will be about something else entirely.

Obviously, it can't happen, but this would be a perfect time to do a Hulk vs Wolverine film.

Honestly if they were smart they'd use this film to introduce Alpha Flight in Canada. Since FOX is definitely keeping XMen, they have so much to explore.

Very good news. I loved The Wolverine, I am glad Mangold is returning for its sequel. They really are cranking out these X-Men films, I am glad they are now planning them out better rather than just quickly filming and releasing them the following summer. X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn't even have a completed script by the time filming began and it showed!

Man, that's awhile away, but I guess they have to focus on Apocalypse first.
