So it seems the Kaiju era of Movies is a definite thing now, a new King Kong movie called "Skull Island" has been announced today.

I wonder if it's a prequel just focusing on Kong and the island creatures. Everyone agreed that the half of Peter Jackson's Kong that was all on Skull Island was the best part, so it's good to see that Legendary's learned from that.

I don't know, I felt the new york scene in Peter Jackson's version was the best in all three movies

I'm guessing this is some kinda prequel, but it would be interesting if they actually do another Mighty Joe Young remake. The last one was in the 90's.

Yeah, Tull is planning Rodan and others, so their will be a huge Kaiju Cinematic Universe again.

That really hurts my anticipation for this. I'll still see it, but that really sucks.

I adore King Kong and Godzilla, so I have high hopes for this film and the eventual crossover. Sure, the size difference makes my head spin, but this is fantasy, so I'm sure something will be worked out.

More importantly, I'm glad that Kong is coming back in an original film that's not simply another remake of the '33 film.

    Hiddleston talks 'Kong: Skull Island':

Interesting. They haven't said what time period it is. Which makes me wonder if and how they're going to link up Godzilla, which is in our time.

Well Monarch was around since post-WW II so--the link could be that organization.

JK Simmons (before he left the project) said it was set in the '70s, and set photos of the helicopters and other hardware seem to back this up.

The 70's eh?... That sounds un-promising.

Coming from an actor, I'm unsure about that. However, I have no doubt it's in the past. It would make more sense to place it in the 60's though, as that was when we still had those cheesy giant monster movies. The original Godzilla vs King Kong took place in that time too.

1971 in Detroit. But that news was back in January 2015. The script could have changed since then.
